Dr. Neisius' speech from Monday's groundbreaking ceremony:

"I was told that most people get up here and give a speech about the history of the company and some details about the project... and so I've prepared a few words on that, and maybe a bit more.

Today marks a special moment in the timeline of Indian Hills Animal Clinic. Dr. Kastens started IHAC in 1963. Twenty-five years later, he designed and built the award-winning clinic we still practice out of today- at our 13th & Sheridan location, as well as opening the second location near 21st & Maize road. Twelve years later, they moved that clinic to the current location at 13th & Maize. And here we are, twenty-five years after that, continuing to grow, thrive and dream big, by building this new facility.

Back then, there weren't a lot of veterinary clinics in the area- so having multiple locations was a means of providing high quality care conveniently to the community. Fast forward to today and Wichita proper has over 60 veterinary clinics. In fact, there are 8 clinics within a 2-mile radius of our Maize road location and 5 within a 2-mile radius of our 13th street location. Therefore, there are now plenty of options if a client is looking for convenience.

And we have learned that while convenience is nice... clients building a relationship with your veterinary team, going to a clinic with integrity, and going above and beyond for each and every pet and client is far more desirable than a quick drive with "Stanley."

And it's because of those relationships that we've build that we know IHAC will continue to thrive in this new location. This spot is 4.6 miles from our 13th street location and 2.1 miles from our Maize Road location. It's as "in between the two locations" as we could find. We have spent the last 14+ months working with an incredible architect firm based out of Boulder, Colorado- Animal Arts. They have designed the clinic of our dreams. With the help with Simpson Construction and Emprise Bank, this spot will become a 13,600 square foot facility.

It will have:
- 9 Canine exam rooms
- 3 Feline-only exam rooms
- 1 exotics exam room
- 2 exam rooms with private patios for patients that are more comfortable being outside the clinic than inside
- Separate isolation rooms for contagious respiratory cases and contagious GI cases.
- A dedicated oncology suite, dental suite, surgical suite, pharmacy, lab and ICU
- It has room for boarding, although smaller than we're used to, but boarding for dogs, cats and exotics.

And I can't believe, after YEARS of discussions, decisions and meetings, we're standing here today ready to make it happen.

First and foremost, I have to acknowledge the incredible hard work of our teams at IHAC. Your dedication, expertise, and passion for the animals we care for are the heart and soul of our clinics. Your excitement over this dream becoming a reality has fueled me throughout this process. There wasn't a single meeting during the design process where your health, safety, and happiness wasn't a top priority. I am proud to work with you. I am proud to know and love each of you. And I am proud to build this clinic FOR you... as this dream would not have been possible without you.

Next, to our wonderful clients- thank you for trusting us with the care of your pets. We do not take lightly the confidence you have in us. We know this new location may be more or less convenient than our other two have been for you in the past, but you and your pets will continue to feel appreciated, welcomed, and receive the best care IHAC can offer with each and every visit here. A large part of our design in this clinic is geared towards your pet's safety and comfort and we know this design will maximize our ability to prevent disease, as well as treat disease, so they can spend more time in your lives. I am proud to serve you. I am proud to know and love as many of you as I do. And I'm proud to build this clinic FOR you.

To my friends and to my family- your unwavering support and encouragement have been a constant source of strength throughout this journey. I believe the first property I considered for htis project was in 2019... and for you to have not just smiled and nodded your way through these last few years hasn't gone unnoticed! You've listened when I was ready to share. You supported when you knew I needed it. You encouraged me when I had doubts. And you were kind to me when I refused to talk about it. I've learned that as you get older, your friend circle (even family circle) gets smaller and smaller, but the relationships get deeper and stronger. However when I look at you all here today, I see just how deep our roots of love and support go. And I am moved beyond words. I am proud to be your daughter, your niece, your sister, your friend, your "team mom"... and I am proud to build this clinic FOR you.

And finally, to my husband, Adam- I've heard you in interviews and on phone calls talking about the support your crazy wife gives you. Well now it's my turn to tell everyone about the support you've given me. You have been by my side and filled with understanding, love and humor. You've wiped tears of frustration, fear and anxiety from my cheeks (most recently just a couple of weeks ago). You have never questioned the necessity of my long hours or weekend work needs. You've *tried* to watch me do surgeries, and you've frequently said with love "oh, look at that little guy!" when you come to the clinic and someone's pet is begging you for love. You've bonded with the weirdest of my coworkers and you've sought out updates on the wellness of others. I will probably be too focused on this build to continue to talk about new floors, baseboards and a new kitchen at our home now. But I won't be too focused to appreciate you and the love you've given me in making this dream a reality. I am proud to be your wife and best friend and I am prouid to build this clinic WITH you.

So today marks a special moment in the IHAC timeline. What seems like a huge milestone will, in 25 years or so, be another blip in our incredible history. But for today, it's definitely the beginning of our dream and excitement. Thank you all for being here and being a part of this "blip."

Thank you!"

With the upcoming build happening, we have decided to make some changes at IHAC that are for the betterment of many! We are excited to share those with you today:

1. We are very excited to announce that The Clubhouse (our dog daycare) will now be accepting small children. We ask that any parents with an interest in their children staying with us bring proof of their vaccinations against rabies, distemper/parvo and bordetella; as well as a negative stool test for parasites.

2. We are reopening our clinic on Saturdays... for sloths & duck-billed platapus only. We are hoping to ease into Saturday appointments, take it slow, until we can get accustomed to the additional hours. Sloths seemed like the perfect fit for this.

3. Our hospital staff will start wearing stretchy yoga pants instead of scrubs. Just because.

4. In addition to becoming a childcare facility, our practice manager, Randi, is excited to start offering kid nail trims! She specializes in the "pedicures" for toddlers.

We have found bringing on these additional revenue streams will help to keep our prices reasonable for other veterinary services your pets will need! We thank you for your support and can't wait to share our progress on social media!

Today we celebrate Little Bit!!

She turned 17 this month and has been a patient of ours her entire life! She can get a bit sassy with some staff and gets excited with some staff… but absolutely loves being carried around in our clinic dog sling/carrier by anyone when we watch her!

Her mom spoils her rotten and has always been an advocate for “Lil Bit’s” health! ❤️

Happy 17th Little Bit!! 🥳🥳

A huge congratulations to IHAC's veterinary nursing team member, Olivia! She was accepted into the next class of veterinary students at Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine! Starting this fall... in four short, tough years, she will be Dr. Olivia Jarboe!

Olivia- we are incredibly excited for you and so proud of you. You worked your tail off this last year- soaking in every experience and gaining tons of knowledge! Having started in the daycare and kennels, then being promoted to our nursing team, we saw the potential you had and we're glad K-State saw it too! You will make an amazing veterinarian!

Congratulations!

We are preparing for tomorrow and heeding the advice of the experts!

IHAC will be closed tomorrow morning due to weather conditions. We will be available for clients from 1pm-6pm with a smaller crew than normal. We encourage clients to heed the advice of the experts as well- but we will be available should you need us.

(Our incredible CSR teams will be reaching out to those who currently have a scheduled morning appointment or surgery).

Please stay safe and warm!

An e-mail was sent out to our teams today with the subject, "Happy Gotcha Day." Turns out, eleven years ago today, Dr. Neisius purchased the clinics and in doing so, she adopted IHAC and all of us! So it was OUR gotcha day! 🤣

It's hard to believe it's been eleven years and when asked about it, Dr. Neisius said, "I heard most vet clinic owners sell after the 10 year mark- primarily because it's hard, anxiety-inducing, stressful and exhausting. I get that. I feel that. But it's a lot easier to handle the negative aspects when you have the people that we have at IHAC by my side. I don't think I have another eleven years in me, but I do know that we have a REALLY fun year coming up and eleven will very quickly turn into twelve and then thirteen- and I know I can keep going because our teams support, encourage, uplift, and help me more than they know!"

So happy Gotcha day to IHAC and congrats to Dr. Neisius on eleven wonderful years as a locally owned, female owned, small business owner!
