📢 URGENT: Help Us Oppose HB25-1137! 📢

Colorado House Bill 25-1137 threatens to reduce funding from shelter veterinary services by making changes to the Colorado Pet Overpopulation Fund (CPOF), which helps shelters like Animal Friends Alliance provide critical care for animals in need. If this bill passes, Animal Friends Alliance will no longer be eligible for funding simply because we are located in Larimer County. The changes don't take into account that many of the animals we help come from more rural Colorado counties.

This bill is moving to the Senate, and we need your voice! Please contact your Senator today and ask them to oppose HB25-1137. You can find your Senator here: https://leg.colorado.gov/FindMyLegislator

Animal Friends, we need your help! 🙀 Our kibble pantry shelves are bare and in desperate need of dry cat food. Josie, our Community Pet Resources Manager, would love it if you could help us restock for our upcoming kibble distribution day. In 2024, our Kibble Supply Pantry provided over 30,000 pounds of cat food to pet owners in need— helping keep dogs and cats in their homes where they are loved and out of shelters! How about an adorable 'Miles-with-Mutts' story from our wonderful volunteer, Kristin, to start your Monday?! 💙 This handsome pup, Rice, loves his field trips to parks and walking trails while he awaits his adoption day. Rice is a three-year-old cattle dog mix with the sweetest personality. "Rice was very ready to get out for an adventure today, so we put on his coat, and off we went! Some whining in the car...but it seems more an expression of excitement! Every once in a while, I felt his paw on my shoulder while driving. Rice pretty much wags non-stop the entire walk. There are so many wonderful sniffs along the way- trees, grasses, snow, rocks, car tires, and bikes. Rice is a snuggly, wonderfully loving adventure seeker, sharing joy with each human he meets. He settled in on the backseat and did so great in the car, we ventured over to the Human Bean. I do believe Rice was the reason I began having a small metal bowl in my car. A tiny plastic cup of treats just isn't suitable for this ebullient pup. Rice is greeted with such love and warmth by volunteers and staff back on campus...for now, he is 'home.'"

This is Winnie, and she needs our help! 😔 She came to the Alliance through Rescued Pets Movement with the hopes of receiving the treatment she needs before adoption. Winnie is heartworm-positive, a preventable disease that can cost up to $1,500 to treat and can take several months to resolve. She also needed an intensive dental procedure due to exposed and painful roots, resulting in her needing eleven teeth removed. 🥺 Winnie will be in our care for quite some time while she recovers. This adorable guy is Taos, and today is his first birthday. 🥹 While most doggos get to celebrate their birthdays with a celebration, a pup-cup, or extra snuggles from their human- Taos is spending his first birthday at our Taft Hill Shelter. For 40 days, this cutie has been waiting, watching adopters walk past his kennel, wondering when it will be his turn. 😔 He's playful, gets along with other dogs, and would make the perfect adventure or hiking buddy. He would do best in a home with another confident, energetic pup to zoomie with. Taos is a rockstar on the leash, loves snuggles, and just wants a human to give him a chance. Murphy is a one-year-old sweetheart who just wants to be loved—but shelter life is taking a toll on her. She has hip dysplasia and needs a bilateral femoral head ostectomy (FHO) to relieve her pain and improve her mobility- a pricey and complicated procedure. 😔 She needs a temporary foster or a foster-to-adopt home before receiving her life-saving surgery, but she must be the only pet as she prefers to be the center of human attention. We will allow her future family to foster her while we provide all her medical care through our shelter, and once she has healed, the adoption will be finalized. Update: We want to extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who supported Murphy. We know so many of you were rooting for her, just as we were. Sadly, Murphy's behaviors worsened over the weekend despite our best efforts. She was struggling in the shelter environment, and after two incidents involving experienced dog handlers, we had to make the incredibly difficult decision to humanely and compassionately euthanize her for safety concerns. This was not a choice we made lightly. Every animal in our care deserves a chance at a happy, healthy life, and we do everything we can to help them succeed. Sometimes, despite our best efforts, the most compassionate choice is also the hardest. We appreciate your kindness and understanding, and we want to assure you that every donation made toward Murphy's care will now go toward helping other dogs and cats find the second chances they deserve.
