You may have noticed that we have been less active than usual, Josh has been busy with his Air Force career and hasn’t had much time to train. This will continue as Josh will be out of the country until this fall supporting Air Force requirements, we look forward to him getting back and starting to train more with local law enforcement agencies in Missouri and surrounding states when he returns. If you need anything Josh will still be available via Facebook messenger or text.

We were asked to teach a basic decoy seminar to some agencies in Clinton this weekend. It was great to spend the day with handlers who are motivated to better their dogs. In order to improve their skills, they rely on assistance from other officers. It takes a special person to volunteer to wear a sleeve or bite suit and willingly get bit. A great decoy can make the world of difference in training, which translates to
success in real-world interactions. It can be intimidating the first time you take a bite from a patrol dog, but everyone did great, and hopefully they left the seminar with a little more knowledge and confidence.

Doing some muzzle familiarization with Hutch. He has a vet appointment this month and it is important to make sure working dogs are comfortable in a muzzle to make the appointment easier on the veterinarian staff. This keeps them from getting injured by the muzzle while they are doing their checks. Just putting a muzzle on for a few minutes each day will make a world of difference to get dogs comfortable while wearing them.

Glad to see this team putting in the hard work and making a difference in their community. Great job Cpl Brandt and K9 Elinor.

K-9 Elinor had a busy weekend. On Friday, July 29th MSHP requested to sniff a vehicle they had stopped in the 400 block of NW K, positive alert/ Trooper located suspected narcotics, m**h, fentynal, several xanax pills and other miscellaneous pills, charged with distribution.

On Saturday the 30th Deputies Baker and Weber along with Cpl. Brandt responded to a burglary in progress in the 900 block of NE E Hwy. Two subjects were taken into custody, the third was hiding in thick brush. Deployed K9 Elinor for an area search for the hiding subject. K9 Elinor scent located the subject and took us to him where he surrendered without incident. After locating the subject, K9 Elinor was used to free air sniff the vehicle for narcotics and gave a positive alert. During the vehicle search a substance believed to be m**h was located along with a pipe commonly used to smoke m**h.

Good job K-9 Elinor in assisting our staff and the Highway Patrol with getting drugs and criminals off our streets.

We have officially moved our family and business to Troy Missouri! The Air Force decided it was time for us to leave Whiteman and we were lucky enough to get orders to Scott Air Force Base. We decided to move where Melissa and I grew up and hope to continue growing our business here. Special thanks to all who helped us with our business in Clinton and to the law enforcement agencies that allowed us to be part of their programs. We are looking forward to building relationships with the agencies in our new hometown and assist any way we can.

Big shout out to Corporal Brandt and K9 Elinor. These two passed their DrugBeat detection certification a bit ago but we get so focused on training I forgot to take a picture and give them a shoutout. This team has worked so hard to get to where they are and I am always impressed with the work they put in. We are making great progress in Elinor’s patrol work and she should be ready to crush that patrol certification soon!

Congrats to these 3 handlers from Texas! Officer Dubetsky/K9 Denzel, Officer Patterson/K9 Vetta and Officer McGee/K9 Turbo all passed their DrugBeat detection and patrol certifications. It was worth the drive to Texas to get to watch these professionals work their dogs and show off their skills. As always I am humbled to get to work with law enforcement officers that are dedicated to their craft and serving their communities.

Doing a quick session to get Hutch familiarized with his muzzle. Using peanut butter inside the muzzle to create a positive association with this often unpleasant equipment will help when we need him to wear a muzzle in the future for vet visits or when we move to an aggression muzzle.

Tried some door pops with Bronco the other day. The goal is for him to find his handler who is taking cover behind his patrol car before engaging on a running decoy. Proud of the work this team has put in, when they first started Bonco would barely let his handler get him out of his kennel, hard work pays off!

We would like to introduce Hutch. He is going to be our new training partner, even at 4 months old it is important to start building the dog you want. We have started with some basic obedience and flirt pole training to develop his skills and drive. He has big paws to fill since we lost Tomi but we are looking forward to see him grow and develop.

Days like today are the worst thing about working with dogs. It is difficult to find the words to express how you feel when you lose such a good friend and business partner. It may seem strange to call a dog a business partner but that is exactly what Tomi was to me. He was with me when we started this business and helped so many others because he was so well tempered and easy going. He was always willing to let someone else take his leash and walk them through giving a working dog commands. He was obedient, fair, loving and friendly and I am going to miss him so much.

Proud of these two dog teams. Anyone who has ever worked a dog understands the sacrifice and time it takes to become certified and these guys killed it! I look forward to the difference both of these dogs will make in the community.
