Metro East Humane Society's next vaccine and microchip clinic is THIS Saturday, May 18!🐶🐱

The clinic will be held at the Metro East Humane Society Highland location, 510 W Monroe, via drive thru format from 8 AM to noon (or while supplies last). We will require/encourage the following:
💉 Owners and pets must remain in their vehicle unless instructed otherwise
💉 We encourage owners to leave their human kiddos at home
💉 A writing utensil will be required; MEHS will not have pens available for public use
💉This clinic is open to all; no county restrictions
💉Canine and feline distemper vaccines are FREE thanks to !
💉 We will ONLY accept cash or check; two separate payments: one for vaccines and/or microchip and one for county registration

🚨Icy commutes Monday/Tuesday🚨

A concerning icing event is expected Monday into Tuesday Morning. Expect high impacts to travel, likely event cancellations and delays.

While amounts are not too significant, roads and parking lots will be slippery.

-Monday Morning Commute: HIGH impacts possible in the Saint Louis Metro. Freezing drizzle and rain is expected to begin between 5-6AM and continue through 9AM. The metro has high overpasses and these will ice up quickly. We urge residents in the Saint Louis Metro to PLEASE leave early and allow extra time to your destination!

-Monday Lunch Rush: Feeezing drizzle and rain is expected across central and northern IL by this point. Moderate impacts are likely as roads will have slick spots.

-Monday evening Commute: HIGH impacts as a a heavier round of freezing rain pushes in. Expect widespread delays and evening event cancellations. Biggest impacts are gonna be between I-70 and I-80.

Tuesday morning commute: HIGH impacts to travel and school delays/closures possible in central/NE IL. Icing will be ongoing and roads will be icy.

It is happening! A Cat Cafe in our Amazing Alton!

MeowTown will be open, starting December 15th, Wednesday - Sunday!
On the website, under the Reservations Tab, you can reserve your spot to cuddle!
Of course, if you can't quite leave MeowTown without a furry friend, you can always adopt (Metro East Humane Society) & continue the cuddling right at home...

Don't forget to try a cookie or two while you are there! Yum!

November 17 is National Take a Hike Day! Take your human or four-legged friends with you if they enjoy a good ramble. Hiking is good for the soul!

The last two years have had our local shelters at capacity. The outcry for funds, cleaning supplies, pet food, towels and blankets have been at an all time high. Thank your local shelter/rescue. Donate time, money or supplies if you can.

The only painful thing about loving animals is that their lifespans are so much shorter than our own. Rest in peace sweet, goofy Heidi-bear. My sorrow does not compare to that of her owners. I will miss her.

Halloween safety tips from American Veterinary Medicine Association:
1. Keep lit candles, jack-o-lanterns and other Halloween decorations out of reach of your pets. 🎃
2. If you put a costume on your pet, make sure it fits properly and does not cover your pet's ears, eyes, nose or mouth. Make sure there are not any pieces that can cause choking.
3. If your pet is wary of strangers or may bite out of stress, put them in a secure comfortable room during trick-or-treating hours. This is a good idea even if your pet is not wary of strangers.
4. Go outside with your dog even if you have a fenced yard.

Raisins, chocolate and xylitol are toxic to pets. Keep your pets away from the treats. Have a safe and happy spooky season! 🐾🎃

Pet safety tips from the Harrison house:
1. Child safety locks on the cabinets containing cleaning supplies. Our cats open cabinets without child safety measures.
2. Micro-chipping just in case our indoor-cats escape.
3. Secure pets in a comfortable, familiar space during parties to prevent escape through an open door.
4. Plastic protectors for electric cords to prevent pets from getting a shock or electrocuted.
5. Keep all pets up to date on immunizations.
6. Be proactive protecting pets from fleas and ticks.

Share your deaf dog stories and pictures with me. My grandparents had a white hunting dog named Kissy who was deaf so as children we knew not to startle her or touch her uninvited. Kissy was a farm dog along with Max (a large German Shepard). They were often in one another's company. 🐕🐾
