We often hear people say Petit pearl is a varietal they aren’t familiar with so we want to share some of its history!

It was released in 2009 by a Vitner named Tom Plocher in Hugo, Minnesota. Petite Pearl gets its name from its radiant blue-black berries and it stands out for its hardy nature, and late season budbreak. It presents moderate acidity, good balance, complex tannins and often shows aromas of blueberry and cherry with earthy hints of almonds and anise.

The most unique feature of this grape to us is that it is a teinturier grape. This means it is a red wine grape with dark skins and flesh while most red wine grapes have dark skins, but clear flesh.

The process we use to make it is called Carbonic Maceration. For a full carbonic maceration, intact whole bunches of grapes must be placed inside of a closed fermentation vessel and an anaerobic atmosphere is created, generally obtained by using carbon dioxide to exclude oxygen allowing the grapes to ferment whole cluster. The final product is called a Beaaujolais.

Our current vintage, 2022 Petit Rouge, a blend of 89% Petit Pearl and 11% Isabella that was gently aged on American Oak for 8 months, is available to try in our Tasting Room, open Saturdays and Sundays 11 - 5!

TRAINERS HAVE TRAINERS TOO!!

This is me and my "little man" RJ. Last weekend we got our Advanced Rally Title and scored a 93 placing third in his class! Rally is really fun obedience and Advanced level is off leash. Last trial we had some things to work through and barely scraped by with a 73. We have also NQ'd before and each time I am learning. I am so incredibly proud of him and how far he's come! He is also proving to be a great demo/helper dog for my clients working through reactivity and socialization.

My main focus as a Certified Canine Behavior Specialist is severe behavior issues such as aggression, anxiety, fear and reactivity. However, even as a trainer, I need help too! My mentors Mark and Stephanie McCabe with Training Between The Ears have taught me just about everything I know about behavior work and I wouldn't be the trainer I am without their amazing knowledge. Bethany with Moltuc Dog Training LLC is my Rally/Obedience trainer. She's helped RJ and I get where we are today and her encouragement and knowledge are pushing me into the obedience ring where I never thought I'd ever be. Faith Stiles is my Barn Hunt trainer and helped me and my dogs excel in the sport and have fun. Ashley with Canine Resistance Training, LLC has not only helped me get where I am in the sport of Weight Pull, but her program has also helped tremendously with some of my dogs with health issues. And lastly, but certainly most important, I owe everything to Heather with Calm Life Canine . She's not only my best friend, but an amazingly talented trainer herself that opened my world to workshops and sports I never knew existed. If it weren't for her patience and guidance I would not be where I am today in the dog world.

With so much strife happening in the dog trainer world Heather has had the idea of getting trainers together for a very long time. To build a better and kinder trainer community for all of us. Where we may have different ways of doing things and we may not always agree, but that doesn't mean we can't get along and still support one another. I can not wait to see what the future holds for her dream in this community!

Hello all my lovely clients!!! I'm so sorry I've been m.i.a. in the last few months. I know I've barely posted anything! And I'm so sorry! Been working on so many things in the background!

First, I want to congratulate the most recent CGC/Therapy Class!!! You all had things to really work on and test day you all knocked it out of the park!!! Every team has amazing things to help the people around them smile!!! Heather with Calm Life Canine and I are so very proud of you all!! Heather and I are working hard to put together some upcoming classes for more CGC/Therapy Certifications and a Loose leash walking workshop! Keep an eye out!

I've steadily been working on a few projects too! I've recently connected with the service dog group TADSAW (Train a dog save a warrior). I absolutely love their approach to training service dogs and hope to be able to hone my skills to help more veterans and civilians in need of a service dog!! I've also been working in a program for a local doggy daycare to improve communication and awareness, reduce stress and fights and increase a peaceful and fun atmosphere!!

Lastly, I've been working hard training my own dogs in several sports and also to be good stewards of their breeds and good helper and demo dogs for my clients. Excited to share their experiences as we work through things!

Thank you all for your support !!

Today is a HUGE day for our boy Lino! He was dropped off at the vet this morning for his first heartworm injection.

Heartworm is extremely serious and deadly to pups. The good thing is that heartworm is preventable with a monthly pill. It is also treatable. Unfortunately, the treatment is not only painful but very dangerous and expensive.

Please keep Lino in your thoughts today and consider making a donation towards his treatment:

HELP:
My name is Toby and I have been stolen. I am in the hands of a troubled individual and not getting my proper medications. But it gets worse. Way worse. My Daddy, Leroy Jenkins, has owned me for 11 years. He adopted me from the ECSPCA when I was tied to a pole at the Broadway Market. For 11 years, I was his pride and joy. I never missed a vet appointment. I went on walks allllll the time and went everywhere with my Dad. My Dad is a simple man and beloved member of the community. I am his world and he is mine.

My Dad let me begin spending time with his daughter, Nikia Jenkins, when he was at work so that I always had company. For a while, it was good. She has mental health issues, but I helped her. One day, about two and a half months ago, she changed. She stole me. It's not my Dad's fault... maybe she stopped taking her meds. But now I am not getting mine. I have skin allergies and and am not getting my Apoquil. I am suffering. And most of all, I miss my Dad. But it gets worse. Way worse.

My Dad tried everything to get me back. He waits outside my house. He has called the police and made reports. They know where I am and that I am stolen and suffering... they don't care. The ECSPCA where I was adopted from... they know that I am stolen and suffering... they don't care. I have been licensed to my Dad for 11 years. He has 100 + pages of vet records for me. If I was a car, Buffalo Police would make an arrest if they knew who stole me, so why won't they do that when I am a dog in danger? Someone once told me that the only thing the system cares about less than terrier type dogs are the black men that own them. But anyway. It gets worse. Way worse.

My Dad hired a lawyer who did everything right. He actually works with you guys and always fights for the animals. On Thursday, he got a Court Order from an Erie County Supreme Court Judge directing me to be returned immediately to my Dad AND for the Buffalo Police Department to assist and ensure that I am returned.

Finally, this nightmare is over, right?? NO!!! The Buffalo Police Department said they were NOT going to follow the Court Order. How can they do this? If you break a Court Order, you go to jail... why are they above the law?? Why wouldn't they want to save me? I don't know, but my lawyer says he will continue to fight. Please help us. PLEASE SHARE and call the Buffalo Police Department, B District at 716-851-4403 and ask them to save me. My life and my Dad's heart depends on it.

Meet Kai, a lovable, energetic large mix with a heart of gold. This pup is a super-intelligent homebody that is very loyal to his family. This is a gentle pooch that is easy to please, plus he has a fun-loving attitude and has hardworking stamina.

This affectionate pup adores attention, praises, walks, runs, playtime and loves riding in the car. Kai's loyal nature shines bright, he has been working hard on over coming separation anxiety and has come a long way. He is looking for a family that will keep up his training.

Kai loves his chew Benebone Wishbone durable bacon flavored chew bone and must have chew toys to keep him entertained. He also loves tough squeaky toys and his tug a war rope tire.

Kai loves to play fetch and needs a fenced in back yard or large yard to play fetch and ball. He is an avid jumper so no small fences.

Kai is good at listening and walking on a leash, he also knows his commands, sit, stay, paw, down and bowl as he is trained to eat in his crate.

Kai attends daycare 1 day a week and does well with all the dogs. Meet and Greets with resident dog will be required.

Due to Kai's size and hubris energy, older children are recommended.

Thank you to the wonderful Liz Kowaluk for the amazing photos.

Interested in making Kai a part of your family? Apply today!

🐾Next Purposeful Pack Walk Session Details🐾

Please read entire post😉

These pack walks have a purpose and are a great way to build your dog’s skills in new environments and around other dogs. They are also a great way to provide exercise and socialization in a contact-free, safe way.

The thing about socialization is that it isn’t about your dog greeting every person and dog. Socialization is about your dog learning how to choose calm behaviors, and feel relaxed in all situations. Controlled pack walks are a wonderful way to work on these skills.

This is a four week class and the dates are:
1) 5/20
✳️No class on 5/27 but there will be a fundraiser pack walk for the holiday!
2) 6/3
3) 6/10
4) 6/17
*In case of a very harsh weather cancellation, make up class will be on 6/24

Time: 6:30pm

Cost:
🟢$103.75 for credit card payments.
🟢$100.00 for cash or check payments.

These walks will happen rain or shine!! The classes will take place on the east side in different locations each week depending on how the class does the week before.

‼️Pack Walk Rules‼️

🦴NO ON LEASH GREETINGS-it is a true skill for dogs to learn how to remain calm while on leash in the same environment as another dog without having to greet.
🦴Bring a food pouch and lots of food rewards!
🦴Six foot leash, NO retractable leashes please.
🦴Please have your dog wear a collar with identification on it.
🦴Dogs should have basic manners and leash skills.
🦴If your dog needs extra space please have your dog wear a red bandana or red fabric attached to the leash. This will let others know to give you and your dog the necessary space. I will also have red fabric available.

🛑This class IS NOT a reactive dog class. Think of it as a class that dogs who had reactivity, worked to get into. Inquire about private instruction for help with this issue☺️

Join Heather of Calm Life Canine and Katie (me!) of Kate’s K9’s as we team up once again to tag teach a Canine Good Citizen (CGC) and Therapy Dog Class! Is your dog ready to earn their CGC title, or do they already have it and are looking to get their therapy dog certification? Or are you looking to do both? Whatever your goal, this four week class is for you!

Dates:
1. Sunday, July 7th
2. Sunday, July 14th
3. Sunday, July 21st
4. Sunday, July 28th

Time: 10:00am

Cost: $180

* Class size is limited! Minimum of 6 to hold class😊 Your spot is reserved after proof of vaccines and payment are received.

For more information or to sign up call Katie at (585) 727-3751

🛑🛑 We do need to be clear that this is NOT a class to work on reactivity. If your dog barks and lunges (no matter from excitement) that is an indication that your dog is not ready for a Canine Good Citizen Class. This class is a a four week class. Three weeks are to work on the specific items needed to pass the CGC and/or Therapy Dog test(s), the fourth and final class is for testing.

Barking and lunging at other dogs is reactivity that needs to be worked through outside of a class setting and requires a lot more attention and work that would take away from the other students and dogs in class.

This class is a phenomenal goal to work towards and if that is your goal but your dog is struggling, please reach out to Katie or I and we would love to help you reach that goal.

Thanks so much for your understanding😊

18/03/2024

Calm Life Canine and I have had a lot of interest in this class and we are currently going through our calendars to hash out the dates for the next class. We are shooting for late July, early August.

This is a prep class consisting of 3 practice sessions in which we go over and work on the specific items contained in both the CGC, and Therapy Dog tests and the 4th class being the actual tests.

We need a minimum of 6 teams, and payment will reserve your spot so be on the lookout for when we release the dates.

Things To Think About Before Signing Up:
1) Your dog should already have basic obedience and manners on board. This class will hone those skills and prepare you and your dog for the items needed to pass both tests.

2) If your dog needs time to “bark it out”, your dog is not ready for this class.

3) If your dog pulls and barks at the other dogs and you use the phrase “he/she is just excited but once he/she gets to meet the other dog they are fine”. Your dog is not ready for this class.

We ask that you please be honest with yourselves and honor where your dog is in its learning journey. If you are struggling with any of the above, Heather and I are both able to work with you privately to help you tackle those issues with a goal of being able to attend this class in the future. A dismissal from class will not allow for reimbursement or a roll over into another class.

Reach out if you have any questions! We look forward to seeing our next CGC/Therapy Dog group!!

‼️If you are not sure where your dog is, and want to get some work in around a group of dogs, I highly recommend getting into one of Calm Life Canine’s Purposeful Pack Walks-next session info will be posted on CLC’s page later this week‼️
