Massive thank you to Shellie from Cocker Spaniel Grooming North Brisbane. Today she groomed both my girls to perfection. This is Skyla she is nearly 6 and has a very thick neutered coat. She is normally groomed every 4 weeks but due to a health issue this groom was 8 weeks since the last. It takes a lot of work to keep the coat in good condition and it is very important to have a good relationship with your groomer, I can’t thank Shellie enough for her guidance when it comes to grooming and product advice.

COPIED FROM ANOTHER PAGE

Thank you responsible breeders.

There sadly isn't much of a voice for responsible breeders. They often get grouped into the category of backyard breeders or puppy mills, but they are so much more than that. Thank you responsible breeders. Thank you for not being part of the problem, but actually being part of the solution. I can guarantee you that if every breeder followed the guidelines of responsible breeders, "overpopulation" would not be a concern.

It pains me to have clients who come in and are so stressed and concerned about their dogs having one hair out of place. They worry we will judge them because they show and breed dogs and in the past they have been harrassed by the public. I usually just laugh and ensure them that a little dirt means they are loved and having a good time outside. Trust me, I have an English Setter and keeping him show quality groomed everyday would be torture to me and him. They are expected to always be perfect in the eye of the public, because if not a snood comment is likely to be made about their purebred dog. I, and even the clinic I work at, have been harrassed twice this week for supporting responsible breeders. I can't imagine the harrassment some breeders face, I know a few that try to keep the fact that they breed hidden from the public because they are scared of what the public will think.

Don't get me wrong, I love a good mixed breed dog. I work with tons of them everyday and care for each and every one of them the same. Each day I come home and worry about every mixed breed dog I treated that day the same as every purebred dog. I support shelters everyday at work and there are many situations where a rescue dog may be the best fit for you family.

However, there is nothing quite like a dog from a responsible breeder. That dog comes to you from a loving breeder who invested so much time, emotion, funds and research into each puppy that it would shock you. They spend their lives conserving a breed and making it better. That breeder can tell you everything about their personalities, what their traits and quirks will be, and what they were purposefully bred to do. They care about the placement of each puppy, often placing them into the homes themselves based on purpose and personality of each puppy, rather than letting the new owners pick out which one looked cutest online. These puppies go into homes fully vaccinated, with all required health clearances needed. They go into homes already house trained and crate trained to ensure easy transition for the new homes. These responsible breeders keep track of the puppies until they grow old and pass. They want to know about each and every health concern that they have throughout life so that they may alter their breeding program to avoid health concerns in the future. These breeders even make you sign a contract saying that if you can't keep the dog, no matter the age, you will return it to them so that the dog does not end up in a shelter. The list goes on and on.

The next time you meet a RESPONSIBLE breeder, thank them, ask them about their breed, and buy them a drink (trust me they need it 😉).

When your told a registered pedigree puppy from a Dogs Aust, ( which ever state you live in affiliate, ie Dogs SA,WA, VIC, NSW, Qld, TAS) registered breeder, is too expensive, have a read

POTENTIAL OWNER: How much is the puppy?

BREEDER: $3,500

POTENTIAL OWNER: What?? It's way too expensive!!

BREEDER: What do you think would be a good price?

POTENTIAL OWNER: No more than $500. You breeders are so over priced.

BREEDER: I am sorry you see it this way, why don't you try it yourself?

POTENTIAL OWNER: But I've never done it!

BREEDER: For FREE I can teach you how to do it, and in addition you will have the knowledge to do it again.

POTENTIAL OWNER: Perfect, thank you!

BREEDER: To start you will need a female(average cost $4000 and up). Also a male(average cost $4000 and up) or semen (average $3000 and up). You will need to show them to their championship to show they meet the breed standard(Minimal $2000 with travel & fees). You will need to do genetic & health testing on them, averages about $750 per dog. Raise and provide daily care, feeding & grooming for 2 years. (So minimal $150 per month)

POTENTIAL OWNER: But I don't have that much money...

BREEDER: You can raise a litter and then keep one of the puppies. Obviously, you will pay the cost of whelping & care. Vaccinations, microchips, DNA testing, ect.

POTENTIAL OWNER: I can do that.

BREEDER: OK so I have a female due to whelp in 2 weeks. You will need to be available 24/7 around the clock for at least 8 weeks to help with delivery and care.

POTENTIAL OWNER: Eight weeks?? it's way too much time for me! I have to work.

BREEDER: You will also need the reproductive vet to do xrays($200-$500), possibly progesterone testing($75-$250) & C-section($1800-$6000) and initial vet care on pups until old enough to be placed.

Have on hand a scale, thermometer, latex gloves, sanitizer, absorbent tissues, scissors, hemostats, heating pad, whelping box, blankets, cleaning supplies, appropriate food with supplements for mothers, formula, medications & hand feeding supplies in case of emergency....

POTENTIAL OWNER: But I don't have all these things!

BREEDER: For $1000 you can buy them.

POTENTIAL OWNER: Ummm .... You know, I think it might be better if I just buy a puppy.

BREEDER: Wise decision.

For us breeders there are no vacations or holidays, while you go to visit with family & friends we are home at our dogs side caring for them. It is a no breaks commitment.

THIS IS THE REALITY
When you choose a professional you don't only pay for the puppy but also:
Tools, knowledge, experience, love, time, sacrifices, etc.

Thank you to everyone whom enquired about Marshall. He has found an amazing home.

Shelpin Cocker Spaniel's

Marshall is an 8 month old Blue Roan male. He is up to date with vaccinations and worming. He is fantastic in the car, onlead and being groomed. He has been well socialised and would love to find a family where he can be cuddled, sleep indoors and have a family to play with. He loves to play, run and go on adventures. He is a happy boy with a loving temperament.
For more information please do not hesitate to contact me.

Home 🏡

And boy are we so glad to be back in sunny 🌞 QLD.

We headed down to Condobolin for 3 weeks of showing. Yep a once in a life time experience. Would l do it again. Hmm nope.

Took a team of 3 and the kids did great. Helana Galpin took a team of two plus her Ridgebacks and they also did amazing. Super Proud of all their achievements.

My huge highlight of the trip was handling Sergej
Supreme CH Royal Friend ECS Wish Granted (Imp Hun) to a BOB. Thank you Amanda Bray I'll remember that for my lifetime. Spending time with Amanda and Tiffany Crossett and Daughter Tempie's company. Thank you for all your support, and our long arse driving

Can't remember what did what Under which judges, but here are all their pretty ribbons. We came home with RUBIG, BOB's, Classes in Show/s, Neuter In Show/s, classes in Group's ect.

Thank you Black Hawk for your sponsorship, also Pets247, IGA vouchers, Woof Den vouchers, towels. The vouchers certainly came in handy.

Best sign ever was "Welcome To Queensland "

Shelpin Cocker Spaniel's has a young 5 month Blue Roan Female puppy available.

Sasha would love to find her new family, she is absolutely adorable with a very pretty head, cracking little personality. Sasha has been lightly shown and did well. She is great in the car, has been well socialised and is fully vaccinated. Sasha is up to date with all her worming, she loves to play, is great on the lead and has had a few puppy grooms. She is to young atm to be stripped out, but if you bring her back, I'll groom her for you. She's a very clever little girl and picks things up quickly
Sasha will come with a puppy pack, free Royal canin food, some toys, and more. Sasha is also doing well with toilet trailing, but you may need to start again with going to a new environment and learning her cues.

If you would like some more information on Sasha and would like to meet her, welcome to message me.

Sasha's is clear by parentage fie all genetic diseases through Orivet Genetic Pet Care
