Phew, its taken a while to transfer all the info off the website onto the Google drive but I am done! You'll find the Google drive link in our pinned posts so you won't have to search for it each time. I'll also be sure to link it when I post new walk info. Speaking of which, its been a busy few weeks that I still haven't written up about our recent round trip to Ruapehu for Georgies birthday. That will make it to the Google drive shortly, so keep an eye out for that update.

••• Hi Friends, I have some news…George is fine before you worry! But we’re making some changes here at CuriousGeorge. I am having to shut down the website 😢 For years this has been a hobby for me with no financial gain and unfortunately with a price hike of an extra $100USD coming next month by my website provider, I have had to make some hard decisions. Spending nearly $1000 a year on a website for a hobby just isn’t sustainable for me anymore and looking around at what else I could do wasn’t much cheaper. I’m in the process of transferring everything to a Google drive where I can provide you access to all our walk info. The FB page and Instagram will continue so I’ll be able to let you know when new walks are uploaded and of course still share cute photos of Georgie Pie. I’ll keep you updated when things move, but for now this is a heads up that it’s happening in the coming weeks •••

••• I’m looking at doing a day trip for Georgie’s birthday next month. Due to numerous roadworks, I’m likely going south. I’ve already got a few walks marked in this area, but if anyone knows of any hidden gems around Ohakune or nearby, can you let me know! 🐶 •••

••• Spring = Itchies! Many years ago, I had George allergy tested. It came up with everything you could imagine (me, the cat, grass, trees!) so for many years he was on immunotherapy injections. When we moved to NP, I slowly weaned him off them as we no longer had the specialist vet access I had in Auckland. Since then, I’ve been able to manage his itches in the peak seasons, with the following;
👉 Weekly baths with an oatmeal shampoo
👉 Apoquel tablets (for short term relief)
👉 Cytopoint injection (every 3 months or so)

The vet recommended Cytopoint last year, and I no longer need the Apoquel. I used to use Apoquel in smaller dozes than the vet recommended, but also only gave it for 2-5 days, it just used to help break the habit of the itch and reset his brain. Sometimes I think the obsession was worse than the actual itch. With the Cytopoint he now gets instant relief and I get it each time I notice his itching starts to increase, which is typically every few months and only through Spring/Summer. It’s $$$ but worth it if you’re struggling to relieve the itches.

Ditchtheitch.co.nz is a great resource for reading about options for an itchy dog •••

Exploring New Zealand - one adventure at a time

New Zealand is one big natural playground. Unfortunately large portions of it aren't very dog friendly. It's likely that you've found us because you've been searching for places you can enjoy with your dog, just like I have been.

It's not all bad news. George and I have managed to find some really great places to visit and some pet friendly accomodation options too.

Up until recently we were based in Auckland so you will see a large proportion of the walks are based here and in the surrounding areas. We are now based in New Plymouth so will be doing more adventures around the lower north island and hopefully soon, the south island!

I also tend to focus on walks that allow George to be a adventurous, exploring sights and smells off lead, its always best to check with local councils if dogs are restricted as these rules can change.
