So many of you messaged, called and showed up for us during this time and we’re honored to do life with Amazing folks like all ya’ll!
As of yesterday we are no longer blessed homeless sojourners but excited new farm owners 😍😍🙈

This tool saved our backs today & ya’ll need to know about it! 💪🏻
Have ya’ll heard about wheel hoes before?! Awesome shoulder workout & with interchanging attachments we were able to till, furrow for laying drip tape & mound back up over the tape in no time at all. 🙌🏻
It’s a good thing because there’s soooo many plants that need to get in the ground. .
Mounding potatoes & anything else will now take seconds. I w**ded the entire kitchen garden in about 3 minutes😱✊Talk about a game changer!
Super thankful for the ingenuity in agricultural tools ❤️Go check out our Instagram to see this thing in action!

Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely. ~ 1 Corinthians‬ ‭13:12‬

If you keep an eye on the agricultural news at all you may have known this year was going to be a tough one based off of last year’s crop issues across the nation. And then they shut down major meat productions across America, along with farmers who are now having to turn to alternative means to dispose of their extra produce.

Where is this all leading? How’s our food security? How’s yours?

Great questions, let us pray & trust our Father in Heaven who provides for his people, In famine & drought, He is mighty to serve.
Friends, can we give you some advice if you don’t mind...... Grow to give this year.....Grow as much as you can this year. For yourself, for your neighbors, for as many people as you can reach. And trust Yahweh to provide the increase. Amen.

Multi-sowing 🌱

Charles Dowding has a great list of vegetables he has found idyllic for growing in small groups. Because you know, plants are social creatures 🥰
Anyway here’s a link to that list and some basic instructions to get the most food out of your growing space using multi-sowing 👍🏼👇🏻

Feeling blessed to be able to start healthy plants this year in abundance! And although a geothermal greenhouse is ultimately our goal for food supply. This system is working out well for now.
We expanded our cellar nursery with the addition of racks, heat mats, humidity domes, heavy-duty trays, better grow lights, good soil, fertilizer, a good watering station & a timer.
An investment that is paying off beautifully.
We’ve had four Sabbaths this week as we observe & celebrate Passover, Unleavened, Yahweh & Messiah. Four Sabbaths for me to observe His increase in our lives. How beautiful are His ways 💞

Kale 🌱
Kale can be perennial. And with our mild winter this year, ( lowest temps barely touched the teens this year!) I figured I’d leave the stocks of kale in the ground. Late winter I remembered to throw mulch on them 🤦🏻‍♀️🤪 and turns out they were JUST fine!!!
And so now we’re able to make a light spring salad far before any of the newly seeded kale’s are even close to producing!
Who else loves kale?!

55 degrees in the kitchen garden today, which sits in partial sun to partial shade. We’ve been tracking both the weather and the soil temps this year as we’ve found our regular forecast unreliable. Just last week we had a day that reached 75, when the forecast called for a high of 50. Lesson: don’t just rely on the forecast, track your weather & soil temps to know exactly when to plant what. Only three weeks ago temps in the soil were at 38 degrees Fahrenheit!
Radishes & kale went in two weeks ago, are all up and so close to putting on true leaves. 👍🏼🌱
Started a flat of lettuces mid March that are hardening off in the greenhouse, should be ready to plant in a couple days.
What’s going on in your garden?

“So neither he who plants
nor he who waters is any at all, but Elohim who gives the increase.”
‭‭ 1 Corinthians 3:7‬ ‭
Wherever this finds you, friend. Remember, We’re not in control. No one on this earth is. Thank God for that. Seriously, thankyou Father Yah! 🙌🏻
But there is ONE who IS in control. And one thing we can always rely on is that He will give the growth. Don’t be shy or hesitant to do the good work you were created for. Just Sow. Just Water. And Trust Him to give the increase.

Ok, Let’s talk about a lesser known perennial that would be an excellent addition to YOUR garden (zones 3 & up).
This is the Hardy Kiwi. A prolific fruit about the size of a large grape. Unlike regular kiwis, the hardy kiwi can be consumed as is since the skin is hairless.
In Korea, the young leaves are picked and dried before eating as a vegetable. If the leaves are any kind of tasty like grape leaves, I can believe it!
This plant will become invasive if left unchecked, regular pruning is good practice.
Male & Female plants are required for fruit production. When ordering, having one male plant for every two female is a trusted fruiting ratio.
What sustainable plants are in your garden?

As I tucked out to do chores today, I started getting excited for all the new life that is in store for this barn 🥰
All spring through fall there will be little chicks exploring right beside their mamas. Lambs who are friendly, rather curious and just silly. We so look forward to sharing this slice of life, and hoping to bring some peace & inspiration.
On another note. Is it weird I want to sing to my sheep? And my plants. Not the chickens so much 🤨🤪

So don’t forget to save your seed. Whether it’s in envelopes, jars or baskets..... Let’s think of it this way any seed you have is just super condensed, travel-size FOOD!

Leeks are In🌿
Can I just say....I love this crop. To be sure, every. single. thing. a gardener grows, harvests & eats is a beautiful thing.
Leeks are no exception there. These have been hand picked, and freshly eaten all fall by the whole fam.
Because leeks carry beneficial compounds & loads of nutrients they are used for things like:
•digestion
•promoting weight loss
•reduce inflammation
•fighting heart disease
• combating cancer

And there are studies showing they may:
•lower blood sugar
•protect your brain
•fight infections

And now the temps are about to swing back into alternating freezing temps & thawing temps, which although leeks could really stay in the ground and handle the upcoming weather. That fluctuation really affects the nutrient level of your veg. So we pulled and processed the rest. Into the freezer they went. We’ll spend the upcoming months throwing them in things like soups, stir frys, potato dishes & whatever else.
Does your family like Leeks?

We can’t get enough of all the mushrooms ya’ll! It’s time. We are convinced, we HAVE TO start growing mushrooms! 😍😱🍄🍄🍄
This is a vision our little family had several years ago when contemplating our property. What could we do here with the resources already available to us. Working alongside our natural ecosystems to both sustain our family and provide for the community...... Mushrooms.
I’m so excited to start this next farming journey 🥳 💪🏻
Tell me, what’s your favorite kind of mushroom???

Fall Meat Birds are here 💕
Just a couple weeks indoors while we wait for these babes to feather out and then to the pasture they go.
I love that raising our own meat has now become second nature, with very few surprises any more. We’ll be sharing tips in our stories. Check out “chicken tips story” for playback.
And let us know some of the things you’d like to see as we raise out these birds. Questions, concerns etc. We love helping others get on their way to feeding their family!

Are you out hunting for elderberry? It’s that time.
Harvesting some elderberry, jewel w**d & goldenrod with my co-pilots today.🥰 I love these summer tasks.
Elderberry LOVES water, so if you’re foraging make sure you look along streams, creeks, rivers & ponds. You’ll know they are ready when they get that deep hue & the fruit producing branches snap off easily. My kids love that snap 💕
If you are unsure of what you’ve stumbled across, the “iNaturalist” app & others like it are such a helpful tool when you are in a pinch.
Happy foraging friends!

“I'll tell'y', be a neighbor and you'll have neighbors. Now I've tried that by experience. I do try t'be good t'ever'body, and I try t'treat ever'body just as I'd have them treat me. I don't care th' goodness you do, you'll always get repaid for it. Double. Fourfold. You children remember that. Th' more you do for people, th' more they'll do for you. Always remember, t'have a friend, be one.”

As nice as it would be to call ourselves “self-sufficient”, that’s just not the reality or the intended purpose of this life. We count on each other, help each other and grow together. As nice as it would be to make a quick buck selling our products, I’d rather trade, gift & support the people God has placed in our lives. Because really at the end of the day, you can’t take it with you.
So here’s to enjoying each other, showing love to one another and storing up the things that really matter. 🙌🏻

And how different everyone educates! I’m feeling completely inspired by all of you beautiful ones.

📸: We are loving this “Wildcraft” board game. I highly recommend it as a supplement to any botany/ bush craft / herbal learning study. In fact is having a 20% off flash sale on everything in her shop. She writes beautiful curriculum that this would go wonderfully with. It is helping us remember which plant heals what ailment. Which is right up my alley as my apothecary is a bit overflowing at the moment. Go support another homeschooling mama & don’t forget to tag her to share the love
