Gorgeous Ivy was one of our teaching patients a few weeks ago - here is a video of her on day 3 of her 'recovery'! Ivy and her owners were thrilled.
We LOVE being able to bring these superb recoveries to your patients by helping introduce laparoscopy confidently and safely to your whole team :) #keyholespay
Here's Becky explaining a little bit about what we do at Simply Keyhole - thanks to KARL STORZ for helping with our filming and creating some lovely videos!
As we are running a ‘testimonial tuesdays’ theme for September, it was lovely to receive a video from one of our Irish practices - here are some screenshots of the highlights.
Visit our Instagram page for the full video!
Here's a video to show how we remove a cryptorchid testicle - two small ports are place to allow us to visualise the testicle, we then grasp it and remove it via the port hole. The alternative is a large open surgery and long recovery period.
Lovely Cooper was back to his normal crazy self within a couple of days of his laparoscopic assisted procedure!

We LOVE this timelapse video put together from our filming with KARL STORZ
Many clinics worry that keyhole spays will take longer than open ones - in fact, the opposite is true. With the right training to get your team confident in the set up, keyhole spays are often quicker than open ones.
Get in touch to find out more about how we can help you start or enhance your laparoscopic service :)

Marley's subtotal pericardectomy video as promised yesterday
Throwback Thursday to gorgeous Harper having a play in the garden the day after her keyhole ovariectomy.
She would have been impossible to rest for the 7-10 days needed for an open spay!
Gorgeous girl....can you guess what breed(s) she is?!
Ah the good old ovary drop...we've all been there!
There are some simple tips to minimise the number of 'ovary drops' you experience, and also some very important rules to ensure that you can find it if you do drop it!
Does anyone have any tips to share?

Lovely timid little Alex came to Becky for a laparoscopic ovarian remnant removal last week. It's so lovely to be able to treat this unfortunate complication minimally invasively. Only a couple of days of rest and she will be back to her (slightly less hormonal) self!

If you're needing a little break from the festivities - what better than a lovely laparoscopy video?!
Here's a couple of clips from Maizie's keyhole ovariectomy - securing, cauterising and cutting of the left ovary. And repeat for the right side.
Most importantly - recover a very happy patient very quickly!

Making sure we are stocked up ready for exhibiting at Vet Dynamics Conference next month!
Beyond excited to get back to the conference and chat all things laparoscopy to independent practice owners 😍
The countdown is on!

It’s all about the teaching opportunities.
Here Becky expertly demonstrates dropping of the ovary…! And how to swiftly retrieve it of course.
With 10 years experience in laparoscopic surgery we have come across all of the problems, and know the ways to prevent or overcome them.
When removing the ovary it is essential to tilt the patient back to midline first - such that if you drop the ovary it falls directly below the port and is easy to find (vs falling into the lateral abdomen and disappearing under the intestines!)
This is just one trick to make keyhole surgery efficient and safe in general practice.

Lovely Brewster the Greyhound was suffering from ongoing weight loss and steadily rising liver enzymes. He had a laparoscopic liver biopsy performed, enabling us to get histopathology without open surgery. He recovered fantastically well and was home within a few hours.
(The special biopsy forceps provide haemostasis by crushing the tissue around the edge of the biopsy site, we always check clotting times before this procedure and hold for 30 seconds before extracting the tissue!).
This is just one of the many additional procedures you can offer your patients when you set up a laparoscopic service - keeping your medics and surgeons happy! :)

Poor Ollie the labradoodle regretted sniffing the freshly cut long grass - after a couple of hours of flushing and three different approaches we were finally able to remove a long barbed blade of grass from his nasal cavity! A combination of retroflexed flexible scopes and our rigid rhinoscope made this possible.
Someone should tell Lady she had surgery 6 hours ago…?! The wonder of keyhole surgery 😍❤️
Laparoscopic simulators are a great way of starting to learn the dexterity and depth perception required for performing keyhole surgery.
All of our practices get a loan of one for a few weeks before our visit, and we find this makes the surgeons much more confident with handling the equipment when we teach on live patients.
There's no substitute for having someone there for your first live spays! We find the combination of simulator training and live teaching is the safest way to learn, and surgeons are far more confident than after going on a cadaver course.
(These simulators are also great for setting up competitions...we all know how competitive our teams can be! A great way to involve the whole practice in setting up a new laparoscopy service.)

'Our Clients' month
"Has laparoscopy benefitted the practice as a whole?"
Undoubtedly yes from every practice who takes it on. From all aspects - happy patients, happy clients, happy team and happy finances! It's a no brainer. If you're still not sure, get in touch to chat through what a laparoscopic service can do for your practice.
(It's nothing to do with the size of the hole you can do a bitch spay through, and it takes no longer than a routine spay with the right set up and training!)

"How did our training compare to a cadaver course to learn keyhole surgery?"

Hoy Lake - one of our first practices almost 5 years ago! Here's Rob explaining how the team found the experience of in house teaching on live patients, with their own equipment and full team involvement.
Many years later Hoy Lake are running a very successful laparoscopic service, and we could not be prouder!

This video shows some examples of instruments used to cauterise and cut tissues in laparoscopic surgery.
There are many options out there! Get in touch if you'd like some impartial advice and help with setting up and training your team in keyhole surgery. Once you pick your equipment, we visit your practice to train the surgeons and whole team for two days of in-house live patient teaching.
