By the way the cat acted with my attempts to get a rope in the tree, I knew that the cat would not be easy to rescue. I had to resort to either scaring it down (accidentally), using my long grab pole or trapping it. It required trapping. He jumped over my trap once but on the second attempt I was able to trap it successfully. This kitty was more a wild animal than a socialized domestic kitty. Still loved by its community, he was rescued and released.
