☀️🥵 Extreme Heat & Signs of Heatstroke 🥵☀️

Today is going to be extremely hot across Victoria and the Bendigo region is forecasted to reach up to 43°C today!!

There are some steps you can take to look after our pets and wildlife:

🐶🐱 Do not leave pets in cars, even if in the shade with windows cracked.
If you see a pet unattended in a car please call 000 immediately!

🚶🏼‍♀️🐶 Walks should be very early or very late once the sun has gone down. If the ground is too hot for your bare feet, it is too hot for dogs to be walking.

💧💦 Please ensure your pets have access to plenty of fresh water and shade. If possible, bring your pets inside in a cool room.

🦎🐦🦆 Please consider leaving fresh water outside in shaded areas for wildlife to drink.

Familiarise yourself with the signs of Heatstroke (Hyperthermia):
• Heavy panting or rapid breathing
• Lethargic
• Disorientation
• Collapse
• Excessive salivation
• Dry mucous membranes (dry gums)
• Red or pale mucous membranes (gums)
• Elevated heart rate

You can begin active cooling methods on your way to your nearest veterinary clinic, you can turn your air conditioner or fan on in your car and place a damp cool towel against your pets abdomen / groin area.

🛑Never cover your pet with a wet cold towel as this can actually lead to an increase in body temperature.🛑

We had a busy day with our Thursday crew, photo of everyone completing their training today!!

🌟Recall 🌟
Recall training can be overlooked by people. We can get excited about teaching our dogs to roll over, shake, speak and every other skill then recall. But if all dogs have a great reliable recall, this would help with so many behaviours.

Here is a video of Sam and Banjo out having some fun at the oval, in this outing Banjo seen birds, other dogs on lead, kids, cars, but with his reliable recall Sam is able to recall him back with out a worry.

🟢 Recall tips 🟢
▪️ Start recall training in low distraction and familiar environment, (backyard are a great place to start)
▪️Always do recall training on lead,
▪️ Have high value reinforcement,
🎉 And Have Fun!

11 dogs running through our little obstacle course yesterday!

Sunday walk with Stella, River and Banjo. Nice day to be out in the sunshine, what did you and your dog get up to on the weekend?

This is a video of our Tuesday, Thursday and Friday crew going over our obstacle coures, we run through the course over 30 time this week. Our obstacle course Involved: - Starting with a sit - Weaving through cones - Walking or jumping over the Orange slide - Jumping on and off the platform - Over the purple peanut ball 🎉 Finishing with a little cuddle and celebration

What a beautiful start to our day, nice sunny morning while we run all our Tuesday crew through our little obstacle course.

Working through our new service and products but Stella was after a cuddle. There’s always time for a cuddle break.

📣EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT 📣 Canine Companions are very excited to welcome Dylan to our team. We look forward to sharing our new services, products and funny videos with you.

Yesterday we started our morning running all our doggie friends through a little obstacle course. Our obstacle course involved ⬇️. 🔸 Weaving through cones 🔷Jumping up on and off the platform. 🔸Completing a skill on the platform. 🔷In and out of the pool full of rope toys. 🎉 Finishing with little celebration at the end.

🐾 🔶River’s Training 🔶🐾 Here’s a little video of Sam training her dog River, teaching him to hop on and off his mark. This was River’s 2nd session working on this skill. His smashing through his training, great work to our trainer Sam and River.
