••• A change in work schedule this year has meant no more doggie daycare on Fridays. Since he was a puppy, he’s had a social life busier than me, walking with doggie friends or doggie daycare visits. Fridays are now a day for some R&R and he seems pretty happy about it 😴 •••

I wish I’d known about Don years ago. So many times, we’ve made mistakes in searching for lost dogs, unknowingly making the situation worse. The case of Koda, lost at Riverhead Forest will probably forever haunt me. Especially as I was one of those that tried to aid in the ‘search’ but probably did nothing but push Koda further away. Dons had countless successes with his methods. Please share his page if you ever see a dog owner in distress so they can get the right advice and hopefully a happy outcome 💔

••• New Plymouth friends - one of the tracks at Barrett is currently blocked. Shown roughly by the purple mark, bottom of the map to the left. It’s passable if you’re willing to do a bit of climb up/down through the bush beside it. I’ve reported it to council so hopefully it will be cleared soon •••

••• We’ve reached 12 years 🥳 Every birthday we mark now will get harder. With a toy box full of toys and a treat container full of treats. I decided this birthday, the best thing I can give him as a present, is being present. No phones, no distractions, just quality time together ❤️ I had hoped we might be able to have a beach date when I finish work but the weather isn’t looking favourable for us 😕 He’s been out with his friends from this morning, and on a car ride with me for his favourite treat from , so now we just hope the weather plays ball and we can end his birthday with a beach date 🤞🤞🤞 Happy Birthday Georgie Pie 😘 •••

••• I was cleaning out old messages the other day and came across a few from Krista, the owner of George’s first doggie daycare experience and he LOVED it, until one day he just didn’t. We were both a bit stumped as to why 🤷‍♀️ So I sent him somewhere else…to a rural small outfit who ended up in the press for a dog dying under their care 😩 Krista took George back to Barkley in a heartbeat until I could find another solution. When I moved to New Plymouth, I was worried that George wouldn’t like daycare here since I still wasn’t sure what had caused the dislike in Auckland, but after 5+ years of .hounds.hangout I think it’s safe to say he’s pretty damn happy there 🥰 As his little bottom trots excitedly down the hallway to the front door each doggie daycare morning, I’m so thankful he’s found his home away from home ❤️ •••

With George getting older, I am selfishly always looking at ways to keep him happy and healthy so that goodbye is delayed as long as possible. Recently I had noticed a difference on our walks where his back legs would tremble when he stopped to sniff. In every other way he seemed fine, no change to....

Pleased to report our website is working again, phew!

I’ve also had something I’ve been working on that is also now live 👀 A list of dog friendly businesses to enjoy a coffee at or a comfy pillow. ••• I changed jobs late last year, to one that allowed me to work from home. So while George is out enjoying doggie daycare, im in the office and when he’s home, im home ❤️ Its a sad reality and one I try not to think of often, but he’s getting older and won’t be around forever. Getting to spend these extra hours with him snuggled beside me is the perfect work/life balance 🥺 •••
