We LOVE long lines!
They're a perfect way to not only allow your dog more freedom in nature but they also can help you give your dog a break from practicing loose leash walking in safe, open areas. Long lines are also one of the best tools for training coming when called. Can't say enough good stuff about these multi-use tools.

Our favorite style is a 20-30' biothane line with a handle - they stay clean, give the dogs enough space to move around without having to keep track of tons of line, and a handle makes it easy to keep a grip when letting them explore. Off leash explorer? Opt for a handle free design to keep from getting snagged on everything.

Management is a wonderful way of working with our dogs - it just means we're adjusting their environment so they can't make choices we don't like. Leashes, baby gates, muzzles, and more can be great ways to manage the environment and help our dogs succeed.

When visiting friends often dogs can be Too Excited and not know how to take breaks or play appropriately. If left to their own devices this can turn into arguments and even fight!

In the picture below, Naus and Glimmer are on tether spots. They're given breaks to calm down and get their brains plugged between play sessions *and also* before their first play session!

Don't wait to pull out a management strategy After things go wrong. Set your dog up for success by adjusting their environment and removing access to situations that may not go the way we want.

Previously often referred to as "commands," cues are simply how we ask dogs (or any animal!) to do something.

Sometimes we think our dogs know cues better than they do. We might repeat "sit" five times before sighing and shaking the treat bag to get them to follow through.
