The sanctuary is in need of a ladder like the one in the picture. No need to be in excellent condition, but the rungs should be intact and sturdy enough to hold weight. It needs to be at least 10 feet tall. It doesn't have to be wood, fiberglass or aluminum would work, but wood is better. Maybe someone has one hanging in their garage that they would like to sell or donate?

Fawn calls are starting to come in so I wanted to touch on some information and guidance.

Mother deer leave their babies for hours, sometimes an entire day, anywhere she feels it's safe to do so.

How do you know when it's necessary to intervene? Let's talk about steps to take to determine that.

Step 1: Remove children and pets from the area, mother deer can sometimes be very territorial if they see you by their baby. The last thing we want to see is someone or their pet get hurt.

Step 2: Check if the baby has any visible injuries or if they are being swarmed by flies. If yes: Contact a Rehabilitator.
If no: Continue to the next step.

-Step 3: Observe if the baby is laying quietly yet alert like the baby in this picture. If it is, it's likely mom is still around and the baby is doing exactly what it's supposed to do and waiting silently for mom to return. If it quietly walks around from time to time but remains in the general area, it's just being a curious baby but mom is still likely around. If it is calling out for mom while restless, contact a rehabilitator to see if they feel intervention is necessary.

Step 4: Do NOT move baby, handle baby, or try to feed baby. Simply watch from inside, be honored mama felt your property was a safe place to leave her baby for the day, and don't let her down by kid napping her child.

Step 5: If you are at all unsure whether or not intervention is needed, just give a Rehabilitator a call (: We are happy to help guide you.

A list of Michigans Wildlife Rehabilitators will be listed in the comments.

This little one in the picture was found in somebody's yard today and they reached out to me. I do not do Fawn rehabilitation however I can give some guidance. They followed my advice and sure enough, within just a few hours they spotted mama coming to check on her baby ❤️

If you want to support an animal fawn rehab, learn about fawns or see cute pictures of them- check out Short's Fawn Rescue they're lovely!!

Penny lived here at Evergreen. She is a very shy girl. But once she knows you, she loves you. Please help Penny find her forever home.

Penny you sure are one very pretty young lady. What?! Getting a pet from a breeder? You know that adopting from a shelter is just common "cents"! I'm Penny, a 2-1/2-year-old female who came to Paws and Claws from another rescue. I like being petted, and once I feel comfortable with a person, I enjoy sitting on their lap. I'm not too scared to play, and I love watching the birds. Please feed me paté-style canned food only, because I have no teeth. My favorite food is Sheba paté -- chicken, turkey, or beef are fine, but not the seafood flavor. When you adopt me to be your lovable girl, I know I will be worth every Penny!

Flower power! Hello, my name is Petunia, I'm a pretty, brown tabby girl who came to Paws and Claws from another rescue. I'm estimated to be a tad over 4 years old. While I may be rather nervous in new situations, I am lovable and become much friendlier once I feel comfortable. I like being petted and don't mind being held. May I say - the windows! Oh, the windows! I love to watch the birds! I now share a window bed with some of the shyer cats in my room. With a slow introduction, I may do well with another mellow cat in my home. I hope that soon I'll have "some-buddy" to love. Make my "daisy." Choose me to be your lovely Petu

Easter would have been 19 years old today. Sadly, I had to say goodbye to him two weeks ago. He and his mother Stripey were the beginning of the sanctuary and all the cats here. Easter was an indoor/outdoor cat for many years. After all the worrying and wondering when or if he would come home, I vowed to never have another indoor/outdoor cat again. So many times I stated “I wish I didn’t love him so much “. Rest in peace Big Kitten.

Sandie is a 5 yo gal who weighs about #45 and sports a beautiful golden coat. She has been through a few homes in those 5 years and is looking for some permanence. Sandie would do best as an only dog and in a home without cats. She loves her people and wants them to herself. Sandie knows basic commands and is house trained. She is truly sweet, loves attention, and is past that puppy stage. She has been here over three months with little interest.
Sandie’s adoption fee has been sponsored for a qualified adopter.
She isn’t free. You must pay with the promise of a life of proper care and love. If you can’t adopt, please share.

La Crescent Animal Rescue is pleased to announce that an agreement has been reached with the City of La Crescent to continue use of our current location at 523 N. Chestnut Street. 🥳

Furthermore, we are now able to build programs to start serving the other cities, townships, and municipalities within Houston County. These programs still need to be developed and we need to expand our volunteer base before we can truly expand our outreach. If you can help by volunteering at the shelter, assisting with fundraising, or connecting with other Houston County municipalities, please reach out. https://www.lacrescentanimalrescue.com/volunteer

Please join us in acknowledging the exhaustive efforts and dedication of the volunteers and supportive community members who helped bring us to success in this endeavor. We are looking forward to many more years of partnership with the City of La Crescent, service to the entire community, and most of all taking great care of our animals! 🐾

Update on Vallery: Thank you everyone for helping. Vallery was diagnosed with Feline Idiopathic Cystitis. Due to this, Vallery is not a good candidate for adoption and will most likely be a permanent resident here at the sanctuary. We will continue to care for and love her here at the sanctuary. Thanks again to all you caring, compassionate people.

Good morning all. We need a little help again. This beautiful girl was found on the streets of Winona a couple months and never claimed. We are suspicious now that she was tossed out of her home due to some health issues, because she is very tame and she was already spayed.

Normally a tame cat would be able to find its way into a rescue group thru Evergreen but with this girl we need to find out what is going on with her with some vet work.

And of course that is where we need your help! We have to have the money to get her to the vet. Maybe she has urinary issues maybe she has kidney disease we just really are not sure without some bloodwork and labs.

Is anyone willing to donate a few dollars to help get this girl the care she needs which may help us get her into the loving home she deserves and not be tossed out like trash again.

Look how cute and sweet she is!! Thank you in advance.

This beautiful facility is scheduled to be up and running March 1st.

This beautiful facility is scheduled to be up and running March 1st.

VIP chandeliers!
We are so proud we will not only be offering two special suites for dogs that may need more TLC, either because of disabilities or advanced age ( although any pup can also book them), but that 20% of the proceeds from our VIP suites will be donated to two of our favorite causes Camp Companion animal rescue and Evergreen Cat Sanctuary!
These two local organizations are amazing and do so much for the animals in SE Minnesota.
