This sweet ginger girl is Cheese, and she needs your help. 🥺 Cheese arrived in our care a week ago and went to one of our amazing foster homes. Her foster reported that Cheese was having labored breathing and was not responding to breathing treatments. We decided she should have x-rays done, and that's where we discovered something we hadn't seen before. Cheese has a congenital diaphragmatic hernia, where parts of the abdominal organs, such as the stomach, intestines, or liver, move through a hole in the diaphragm into the chest cavity. Her entire GI tract had moved into her chest, preventing her from breathing properly. 😔 This life-saving surgery was performed through CSU's SAST (Shelter Animals for Student Teaching) program. Dr. Demoya, a surgery resident at CSU, did an incredible job saving Cheese. We are so thankful for CSU SAST program and all the surgical expertise they provide. The bill for Cheese is still not in, but we are anticipating nothing less than $2,500. For today's $5 Friday, will you make a gift towards her medical expenses? Looking for a little Monday morning cheer? Leighanne shares her heartwarming Happy Tail story with her son below! ⬇️🐱

"I lost my cat, Roo, to cancer in 2021 and honestly had no plans to get another cat. But then, I saw a litter of three kittens through Sara A., who does fostering for the Animal Friends Alliance. I went to see Sir Robin the Brave a few days later, fell in love, and decided to adopt him! A few weeks later, I noticed that Ducky was still at Sarah’s home with few people inquiring about adopting her. Being the smallest of the litter and having had some initial health issues when she was first brought to Sarah, I just knew she needed to join our home. I went to see her shortly after and took her home the same day!

These cats have changed my life. They are the two best cats I’ve ever had. Sir Robin and I have a really strong bond, to the point where he sleeps on my desk all day when I work from home, sleeps between my legs or at my side at night, and is generally in the same room with me at all times. Ducky is a strong, independent woman who don’t need no man, and she loves to pretend she’s a shoe. She also loves bouncy balls. Where Sir Robin loves people, Ducky is more reserved, but she’s getting there! They get along great, and they have been such wonderful additions to our family. My son is obsessed with them both. I’m so lucky to have gotten them through Sarah and the Animal Friends Alliance!"

Meet Jiro, a nine-year-old senior pup who made his way to the Alliance through Rescued Pet Movement in need of our help. When Jiro arrived in our care, we quickly noticed something was wrong. His eye was red, swollen, and painful—he had cherry eye, a prolapse of the tear gland in his third eyelid. 😔 This condition wasn’t just uncomfortable—it was causing chronic conjunctivitis, leaving him in constant irritation and at risk for more severe eye issues. Jiro needed surgery to remove the cherry eye, a procedure that can cost up to $500. Thanks to our shelter veterinary team, we were able to get him the care he needed, but we need your help to cover the cost. 🥺 For today's $5 Friday, will you make a gift towards Jiro's care? Right now, our Community Pet Resources team is helping an overwhelmed pet owner who found themselves with more animals than they could manage. 😔 With your support, we've already helped fix four adult cats, and we have more scheduled for care. "Inspired by my daughter, who has fostered hundreds of puppies, I decided to apply to be a foster with Animal Friends Alliance. To my delight, I was accepted, and I eagerly anticipated my first litter of kittens. When the call came, I was thrilled to welcome a litter of five: three orange kittens and two black kittens. I have a soft spot for both, so I was overjoyed to see them.

Caring for these little ones was an absolute joy. I poured my heart into nurturing, socializing, and showering them with love until they were ready for adoption. The day I brought them to my first adoption event was a milestone. It was my first time meeting other volunteers and fosters, and from the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed and embraced by the community. I had found my people.

Meeting the adoptive families and helping them find their perfect friend was an incredibly rewarding experience. With pre-approved adoption applications, I knew that each kitten was going to a loving home. There were a few tears exchanged as I watched each of my kittens meet their new families. The most touching moment was when my two bonded baby boys were adopted together into the same home. It was truly the best day ever!

Since that first litter, I’ve had the privilege of fostering many more kittens, each experience expanding my knowledge and skills. Thanks to the guidance of fellow fosters and the support of shelter staff, I continue to grow in this role. Fostering brings so much joy, after all, there’s nothing quite like having a lap full of purring kittens. I wholeheartedly recommend giving fostering a try; the experience is beyond rewarding."
