We are beyond thrilled with the progress Ellie has made with her new family. For those that followed her story, she escaped but due to the dedication and love of her family, they found her safe. She is now living her best life ever..proof of the resilience of our Collie friends when given a chance to thrive. Congrats Ellie..you sure hit the jackpot with your new family! Here is what her new Mama has to say:

“Ellie is doing amazing! We had a rough start getting home when she got out of the car and was on the run for 17 days. Now that she has been home and is settling in, she's doing great.

We have been to the vet and have a follow-up appointment at the end of the month. She is on heartworm prevention.

Ellie does great with our other collie, Sylvester. She is friendly with our cat, Sophie, even though it's taken a bit for Sophie to warm up to her.

Ellie is still a little skittish when it comes to getting pets and affection but she lets us know when she is ready for some cuddles every once in a while.

We were surprised to learn that she is 4 and not 2 years old, like we were told when we picked her up. But that doesn't lessen any of the love we have for her!

We can't wait to make a lifetime of memories with our girl and are so grateful to TSCR for bringing her into our family. ❤️☺️”

For today's tip, we're sharing this great graphic from about ! ❄️ 🐾

As much as and many other dogs love , it can be tough on their precious little paws. Check out Paws With A Cause's tips for keeping them in tip-top shape!

✂️ Trim the fur in between your pup's toes to avoid icy buildup.

🧴 Purchase a dog-friendly salve or balm to soothe your pup's paws, which may become dry and cracked from the cold.

🧂 Use a dog-safe salt or ice melt product! Many salts can burn and irritate dogs' paws, and some commercial ice melt products are toxic if ingested.

🧼 Clean your dog's paws after coming inside to make sure that you remove any salt and/or ice melt residue.

🥾 Consider using some dog snow booties to help protect your pup's paws.

"Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'" — Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Today we celebrate the birthday—and honor the incredible life and legacy—of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. King was a visionary leader and advocate for equality whose impact on the civil rights movement in the United States cannot be understated.

While Dr. King himself was not known for shepherding animal rights, his love and compassion for all life may have influenced his family members to take up that mantle. His widow, Coretta Scott King, and their second son, Dexter, both became vegan in support of animal rights. They believed that veganism was a natural extension of Dr. King's philosophy of nonviolence, and Mrs. King herself once said, "The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members."

So today, in honor of Dr. King, we encourage everyone to ask themselves life's "most persistent and urgent" question: "What are you doing for others?" And we further encourage you to be compassionate, , and for others, human or animal. 🫶

Is eating popcorn safe for dogs? Yes and no, according to the American Kennel Club (AKC)!

Plain, air-popped popcorn is safe for dogs to eat and can make a fun occasional treat in small quantities! However, buttered popcorn, or popcorn with other toppings, should be avoided on a regular basis. (A few pieces that your dog picks up off the floor or from spills on the sofa during movie night probably won't hurt them!)

Popcorn kernels can get stuck in dogs' teeth and become a choking hazard, so make sure to keep whole or partially popped kernels away from your pup.

So feel free to enjoy some with your best pal! 🐶

For more information, check out this article on the AKC's website: https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/nutrition/can-dogs-eat-popcorn/.

Beau has been adjusting very well! We love him so much and he’s a great addition to our family. He does play very well with other dogs the few times we have taken him to the dog park. We have taken so many pictures of him haha but I will include my favorite. Glad we had the opportunity to adopt from a great organization!

In keeping with yesterday's post about helping hypothermic animals, we also wanted to share Lost Dogs of America's great tips about where to look for in frigid conditions. ❄️

Common places where may seek shelter from the cold include:

🐾 Places with some form of heat (e.g., heating vents, warm exhaust from buildings, heat from landscape lighting, warm surfaces like parked cars)

🐾 Sheltered spaces (e.g., under porches or decks, in covered areas)

🐾 Open garages or sheds

🐾 Dense vegetation, bushes, and/or shrubs that offer some protection from the wind and cold

🐾 Burrows under piles of leaves, snow, or other debris

🐾 Abandoned buildings, barns, or other structures that they can access

Please keep an eye out in your neighborhood and community for who need a warm, safe place to be. And if you do find a , please remember to take them to a local veterinarian or pet supply store, or even call the police non-emergency phone line, to have him or her checked for a microchip.

40 Years of Rescuing, Restoring, and Rehoming! 🐶 ❤️‍🩹 🏠

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed individuals can change the world. In fact, it's the only thing that ever has." — Margaret Mead

We think that Margaret Mead's quote is the perfect one to describe TSCR's past, present, and future. In 1984, our Director, Sharon Goodburn, founded TSCR in . TSCR saved 17 during its first year of operation and has gone on to save thousands of dogs since. 📈

Over the years, TSCR has expanded our service area to include , , , , , , , , , and . We're blessed to have an incredible team of volunteers throughout those states, and because our goal is to find the best match for each of our , we work with qualified adopters from much of the mainland U.S. as long as they're willing and able to travel to the dog's foster home for adoption.

As TSCR begins our 41st year of operation, we're more determined than ever to continue changing the world, one at a time. We're so thankful for the support of our volunteers, adopters, donors, vet/business partners, followers, and fans, and we hope that we can continue to count on that support! 🧡

PHYSICAL FENCE REQUIRED

Barry..... some dogs are physically fit. Some dogs come into the rescue and do not need a beauty makeover. For whatever reason, they need a mental and emotional reset. That is where our foster homes are most important. Our fosters take the time to help these dogs conquer their fears and concerns. Barry is prime example. He came to the rescue undisciplined. True example of a wild child. He needed the calm assertiveness of a masterful volunteer to help him become the Collie he was always meant to be. Barry needed to be shown that the world is a good place and it's okay to trust people.

While we all love to see the physical make overs with our rescues, it is the mental/emotional ones that make the most impact. For us and certainly for the Collies that come through our doors. To witness the metamorphosis from an unruly, uncertain, mentally depressed Collie into the bright and eager for love Collie is the miracle of fostering and rescuing.
Join us in congratulating Barry on his remarkable transformation from CollieNot to ColllieCan!! With special thanks to his foster, who knew the real Barry was just waiting to be set free from his past.

If Barry strikes your fancy and you are ready to help him continue to be the best Collie citizen ever, please fill out an adoption application today! Don't wait! And if Barry isn’t your cup of tea, we have many more Collies of all ages coming in weekly. Please visit https://tristatecollierescue.org/how-to-adopt/ to complete the adoption application.

We've been seeing lots of posts on social media lately, and while that's always concerning, we're especially worried about these poor pets in light of the being experienced by so many parts of the U.S. right now. 🥺

We wanted to share this infographic from about what to do if you find a hypothermic animal. These tips apply to as well as .

DO NOT:
❌ Feed the hypothermic animal.
❌ Submerse the hypothermic animal in water.

DO:
✅ Dry the hypothermic animal.
✅ Stroke the animal to stimulate blood flow.
✅ Get the animal to a vet immediately.

Stay safe out there, and please keep an eye out for animals who need help! 🙏

Happy ! 🥛

It's no secret that lots of dogs love dairy products. (Pup cup, anyone?) But can dogs drink ?

Milk is generally a safe treat for dogs, but only in small quantities. It's high in fat and natural sugars, which can contribute to obesity and pancreatitis in dogs if consumed in excess. Also, many dogs are lactose intolerant, meaning that they can't properly break down lactose, the key sugar in milk.

To sum up, you can try giving your dog milk sparingly—no more than a few tablespoons at a time! Cheese and yogurt are often easier to digest and may be more reliable options for a special treat. Yogurt has the added bonus of natural probiotics, which can benefit GI health.

If you're introducing your dog to milk, or any dairy product, remember to keep an eye on them for signs of an adverse reaction or lactose intolerance. The most common symptoms of lactose intolerance are: loose stools, gas, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.

And please remember that it's always best to talk to your veterinarian before introducing anything new into your pup's diet. 🩺

For more information, visit the American Kennel Club's () website and check out their article on milk!

OOPS! You missed him!! Marshall's official post didn't even get to make it's Facebook or Instagram debut before his forever family matched with him. There are times when we get Collies in that fit perfectly with an adopter who's already been approved and in our system. We encourage you to get your applications in as soon as you are ready to adopt, that way, if your perfect match comes along, no time will be wasted getting you to each other!

"You don't need a cape to be a hero. All you need is to care." — Kid President

We absolutely love this Kid President quote and thought it would be some great to share!

All of the kindhearted folks who adopt from us, along with those who volunteer, foster, and donate, are heroes in our eyes. And Kid President is right; none of them wear capes. They're ordinary people who care enough to for in need.

Last year exceeded 2023's record numbers and was one of TSCR's busiest years ever—we took in 166 dogs in need and connected 168 precious pups with their forever families. But this year already looks to be on track to be even busier. It is positively raining in rescue right now. We're committed to helping as many of them as we can, but we desperately need more transport volunteers to bring them into program, and more loving foster homes to give them a soft place to land.

So if you care enough to for in need, please visit our website (www.TriStateCollieRescue.org) to learn about the different ways that you can help us!
