With all this rain comes mud and HOOF ABSCESSES!
🤠 This week we got a call about an acutely lame horse and thankfully Dr. Rubin was able to find the spot and release the pressure in the hoof from a the diagnosed hoof abscess.
🤠 Hoof abscesses can be common and can be caused be several different things such as moisture, hot nails or bruising in the hoof. Some horses can have an abcsess and will never show any signs of lameness while others can become dramaticly lame quite quickly! Once the abscess “blows” or opens up the patient typically gets instant pain relief. Some cases resolve rather quickly (several days) and other can take time (several weeks) to resolve.
