Incubating eggs is a lot of fun! Seeing the eggs develop and then they hatch ❤️ #ninasfluffbutthutt #chicken #chickens #babychicks #babychicks🐣 #incubatingeggs #incubation #incubator #ilovechickens #ilovechicks
My silkie hen layed this soft shelled egg. One of the main reason chickens lay soft shelled eggs is because they are lacking calcium in their diet. We put oyster shells in with the chickens feed to help the hens out. My hen is still laying soft shelled eggs though. She is 5 years old turning 6 this year so I think that’s plays a big part of it.. #ninasfluffbutthutt #softshell #softshellegg #chickens #chickens #eggs #eggsareyummy

We had some old gross potatoes that we decided to plant. We honestly didn’t think they would grow but they started!! We planted them right outside our chicken coop and they will be just far enough away they can’t get them 😆 #ninasfluffbutthutt #urbanfarming #potatoesarethebest #potatoes #growyourownveggies #growyourownfood🌱 #chickens #hungerychickens #lovinglife

Our Red Ranger chicks (broiler birds) we feed them fermented feed. Fermented feed is chicken feed soaked in water for a few days. Less waste, and better on their stomachs to digest. #ninasfluffbutthutt #chicks #chickens #chickensofinstagram #broilers #broilerchickens #growyourownfood #urbanfarming

Fun 🐓 Fact:
Chicken taste good. If you don’t believe me ask a this raccoon.
Last night my daughter said there was a raccoon on our back deck and it looking inside the house.
My son went to lock the chickens up and found this cute looking critter in the chicken coop. I’m pretty sure Mr. Sneaky Boots was bedding down for the night. Don’t worry no chickens were harmed in the vacating of said raccoon.
The raccoon wasn’t scared of us, my husband and I are thinking someone was feeding it because it was pretty friendly. We don’t think it was someone’s pet because it had maggots coming out of its bum.

Fun 🐓 facts:
Our chickens could care less for skunks, or their smell.
Saturday morning while I was feeding I noticed that something was trying to dig into the chicken the night before. I checked out the coop and nothing was in there and all our chickens where alive and happy.
Last night my oldest came running into the house saying there was a skunk (Sir Stinky) in the chicken coop. We decided to leave him there and hopefully he would be gone in the morning.
This morning my husband found Sir Stinky still in the coop. He was digging up a spot to bed down for the winter. I mean I can’t blame him because it was warm and dry inside.
Welp we can’t have a skunk take up residence sooooo now he is gone and our chicken coop smells really bad. I guess we won’t be collecting eggs for a few days. 😅
