Humble Beginnings

Dapper In The City is so much more than a part-time job. As a senior at Butler University, I decided to put my education to the test and open my first self-owned small business. Dapper was born in the summer before my senior year began.

As any dog mom is sure to agree, I wanted to spend my summer spending as much time with my sweet boy, Fitzgerald. Fitz was just over one year old and loved doing just about anything that followed the words “Let’s go!”. As our adventures started, I began snapping photos of him at his favorite places. Whether we were taking a walk to the “river” (a glorified steam near our house where Fitz could be off leash and go swimming) or stopping by Bric’s Ice Cream off the Monon Trail, I constantly found myself pointing my camera at him.

After my phone camera roll was stocked to the brim with photos, my girlfriend and I decided to start an Instagram account for our precious golden retriever (we’re basic, I know). Before long, I stumbled across several Etsy shops selling pet bandanas. Let’s just say Lauren was less than thrilled when she opened the mailbox one week to find a different bandana each day. After gushing over how cute Fitz looked in his bandanas, I started to notice that each one I had purchased seemed slightly girly. Not that we have anything against that, but when your boy gets mistaken for a girl dog twice a week, you start thinking about how to make him seem more rugged. I started looking for boy themed bandanas, but couldn’t find any I absolutely loved. Then, Dapper In The City was born.

Dapper has given me so mcuh joy over these past few months. From seeing happy customers post photos and leave countless reviews to developing new products you guys have brought me endless smiles. Thank you so much for supporting my small shop!
