🌟Socialisation for Puppy🌟
When we talk about socialising puppies a lot of people first thought is to social their puppy with other dogs, but socialisation is much more than just other dogs.
Puppy have a ‘critical socialisation period’ this is between 4 and 16 weeks old , in this time we want to give our puppy positive and diverse experiences which should include different sounds, sights, surfaces, people, animals and smell. Socialising puppy in their critical socialisation period will help them respond better when they’re older.
Remember to always create a positive experience for your puppy and to always keep them calm when socialising, but number one thing is to have fun.
We were lucky to spend the 1st week of school holiday with Monty, the Strathfieldsaye Primary school dog.
We took Monty on many of adventures from shopping at Bunnings, meeting a couple of pigs, bush walks, playing with many doggy friends and of course lots of training.
Our goal was to expose Monty to new thing while working on his obedience in all these new environment
Monty did a fantastic job in our care.
River excited to let everyone know that Canine Companions has reopen!!
Meet our two big fur friends Paddy and Jimmy
Dylan and Sam had the joy to take these 2 out for an enrichment walk today, where they work on both Paddy and Jimmy confidence, socialisation, and training, while having fun along the way.
Both did a fabulous job on their outing today!
Video below is a little snippet of some confidence training we were doing with Jimmy and Paddy.
Canine Companions would like to wish everyone a Happy Easter!

Working on Stella’s training and engagement at the front door. Best part of this video is Stella’s tail wagging.
💥 Down waits are a powerful skill to teach your canine!!
⁉️Don’t think so⁉️
🛝 Here is a scenario for you, as you can see from this video Stella is in her down wait near a kids playground, this allow her handler Sam to attend to her kids on the park with Stella safely away from the park, which also allow Stella to be respectful to other people using the park.
To be able to put your dog in a down wait and attend to your kids, another dog or stop an off lead dog approaching, is powerful skill to keeping your dog safe.
River was excited to go back to work with Sam this morning.
River is excited to let everyone know that Caine Companions is back open again and we can’t wait to see all our doggy friends again.
While away I found this little video of a training session I did with River working on his vocal cue.
