Looking after your leather gear doesn’t have to be time-consuming or difficult. We’ve put together some quick tips to care for your Belle leather range. Your leather goods can last for years of riding when you look after them!

1. Wipe down regularly - After every ride, wipe away dirt and sweat with a soft, damp microfibre cloth to prevent build up.

2. Make sure it’s clean first – Use a tack cleaner once a week to give a deeper clean. Belvoir Tack Cleaner is specifically designed to remove grease and dirt quickly and easily, without “over-wetting” the leather or damaging the stitching. Too much liquid may cause swelling of the collagen fibres, which ultimately stretches and weakens the leather. Apply a small amount to a clean cloth and wipe over your tack. When cleaning your bridle remember to undo all the buckles and clean each piece individually.

3. Then condition – Once you have cleaned the leather and allowed to dry, treat it with a conditioner like Belvoir tack conditioner spray to moisturise, protect, and keep it supple. Place a small amount on a clean microfibre cloth and wipe over the leather. Less is more, take care not to over-apply.

4. Allow to dry naturally – After conditioning, allow your leather goods to hang or lay flat in a dry space with ventilation. Always allow to dry naturally, never use artificial heat to dry off as this can crack the leather.

5. Store for protection – Your tack should be stored in a dry room with good ventilation. High temperature will cause protective oils and moisture to be drawn out of the leather and damp environments can cause mould and mildew. Use a cover or breathable bag to protect from dust and dirt.

We had an incredible time over the weekend at Eventing Equestriad Australia! It was a pleasure meeting so many of you in person, hearing your feedback, and learning more about what you’re looking for in your equestrian gear.
