Part three of our July crazies.

Shortly after rescuing the 7 kittens from a dealership parking lot we were brought another kitten that is close to the same age. She was found screaming on a lady's porch. No mom in sight for a few hours and temps were rising. The finder took this little one in and contacted us for help. This baby was starving and quite thin. She had a horrible eye infection. The finder didn't know better and gave her milk for the 24 hours she had her, which gave her diarrhea. She looks like she could be from the litter of 7, but it was 40 miles apart. Just look at that little calico attitude!

These are the ones we were saving money for so we can get them spayed and neutered (only 1 boy in the bunch) when Sonny had his emergency visit. We are begging for help to recoup these funds. We've received a donation of $50 so far, and we are very thankful for that. We have a long way to go. Please consider making your donation today at Paypal.me/HaltemansHavenRescue. We can't continue to do this without your help.

Part two of ourJuly recap.

So, I told y'all a while back about the 4 senior kitties that I took in that were being dumped in the desert along with 4 others. We named them Wilford, Hoggle, Ludo and Lily.

Sadly, we lost Ludo. He was the most emaciated. Once we were able to get him fully shaved we could see that he had 0 muscle mass. His tiny body had literally eaten itself away from neglect and starvation. He was in stage 4 renal failure. He was the sweetest of them all and wanted nothing more than for me to hold him. So, that I did until his last breath.

Hoggle and Lily are doing well. Hoggle is the healthiest of them all, but has cataracts so he has limited vision. They are now learning to interact with the other critters. They don't even mind the dogs.

Wilford is the totally blind Kitty with severe diabetes. Once we got him on regular blood testing and insulin he started doing better. We still kept struggling with his blood sugar spikes going up into the high 400's. We took away all dry food and spent hours researching and reading labels of canned foods looking for the highest protein and lowest carbs. Even the prescription diabetic cat food wasn't helping. I heard about this new pet supply store opening in our area called Kahoots Feed and Pet. They only sell all natural premium pet foods. I went to their grand opening and thought I'd see what they had. I looked at their house brand of canned cat food and was amazed at the limited ingredients list and unbelievable nutritional facts. Their tuna and salmon recipe has only 4 ingredients other than vitamins. It has over 18% protein which is unheard of! I figured I'd give it a try for Wilford. It's not even outrageously expensive. It's now been 6 weeks and I can honestly say that Wilford is close to being in remission with his diabetes. I attribute it all to this food. In the last two weeks, the highest his blood sugar has been is in the low 200's he's now gone almost 3 days without needing insulin.

We always need your help to be able to continue helping these lost souls. Running a rescue and having several special needs animals that all have different medical and nutritional requirements is quite expensive. Please help us continue by making your donations to Paypal.me/HaltemansHavenRescue

This has been the busiest month I think I've ever had. There's so much to tell I'll have to do it in more than one post.

The top news story is about our rescue dog, Sonny. Sonny is the American Bully we rescued from the church here in Tonopah a few months ago. On Wednesday night Sonny somehow managed to get his front foot caught on a metal door and ripped half of his main paw pad (metatarsal pad) off! Literally! It doesn't help that Sonny has anxiety. My son went to feed him dinner and found blood everywhere. I took one look and put him in a crate in the van and off we went to the ER vet. I was there with him until almost 1am when they prepped him for emergency surgery. The doc said that approx 40% of his pad was detached. They were able to save the pad, thankfully, and he has internal and external stitches. His leg is heavily bandaged. He gets to live the next couple of weeks with a cone of shame and in a large wire cage so his paw can heal. I'm changing dressings every other day. He is on 4 prescriptions for pain, anxiety, inflammation and an antibiotic.

This unexpected turn of events completely depleted all of the funds we had been saving for spays and neuters. We had just had Sonny and Dash (one of the Husky/shepherd pups) neutered the week before and have appointments scheduled for the kittens next month. We really need your help to replenish these funds so we can prepare kittens for their new homes. Please, if you can spare just $5 it all adds up. You can help us by donating at Paypal.me/HaltemansHavenRescue

Well, here we go again. Avondale Arizona, 117° and a call about tiny kittens under a new truck at the dealership. They were trying to stay in the shade because the blacktop was scorching. Mom must've been scared away by people. I was told 3 kittens abs when I get out there we have 7!!! Six females and one tiny male. They are so little, but my best guess is that they are @5 weeks old. Yaaaay, not bottle babies! The bad part is, with temps like these I can't try to tap mom because I don't have access to the lot during the night. That's the only time she'll come out, and even at night it's 90°+ so she can't stay in a trap for several hours.

If you're able to help with kitten food and vaccines, that would be amazing. Donations can be made to www.Paypal.me/HaltemansHavenRescue

I finally got around to shaving Ludo, one of the seniors that we rescued from being tossed outside, the rest of the way. Initially I had only cut the worst mats out to stop then from pulling his skin and so that we could wash the urine and f***s out of his fur. It looks like a hack job because I had a hard time using the trimmers around his protruding bones. Just look at this little guy. I can't even imagine the neglect he and the others have endured. Ludo has gained nearly 2 pounds since I took him in and the last pic is AFTER the weight gain. I'll weigh them again this weekend. Through all of this he has been the sweetest, most affectionate little dude. Right now we're working on physical therapy to help build muscle mass along with super high protein foods.

We still need to get them all in for blood work. We've been working to stabilize them and get healthy food in their bellies, and most of all make them realize that they matter. All 4 will need senior panels that average @ $200 each. A mere $5 donation truly adds up to help pay for their ongoing medical costs. You can donate at Paypal.me/HaltemansHavenRescue

I thought it was about time tonight to give you guys an update on the senior kitties that were being thrown outside. They have been with us for two weeks now. They are doing so much better already. We're still just trying to give them nutritious food and some high calorie supplements so that they can put some weight on.

So far, the guy in the first picture, has gone from 6.8 lb to 7.5 lb. He is the one that is completely blind and diabetic. We're trying to get his blood sugar under control with twice daily insulin injections. He's going to be the toughest one to get some weight put on because we have to get his blood sugar stabilized first. We have named him Wilford. He is just one grumpy old man. Although, he will cave to ear scratches.

The handsome guy in the second picture, has gone from 7.7 lb to 9.0 lb! He is our overachiever. He is the healthiest of all of them and wasn't near as thin as the other three when they came to us. We would love suggestions for names for this handsome dude.

In the third picture, this little guy had a very rough go of it as well. He was solid mats and just absolute skin and bones like Wilford. He is doing so much better, and he is just the happiest little guy. He doesn't meow, he whispers. He has gone from 5.0 lb to 7.0 lb! This guy is partially blind, he has cataracts. He can see just not so well. We would love name suggestions for him also.

And last but certainly not least, the beautiful little lady in the fourth picture whom we've named Lily, has gone from 5.1 lb to an even 6 lb. She's just a tiny little thing.

They will be starting an antibiotic, clindamycin, tomorrow to try to get their teeth infections under control. Once we get the infection down we can make a determination if they will do okay with just a dental cleaning or if they are going to need teeth pulled.

We are still trying to raise funds to get full blood work ups done on these babies so we can see what all we're dealing with. We will also need ongoing medications for Wilford with his diabetes meds and test strips We're looking at about $200 to $250 each to get a full blood panel done. If you can spare a few dollars, it would be very much appreciated and help these guys get on track to becoming healthier. You can click on the link on our post from cuddly.com that I made the other day and donate there or you can donate directly to our PayPal at Paypal.me/HaltemansHavenRescue

Happy Memorial Day to everyone as we honor our lost soldiers. How are you all spending your Memorial Day? I am spending it sitting in a bathroom with hot water running to steam a sick little kitten who's so stuffy he can't breathe. This is sweet little Vader. He's on antibiotics and prescription eye ointment, and he just having a rough time. Vgghfhbhfhghb. Well that was his thoughts on the situation, Mol.

With all of the craziness going on with the nearly abandoned senior kitties and trending to their medical needs, I forgot to say thank you to Community Paws and Chewy for the huge donation of food and litter last weekend. This came at a perfect time when we were nearing the end of our supply. These pics don't even include the litter which was an estimated 500-600 pounds of various boxes and bags!! We are so very grateful!

These 4 horribly neglected senior kitties, along with 4 others that another rescue took in, were being thrown outside when their human died. We could not let them die in the 100° Arizona temps. They deserve so much better and we are going to make sure they get it all and then some!

We had a very productive day today. With a very generous donation last month from my dear friend Nellie, we were able to get five cats in to be spayed today and stock up on some much-needed supplies. Big shout out to the team at Dr. Kelly's Surgical Unit for always taking such good care of our fur babies. We are back home and just waiting until the purple elephants go away.

Our next contestant on The Rescue is Right is 2 week old Meatball. Meatball was found in a known dumping spot in our little town of Tonopah, along with two siblings that weren't so lucky. Meatball is being treated for an upper respiratory infection and the vet thinks he's a black Shepherd. He's struggling with eating because he's so congested and eats too fast then spits half of it up. So my dear friend, Dona, who is also his finder, is fostering him and feeding him just a couple ounces every couple of hours. This sweet little guy fell asleep while eating as I was holding him today.

As always, it's your donations that allow us to help these sweet babies. Even if youcan only spare $5 it all adds up. You can donate to PayPal.me/HaltemansHavenRescue

Meet the latest edition to our vagabond crew. This big sweet guy found his way to the Sun Spiritualist Church -SSCA encampment near me. He hung out there for several days and was spoiled by the ladies as he hung out in the library. I'm calling him Sonny in honor of the great job they did taking care of this boy. He appears to be about a year to year and a half old, and he is an American Bully, so he's the smaller version of the Pitbull breeds. He is super lovable and even knows his basic commands. He will soon be going in for neuter and is looking for his furever family. When did we become a dog rescue??🤣

Boy, what a crazy week this has been. On Sunday, I get an urgent message from our local dog rescue, who's a good friend of mine, that there were a bunch of abandoned puppies and she was at work and couldn't get to them. So, of course, I agreed to go pick them up and hang on to them until she can get them from me and into foster care. As I'm on my way to go get them I hear about two husky puppies that are near the highway off ramp. So I take the long way go look for the Husky puppies and they are nowhere to be seen. I go to the other place with the abandoned litter of puppies, which are about 4 weeks old, and load up eight puppies into the carrier in the back of my van. I get them all settled at my house and figure I better go to the General Store and pick up some canned puppy food and while I'm on the way to the general store lo and behold there's the Husky puppies all hunkered down on the side of the road under a tree. They were about 2 mi from where they were reported having been seen off the highway. These two are about 6 months old, one male one female, and the male is limping. Fortunately he's okay, and didn't require an emergency vet trip.

Then, on Monday, while at work somebody from the service department runs into my office and said there's kitten stuck up under a car. Here we go again. A cat stuck inside a car is what put me in the hospital for a week in January, but if any of you know me you know that I can't let them be, so I'm out trying to help pull a kitten out from the skid plate under an SUV. All to find out that there's not one kitten but three of them, and they are all about 2 weeks old! Oh great, bottle babies. Thankfully, my dear friend Jen, was willing and able to bottle feed three kittens in addition to helping out with the litter of eight puppies!! She is such a rockstar. Fosters are so hard to find.

We are forever in need of help with donations! We can't do this alone. Please help us be able to save more pets in need. Monetary donations can be made to www.Paypal.me/haltemanshavenrescue or if you would like the link to our Amazon wish list just let me know and I would be happy to send that to you. THIS RIGHT HERE IS WHY YOU DON'T GIVE AWAY PETS FOR FREE. Seriously, we say it over and over and I guess people don't really believe it will happen like this. This is real! People are evil. Free pets are at risk of being snake food 😿
