Fun guinea fowl facts: Guinea fowl are gamebirds that have became popular among small farms and backyard flocks. Guineas are vigorous bug eating, hardy, and largely disease-free birds. Guinea fowl sounds an alarm whenever anything unusual occurs on the farm.

Tractor Supply in Vinton, VA got a shipment of guinea hens this morning. As much as I want some I’m gonna have to pass so…… maybe next year 🤞🏼

I also have an incubator full of chicken and duck eggs 😅

Fun 🐓 fact:

Pumpkins are nutritious and delicious for your feathered friends. They are high in fiber and the seeds are high in good fats. Pumpkins are high in calcium, niacin, iron, magnesium, potassium and beta-carotene. The beta-carotene also gives your yolks a nice rich orange color. Pumpkins also have vitamins A, B, C and E. With all this nutrition is great for the chickens

A friend of mine did an ”Operation pumpkin drop off” and left me these so wonderful pumpkins for my chickens. I decided to scrap off the top layer of the pumpkin and see what the chickens will do.

The chickens loved the pumpkins and we got a kick out of seeing how they turned out.

Interesting 🐓 Facts:
Domestic bird (in our case: our rooster) s***m can live in a hen 2-15 weeks.

We sold our rooster Big Red last month Nov 18th. So 20 days later we decided to put it to the test. We gathered 15 eggs from our chickens and put them in the incubator on the 7th. Last night when we candled them we could see the beginnings of some chicks developing.

We are hatching out Phoenix, Olive Egger and Maran eggs. So excited to see what hatches in 18 days!

Hello my name is Nina! A name my first niece gave me when she couldn’t produce my name. I grew up raising backyard chickens and bunny rabbits. I always had a love for animals. I would try to put a leash on my rabbits and take them for walks. It didn’t usually end well 😆

In College I met a handsome skinny cowboy wearing stranglers and thought he was the cutest. We hung out and life went on. 2 years later I ran in a mutual friend and he called up my skinny cowboy friend and we started hanging out. We fell in love and got married.

Our first year married we herded sheep on the mountain and west desert. (About 709 ewes and 1300 lambs on the mountain and then 2500 head on the desert.)

After we worked on a cattle ranch for a little. I went back to school and worked. We had a little farm with a garden, hay, cows, sheep, meat goats, dairy goats, chickens and turkeys. We process some of our own meat and love to can what we grow.

We were living the farm life and loving every second of it. Fall came and it all that came crashing down (a story for another day) so we moved 2200 miles away. It was crazy but it ended up being a huge blessing.

14 years since we’ve moved life has given us 8 children. My skinny cowboy is working hard for us and I’m trying to survive, 8 children 😆.

We are not where we want to be farming wise but hope to one day. Now I’m raising Phoenix, Appenzeller Spitzhauben chickens and some laying hens. I sell fertilized eggs, chicks and chickens. This coming summer I am hoping to sell fresh eggs, produce and flowers.

I fiercely love my little family more than anything and will fight for them til my dying day. I love animals, plants and the little things in life that others over look.

Join me on my little adventure with my chickens, plants and whatever life throws my way. ♥️
