Here is Kelly! A super sweet little girl but she thinks hair is a great toy and fingers are fun to nibble on. Fortunately for all of us, Kelly is loving her lessons in manners and how to be a proper young lady. While her siblings are playing, she’d much rather be on my lap getting ear scritches..so sweet! She can be a bit of a drama queen and protested a bit too much during bathtime and pawdicure but we taught her in short order that that kind of behavior will not be tolerated. Happy to report that Kelly survived the ordeal and did not hold a grudge! She is learning quickly how to properly enjoy play time and loves play of all kinds.

Potty and crate training are coming along great..Kelly is a very smart girl and wants to please. Leash training is still a work in progress but we have no doubt that with more lessons she will catch on.

Kelly is sister to Tori, Dylan and Star and is patiently awaiting her furever home. While we know that her pops is a full Collie as we have him in rescue, we are not quite sure what breed mama is.

In this post for our series, we’re putting a spotlight on parvo.

Parvo is a common—and highly contagious—disease caused by the canine parvovirus (CPV). CPV can infect dogs of all ages, but puppies between the ages of 6 weeks and 6 months are especially susceptible to the virus. 🦠

Parvo is mainly a disease of the gastrointestinal system, especially the stomach and small intestines. In puppies, parvo can also affect the bone marrow and heart. While there is no cure for parvo, supportive veterinary care is given to affected dogs to treat their symptoms. The survival rate for puppies with parvo ranges from 68-92%.❤️‍🩹

Immunization is the best way to protect your dog from being infected with CPV. Parvo vaccines are given to puppies as a 3-part booster series. Adult dogs should receive regular parvo booster vaccines. 💉

It’s incredibly important to take extra precautions to prevent your puppy from being exposed to CPV until he or she has received all 3 puppy parvo shots. CPV spreads easily, and it can survive in indoor and outdoor environments for incredibly long periods of time. Take care to avoid exposure when socializing your puppy outside of your home, and consider using cleaners that are proven to kill CPV. 🧼

We’re kicking off our series with a big one: rabies.

Rabies is a devastating—and deadly—disease that can affect many mammals, including dogs and humans. The disease occurs when the rabies virus infects the nervous system. 🦠

“Vaccination is the cornerstone of rabies prevention,” according to veterinarians Dr. Krista Williams, Dr. Tammy Hunter, and Dr. Ernest Ward. Today’s rabies vaccines for dogs are extremely safe—and incredibly effective—as long as they’re administered before the rabies virus has a chance to enter the nervous system. 💉

Keeping dogs current on their rabies immunizations doesn’t just protect them; it also protects the entire public from rabies. That’s why most states have laws requiring dog owners to keep their pups current on their rabies vaccines.

“My name is Tori and my Foster Mama says I am a total snuggle bug. I love to play and will play with anybody and anything that wants to play with me – I am just a little kid after all! My Foster Mama says I have a sassy streak in me. I am not sure what that means but I am working really hard to become a good Collie mix citizen and listen to what me elders tell me. Sometimes I “talk back” but I am just trying to figure out this big world so some direction and encouragement is something I guess I need. I am studying lots of new subjects: potty, crate and leash training and I know when my report card comes out, I will get great marks! Food puzzles and this thing called a Kong are my favorite and will keep me very busy on my own.

Everyone asks me about what I am mixed with..Collie and cuteness is my answer! My Daddy, who joined my siblings and I in rescue is full Collie. We are not sure what my Mama is but some folks have told me she could be a Lab, Golden Retriever or Pyrenees. Did I mention I am mixed with cuteness AND smarts?!”

My name is Nico! I am just 8 months into this big world. Even though I am wise beyond my years…errr months, there is still a lot I still need to learn but I am a quick learner! I just have so much to say!! Nothing escapes my attention, and I just have to speak my mind! So, you have to be willing to discuss world affairs with me. My foster mom won't let me chase them either and I do my best to listen to her – after all she is the keeper of those tasty treats I like so much. I think I am going to be a big boy. This adorable girl is beyond her age in her comic ways. The joy this little gal brings is palatable! Polly has happiness that knows no bounds. There are no enemies or strangers to her. Look at her face, you can see the love of life sparkling in her eyes. She has such confidence and is a sage, so she needs a home that can teach her to channel her pride and intelligence in the right direction! She is still just a pup, so expect some velociraptor moments that are all in gentle fun! Her zany antics will endear her to you and you will be rewarded with lots of affection. Despite being a youngster she is a quick study and loves extended leash walks and car rides..smart as a whip this one!

Meet Sabrina! She is a 2 year old tri-color smooth Collie with a heart full of love, ready to find her forever home! Sabrina came into Collie Rescue pregnant and delivered five adorable puppies. She has been a wonderful mother, but now it's her turn to find a loving family of her own.

Sabrina is known for her sweet and loving nature, often crawling into your lap for endless cuddles. As a true Velcro dog, she thrives on close contact and will follow you around wherever you go. She gets along wonderfully with other dogs, though she doesn't like cats, so a cat-free home is ideal.

Sabrina is crate trained and housebroken, making her an easy addition to any household. She's also a good eater and not picky with her food. While she walks well on a leash, she could benefit from an obedience class to refine her manners and become the best companion possible.

One important detail to note is that Sabrina can climb a 3-foot fence, so she will need to be supervised when outside or have a yard with a fence at least 4 feet high.

In honor of , we wanted to showcase some of our Collie and Sheltie mix success stories. We’re a breed-specific rescue for Collies, but we do our best to help mixed-breed pups on an emergency basis. We’re also always happy to help out other shelters and rescue organizations by crossposting their Collie and Sheltie mix residents in order to help them find their forever homes. 🏠

A dog doesn’t have to be purebred to be pure of heart, and even if a pup is not 100% Collie, they can still be 100% wonderful! ❤️

She's a Lady, yeah, yeah, yeah, she's a Lady!!

And every day is her day in her new home!!

Lady (formerly Whitney and mom to the Collie/Sheltie pups) has moved right into her new home with nary a backward glance and waltzed right into her new Mama's heart! She even sleeps in bed with her mom!

Mom says Lady keeps her "brother" dog on his toes and similarly keeps mom laughing with her silly antics. Lady and her brother love doing zoomies and having wrestlemania bouts together! What could be better than this?!

We strive for happy endings for every Collie, just like Lady. While Lady came from a loving home who's life's circumstances sadly prevented them from from keeping her, no matter their condition, every Collie deserves a life of love and happiness! Join us in making this happen!

The 28th Annual Gathering at is just 1️⃣ month away! 🗓

The is held every year by the Collie Health Foundation to raise funds for their lifesaving work. TSCR will have a booth at the event, and we look forward to connecting with there!

This year’s Gathering will be held from August 17-18 at 381 Terhune Drive, Wayne, NJ 07470. Here’s what the Collie Health Foundation has to say about the Annual Gathering:

"The Gathering is held the third weekend in August at the ‘mecca’ of Colliedom, Sunnybank, in Wayne, New Jersey. Sunnybank was the home of Albert Payson Terhune, renowned dog writer, Collie breeder, and owner. This magical place, Sunnybank, served as the setting for many of his famous dog stories. Unfortunately, the Sunnybank house was demolished in 1969, but nine acres of the property remain for the public to enjoy. Here you can see the graves of the Lad, Bruce, and Jean, as well as the graves of the other Collie greats like Wolf, Fair Ellen, Treve, and Gray Dawn at Champion Rock. Stop by the old puppy run, and relax as the Master and Mistress did in years gone by at the Lily Pool.

"The most loved of any of the Collie Health Foundation sponsored events brings fans of the Master and Collie fanciers from all over the world. The festivities have been managed for over 20 years by our own Madam of Sunnybank, Gerrie Oliver. The first day is devoted to the Sunnybank story, Albert and Anice, and of course the Sunnybank Collies. Speakers bring the past back to life and the breeze brings us to understand the magic that is Sunnybank. Saturday afternoon may be devoted to clinics and Sunnybank centered events! The ‘Madam’ hosts a wonderful dinner for all of her friends that is part of this glorious weekend. The Madam has a special cake each year to fit the occasion – it is always beautiful, but hurry to get a picture! Then it is off to bed to be fresh for Sunday’s activities.

"Sunday brings us the Virtues Match, the Lad Memorial Match, and so much more. There are silent auctions, premium items with the theme of this year’s Gathering, and promotional items from CHF, plus exciting live auctions each day. Come join us, and hear the trumpeting barks of Collies that fill the air over Sunnybank once again.

Meet Lady! Lady is a 10-month-old Rough Collie sweetheart who, because of her traumatic past, takes time to become comfortable around new humans and experiences. But with the patience, understanding, and support from an experienced pup parent, we think that this sweet girl will come out of her shell.

Lady is a pretty good walker and always looks forward to her daily walks. She also loves to play outside in the yard and needs to have a physical fence at her forever home. Her absolute favorite thing in the world, though, is playing with other dogs! Her foster mom says that Lady is totally in her element when she’s part of a pack. Lady really needs a dog sibling (or two!) of her own to play with, and who can help to show her the ropes and build her confidence.

Due to her past experiences, Lady is often wary of humans, especially ones whom she hasn’t met before. Once she bonds with someone, she enjoys being petted and will even give them kisses sometimes! She also likes to stick close by them; she loves hanging out on the couch in her foster mom’s office. The right person/family for Lady will be experienced in working with dogs who are timid around new humans. They’ll also be patient and willing to give her all the time that she needs to build her confidence and adjust to being a part of the family.

Lady is coming along nicely with her house training and enjoys her crate time going in willingly for rest. She’s found that chicken snacks are super yummy and now being used for her training. We’re sure that with that under their guidance—and with patience and effort—Lady will be a great Collie citizen.
