It depends! Let me explain....
Is your dog getting enough exercise.
I'm a certified dog trainer who specializes in fear, anxiety and aggression.
The simple answer is it depends.
If exercising your dogs means they will be experiencing triggers that are far too intense to access exercise... then it's best to reduce or eliminate that exercise.
Yes.. you don't have to walk your dog.
Let's talk generally.. not just dogs with fear and aggression....
In most cases.. dogs are UNDER ENRICHED and not so much under exercised.
Finding interested based activities for your dog is the secret sauce.
What help taking the guessing out of enrichment. Our Treats Community has a FREE membership.

Humour! FYI.. I love communication buttons!
I bow down to those that have the patience and consistency to teach talking buttons.
Here are just some funny things I think my dog is saying and her buttons she would appreciate having (mostly the 'pay me bitch' is something I am sure she would love to have).

The internet has dangerous suggestions.
Stop putting your hand in their food bowl.. and why do we need to take their high value items away?
Storytime: I work with rescues and have done surrender assessments. In these assessments its common a bite to a person has happened. It's my job to figure out what were the reasons for these bites, and ensure this dog is set-up in a home where this can be better managed.
In Resource Guarding cases, it’s the same story. We just put our hands in their food bowl early on to help with that. Often the guardians reported that the dog is fine with them doing this, but reports of bites toward other people were due to resource guarding. More often than not:
The dog is still fearful of the owner touching their resources, and is choosing non injurious stress signals to say stop. However, other people are not given the same liberty (for various reasons).
Dog's who resource guard will show the following body language (and not limited):
1. Ears - pinned, or pointed forward
2. Lips/Mouth - tight and pierced closed, might see dog do a lip lick, or lips curled back to show teeth
3. Tail - tucked under their body, stiff and straight, or up high and rapidly wagging
4. Growling could be present
5. Body - tight and crouched to be smaller, frozen, or big and stiff and pointed/postured forward (see paws and head below)
6. Paws and Head - could be tightly hovering over the item
Did you see one of these in the videos with peanut?
We can do better than these murky internet suggestions.

When I first adopted Peanut I could only afford one training session (thankfully with a competent dog trainer). But there was nothing else that was financially accessible at the time for my dog that was dealing with some complex fear, anxiety and aggression.
I definitely got lost in the desert 🏜 of Google. Making many mistakes along the way. So, I've been making it my mission to learn and get accessible Dog Training Support for folks like yourself.
We can't wait to have you join this amazing hub of dog parents just like you.

It might surprise you… These are some of the top things many who were DIY-ing or have worked with
previous trainers that need further coaching on.
🫦Bites don’t come out of the blue. There are many signs that our dog can deliver that are so subtle before a bite happens. One of the biggest things is NOTICING (perceiving) the scary thing. Learning small ways our dog shows us they have noticed it!
🚫No is not a cue, as in an actionable behaviour our dog can learned. Further to this, setting up a training plan where our dog is getting it wrong more than they are getting it right is inefficient and ineffective.
🏃♀️Avoid all triggers…. It's so much more than just not letting your dog do something, or avoiding scary stuff. But, establishing a starting point to the training plan. Magical things happen when our dog is under
threshold.. and that is NOTICING (hint hint: see the bite point above and #5 below).
🍗MORE TREATS MORE TREATS…. But really becoming more seasoned about the intricate parts of utilizing food.
-- How it's delivered, when it's delivered.
-- The value of the food, the substrate of the food (the first thing I send new clients are tips to improve their bait prep game).
-- Where the food is on your person (or not).
-- Effective and scientifically calculated contingencies of food……. this leads
to #5.
🤓Understanding Learning Principle! More often than not, clients understand how to train a behaviour (Operant Conditioning). But, they have never learned these two principles: Systematic Desensitization
and Counter-Conditioning. This is important for helping support fearful dogs, but you would be surprised that parts of these principles are embedded in Operant Conditioning (the science of trick training) to make it actually work!
These are some things I find myself always helping clients leverage when they sign up for coaching.
Wondering if I can help you. DM me or Comment below some of the things you are stuck on
Bloopers and cute outtakes in Stories.

Thanks to The Academy for Dog Trainers (my alma mater) put together a BITEY DOG FACE CHALLENGE, and we are coming in.. guns blazing. This is the moment Peanut has worked her entire life for. Hopefully we win, and get some SWAG (wink, woof!).
More in our stories today on this topic.. of what peanut and I are doing in this video.
Ps. This has come at a great time to pop my social media hiatus cherry. Get back out there! Along with that… in the projects are two amazing things:
1. A challenge – like the Mindful Dog Challenge – on Breaking your Belief Systems around your dog….. title still in production. STAY TUNED.
2. COMMUNITY Resource Library (thinking along the lines.. CHEESE KREW.. again still in production lol). A platform where you can access all of our amazing training resources and courses, and more accessible training support!
Eager to reconnect with all of you.

Are you treating the Symptom and NOT the Cause?
How can you improve your training with your dog…
Does your dog bark when frustrated? Perhaps they do various other behaviours that we may deem as 'bad' behaviour or dominant or undesirable. Its important to understand the CAUSE and create a Behaviour Modification plan around that… vs the SYMPTOMS we see.
Where do you even start though? Well… Our FREE 12 Day Mindful Dog Challenge (ONLY available this JULY), dives into all of this. We would love to have you join us.

Did you just get a new rescue, and wondering what the fuss is about DECOMPRESSION? Have you been using the 3-3-3 rule, but wondering what does that all mean?
Well, here are some tips regarding what it actually means to decompress with your new rescue.
1. Make their world small. We will get to the point where you can go on those long hikes and adventures. Or have guests over to meet your new dog. But, it’s best to take things slow and steady. For how long? Check out the next point on this…
2. Progress isn’t linear. Finding flexibility each day, and know that it might take longer than those 3 days, or 3 weeks or 3 months for your dog to become comfortable in their new life. Prioritizing your dog’s cognitive wellbeing is the most important thing to focus on. Let’s just say.. adequate exercise is sometimes at the end of the priority list for new rescues.
3. Support them when exploring their new surroundings, meaning Counter-Condition for everything and utilize Systematic Desensitization and Management. What does all that mean???? Well….
We have a great course called: My Fearful Dog – Ultimate Support Guide
This course covers that last component on Decompression. What is counter-conditioning and other learning principles regarding supporting a dog with any type of fear-anixety-aggression. Along with this, the course provides you a workbook on how to create and execute your own training plan.

This is Timbit.. He is Leash Reactive…
This is his continued journey…
Leash Reactivity can be done with exclusively Positive Reinforcement and Force Free Methods…
What does that even mean though? We don’t need to stop behaviour, but rather we can change our dogs response to their trigger through:
-Systematic Desensitization and Counter-Conditioning, or
- Installing a New Alternate Behaviour (I have a strong bias to the latter).
Wanna learn more? Send us an email to [email protected] to get a notification for our next Accountability Class – Reel-In Leash Reactivity in March. Times and dates will be determined based on a quick questionnaire from those you pre-register.
Along with that, if you fill out this form you will get an exclusive access to our FREE Starting Point for Leash Reactivity Webinar.

Not doing important training like Peanuts Baby Prep exercises, but doing fun things instead... Peanut aways kills the assignment. Knowing the years of training already under her belt, I hope she adjusts well. #iunderstoodtheassignment #weworkfortreats #havingfun
That is a floating lobster.. I bought many years ago and it just sat there. But it finally served its purpose today. Goal will be that peanut retrieves this from water by the end of the summer.
