Dr. Neisius' speech from Monday's groundbreaking ceremony:
"I was told that most people get up here and give a speech about the history of the company and some details about the project... and so I've prepared a few words on that, and maybe a bit more.
Today marks a special moment in the timeline of Indian Hills Animal Clinic. Dr. Kastens started IHAC in 1963. Twenty-five years later, he designed and built the award-winning clinic we still practice out of today- at our 13th & Sheridan location, as well as opening the second location near 21st & Maize road. Twelve years later, they moved that clinic to the current location at 13th & Maize. And here we are, twenty-five years after that, continuing to grow, thrive and dream big, by building this new facility.
Back then, there weren't a lot of veterinary clinics in the area- so having multiple locations was a means of providing high quality care conveniently to the community. Fast forward to today and Wichita proper has over 60 veterinary clinics. In fact, there are 8 clinics within a 2-mile radius of our Maize road location and 5 within a 2-mile radius of our 13th street location. Therefore, there are now plenty of options if a client is looking for convenience.
And we have learned that while convenience is nice... clients building a relationship with your veterinary team, going to a clinic with integrity, and going above and beyond for each and every pet and client is far more desirable than a quick drive with "Stanley."
And it's because of those relationships that we've build that we know IHAC will continue to thrive in this new location. This spot is 4.6 miles from our 13th street location and 2.1 miles from our Maize Road location. It's as "in between the two locations" as we could find. We have spent the last 14+ months working with an incredible architect firm based out of Boulder, Colorado- Animal Arts. They have designed the clinic of our dreams. With the help with Simpson Construction and Emprise Bank, this spot will become a 13,600 square foot facility.
It will have:
- 9 Canine exam rooms
- 3 Feline-only exam rooms
- 1 exotics exam room
- 2 exam rooms with private patios for patients that are more comfortable being outside the clinic than inside
- Separate isolation rooms for contagious respiratory cases and contagious GI cases.
- A dedicated oncology suite, dental suite, surgical suite, pharmacy, lab and ICU
- It has room for boarding, although smaller than we're used to, but boarding for dogs, cats and exotics.
And I can't believe, after YEARS of discussions, decisions and meetings, we're standing here today ready to make it happen.
First and foremost, I have to acknowledge the incredible hard work of our teams at IHAC. Your dedication, expertise, and passion for the animals we care for are the heart and soul of our clinics. Your excitement over this dream becoming a reality has fueled me throughout this process. There wasn't a single meeting during the design process where your health, safety, and happiness wasn't a top priority. I am proud to work with you. I am proud to know and love each of you. And I am proud to build this clinic FOR you... as this dream would not have been possible without you.
Next, to our wonderful clients- thank you for trusting us with the care of your pets. We do not take lightly the confidence you have in us. We know this new location may be more or less convenient than our other two have been for you in the past, but you and your pets will continue to feel appreciated, welcomed, and receive the best care IHAC can offer with each and every visit here. A large part of our design in this clinic is geared towards your pet's safety and comfort and we know this design will maximize our ability to prevent disease, as well as treat disease, so they can spend more time in your lives. I am proud to serve you. I am proud to know and love as many of you as I do. And I'm proud to build this clinic FOR you.
To my friends and to my family- your unwavering support and encouragement have been a constant source of strength throughout this journey. I believe the first property I considered for htis project was in 2019... and for you to have not just smiled and nodded your way through these last few years hasn't gone unnoticed! You've listened when I was ready to share. You supported when you knew I needed it. You encouraged me when I had doubts. And you were kind to me when I refused to talk about it. I've learned that as you get older, your friend circle (even family circle) gets smaller and smaller, but the relationships get deeper and stronger. However when I look at you all here today, I see just how deep our roots of love and support go. And I am moved beyond words. I am proud to be your daughter, your niece, your sister, your friend, your "team mom"... and I am proud to build this clinic FOR you.
And finally, to my husband, Adam- I've heard you in interviews and on phone calls talking about the support your crazy wife gives you. Well now it's my turn to tell everyone about the support you've given me. You have been by my side and filled with understanding, love and humor. You've wiped tears of frustration, fear and anxiety from my cheeks (most recently just a couple of weeks ago). You have never questioned the necessity of my long hours or weekend work needs. You've *tried* to watch me do surgeries, and you've frequently said with love "oh, look at that little guy!" when you come to the clinic and someone's pet is begging you for love. You've bonded with the weirdest of my coworkers and you've sought out updates on the wellness of others. I will probably be too focused on this build to continue to talk about new floors, baseboards and a new kitchen at our home now. But I won't be too focused to appreciate you and the love you've given me in making this dream a reality. I am proud to be your wife and best friend and I am prouid to build this clinic WITH you.
So today marks a special moment in the IHAC timeline. What seems like a huge milestone will, in 25 years or so, be another blip in our incredible history. But for today, it's definitely the beginning of our dream and excitement. Thank you all for being here and being a part of this "blip."
Thank you!"
