Such a great day of training at Alpha & Omega Working Dogs . Our Advanced scentwork class tried out elevated Hondensportshop hides on Klimb Platforms Blue-9 Pet Products .
These teams worked this like a Scent Wheel. Each team searched for one hot box that was moved to each of the six positions. We also incorporated speed in these drills as well.
Last class we had a discussion about Scent wheels, and how we could replicate the concept in class. Then this video from Tobias Gustavsson shows up in my stream. The Scent Work universe was listening.
Deep thought: No matter what we may think, the initial hide is not in a steady state. A million little things change the odor picture. From the sources plume, weight, and odor degradation, to the time it sits, temp in at the location, humidity change, other odors in the area before the first dog and after each dog team enters and leaves the area, and a million other little subtle things, the odor picture dog team #1 encounters is different than dog team #35.
No matter how good the CO, Judge, Hide Steward, trainer, or helper is the odor picture shifts. All you can hope is that through training competence you've inoculated your team and they can work through the noise to find the odor that pays, no matter its complexion.

Such a great example of an Interior search with multiple hides. Adding barriers like the table to a hide placement forces the dog to work around an obstacle to reach the hide.
As a team this is a great search to finish off the session.
