Congratulations to Dr. Farha and her husband Tim on the birth of their sweet little girl, Juliana! She graced them with her presence last week and all are doing well!

We 1000% believe in the miracles of microchips. We encourage every single one of our clients to have their pets microchipped and we have ours priced to where it's not cost prohibitive- just $32.50! You do NOT have to pay a yearly subscription from a microchip company if you don't want to- a chip sold to IHAC and assigned to your pet will always have a trail to us in order to help reunite lost pets- subscription or not.
If you want a free microchip- Kansas Humane Society teams up with IHAC staff to microchip pets at Woofstock (October 5th) for no charge (but donations appreciated)!
A new animal ordinance in Wichita will require dog and cat owners to microchip their pets and pay more in fines.

Holy moley! We did nail trims on 392 pets in July!!
According to Liz, “That’s 6272 nails, not including dew claws!”
Nail trims are an important part of pet ownership and animal comfort! We’re happy to teach owners to do them or do them for you!
🚨🚨 We all just received word that the local emergency hospital (VESHW) is closed tonight. Urgent pet care is open until 11 pm. After 11 pm, the closest emergency hospital is KSU in Manhattan. 785-532-5690.
With such short notice, we don’t have a back-up option for our clients in place. Please keep your pets safe & calm tonight. We open at 7:00am tomorrow.

1. Dr Hill had the tough, tough, tough job of doing pediatric exams on NINE black lab pups this morning!! (Dr Neisius tried to steal one)
2. We’re closed during lunch today for our monthly staff meeting!
We can’t express the importance of dental health enough for your pets! And we practice what we preach!!
Stanley is Dr Neisius’ dog and had his teeth cleaned with three extractions this morning! He is just 3 years old and this is his 4th dentistry!
Just last week, Dr Beetch had her two dog’s teeth cleaned!!

This summer, one of our Animal Care Assistants, Hannah, completed a required internship for college (she’s hoping to be Dr. Hannah, DVM in the future).
As part of that internship, she was shown how to properly scrub in and gown up for surgery! She helped retract and cut suture while Dr. Robinson performed the procedure.
Last week during our lunch time staff meeting, Dr. Robinson shared her experiences on her continuing education trip! She introduced everyone to “MRI” thinking as a tool to better communicate and connect with clients!
In 2013, IHAC was blessed with the addition of Dr. Jenna Hill to our doctor team! She was quiet, intelligent, caring and motivated.
Since then she has become a strong, confident, hilarious, and amazing veterinarian and leader for our staff and clients. She will always go above and beyond for our patients, their owners, and our teams. IHAC wouldn't be the same without her!
So, for the last 11 years, Dr. Hill- THANK YOU and Happy Anniversary!
18 years ago yesterday, a little baby DVM joined IHAC. Her name was Dr. Hicks.
She’s not much into getting attention for special days like that, but she’s one of the reasons we’re here. Thank you for doing ALL of the things you do to lead and support us!

Three vet visits in two weeks… but thanks to his mom and Dr. Hiskett, sweet Duke Silver is on the mend and ready to be a happy, healthy puppy!

This big pup (11 months old dane) reeled himself into some trouble!
Luckily Dr Beetch (a “reel” pro) was able to remove the lure and get him back to enjoying his summer… hook free! 🐟
It is definitely "grass awn" season in the veterinary world... so I ask that all owners do this regularly:
1) Check your pets feet (preferably daily if you take them on walks, go to parks, or have these foxtails in your yards). These like to get stuck in fur and hair in between the toes and on the bottom side.
2) If you see any, remove them and throw them away.
3) If you're walking and see a treasure trove of grass awns in the area, try to avoid having your dog walk through them.
4) If you ever see a swelling in between your dogs toes, take them to your vet. The sooner we can explore the swelling and find them, the better.
This is what a patch of these "foxtails" or "grass awns" look like in an otherwise normal yard. Once the homeowners mow the yard, these will accumulate in the yard, or the on the sidewalk, or even in the street. They dry out, get stiff and then cause problems.

It's very hard to get all our teams together for staff meetings! We've made it work one Friday afternoon a month. But today, we're going to try going back to how we did staff meetings (pre-COVID)- which is one Friday a month during lunch time!
So we WILL be closed today from 11-2:00 for our staff meeting, but will reopen (Maize reopens at 2 and 13th at 2:30) to meet our clients needs this afternoon/evening!

We were referred a patient for an endoscope procedure to try to identify the reason for it's chronic vomiting. The referring clinic did an excellent work-up and no matter the treatment, the poor dog just kept vomiting and was starting to lose weight. Dr. Neisius and her team knew right away something was amiss when she entered the stomach with the scope. There was a lot of abnormal inflammation, edema and some small, punctate lesions that looked scabbed. Upon closer inspection, she saw a tiny immature worm wiggling and knew the diagnosis immediately. Stomach worms, or physaloptera sp., can be hard to diagnose as the eggs aren't easily found on our stool tests- and they require a different deworming protocol than most other GI parasites. Dogs can get stomach worms after eating crickets, beetles and other infected insects, and it can take as few as 1-3 worms to cause significant vomiting and gastritis. Our team removed one of the four worms we saw- to assess it under the microscope, took a few biopsies to make sure nothing else was an issue, and woke the patient up with good news for it's mom and regular veterinarian. #ihacvet #vetmedlife #ernietheendoscope
IHAC’s Community Outreach hit us in all the feels again this year!! 🎄 We were able to help provide gifts for 45 individuals in our community that needed a little extra help this season… ages 10 months to 49 years old! ❤️ Within 20 minutes of posting the names, they were all “adopted” and in just four days, the gifts were purchased, wrapped, and delivered! Wouldn’t life be grand if we could appreciate the small things? Our daycare kiddo’s demonstrate to us how to enjoy the tiny things (or in this case….. Tiny Bubbles). Our little guys didn’t really care for the bubble shenanigans, so Taryn, one our fantastic ACA’s sat with them and played with some “ Tiny Toys”!
