Thank you Columbus Animal Advocates for hosting the Carnist Clown action at today’s Doo Dah parade. Onlooker’s reactions varied from positive to negative, to just plain confused. Whatever they thought, we were seen and heard. ✊

Sunday, two Animal Activism Mentorship mentors Amanda and Adam with SWOARN tabled at the Dayton Spring Vegan Market. We had a lot of great conversations with attendees on ways to get active. Tradition and habit are never excuses.

Tyranny and oppression thrive on the unquestioned continuation of the status quo. When people attempt to justify violence by saying “we’ve always done this”, it echoes the mantras of all previous generations who have justified the most barbaric injustices throughout history.

The vegan doesn’t care whether or not something has always been done—they care whether or not something is morally justifiable, regardless of whether the masses agree or not.

A lot of the misunderstanding around what veganism is comes from the belief that it is a diet. This is not true. Veganism is an ethical philosophy centred around treating non-human animals with moral consideration and respect.

Veganism is associated so strongly with food because food is the biggest source of animal suffering, cruelty and death that we partake in - however, it transcends just food.

This is important because too often we remove non-human animals from the conversation entirely, even though veganism is an ethical position that exists for them. It’s amazing that a plant-based diet is great for the environment and for us, but at its core, veganism is about aligning our morals and our actions when it comes to animals.

Yesterday SWOARN activists collaborated with Horseracing Wrongs and stood against horse racing exploitation in Dayton. This was the last day of Dayton Raceway live racing season and we wanted them to know we stand against their greed and exploitation. Horses are on this planet with us, not for us.
