Snow Day cuddles with Ms. Sally the other day who is very grateful she is no longer living outside.
Sally is in foster and waiting for her forever home. She's a great cat who will fit into any situation when given time to adjust.

From receiving an email needing help about a stray dog constantly fighting with another dog for his food because he was in survival mode, to meeting him and seeing that he had been living under an abandoned shack for months, to a 4 hour rescue of trying to get him leashed (but as sweet as he was he was too scared to have a leash put around his neck), to calling in backup for a trapper, to her working her magic and getting a leash on him the 5 mins she was there while the trap was being set up, to him going into total panic mode and almost passing out from fright, to the back of my car, to the rescue, to the next year of vet appts, heartworm treatment, adoption events and then finally...TO HIS FOREVER HOME!

That's right! DUKE HAS BEEN ADOPTED! It's been over a year since we took him in and he finally found his people and a spot on the couch he so deserves! He's a one in a million boy and they are all so lucky to have found each other.

Our hearts are so happy! 🥰

Xylitol can be found in a lot of products and it's now being labeled as Birch Sugar because it's extracted from Birch bark. It's toxic to dogs, cats and ferrets. Check your peanut butter ingredients before you give your animals any and if they get into something they shouldn't have, read the ingredients to know if you should get them to the vet right away!

The mushroom kids are growing...fast! So we are in need of canned kitten food. Currently they're eating Purina Fancy Feast kitten and we'd like to keep it consistent (if possible) so their bellies don't get upset.
It's a kittens life and there is no time for weight check ins when there's playing to be done!

Pet Supplies Plus in Conway held a contest with their employees to see who could get the most donations from our Angel Tree and Sonya took the win! She even donated the dog crate and other items herself! ❤️

It's National Motivation and Inspiration Day and there's nothing more inspiring than a smiling dog!
Meet Joy! A happy little terrier mix estimated to be between 2-3 years old. She LOVES people, she is just the sweetest girl and doesn't know a stranger. She's good with cats, but doesn't seem to be fond of other dogs right now. It's stressful being the new kid, so we'll see if things change when she can be socialized more with the other dogs. Joy is now UTD on her shots, microchipped, HW negative and will be ready for adoption after Jan 8th once she is spayed.

UPDATE 1/3: YODA HAS BEEN FOUND- THANK YOU!!

📣Breaking News!📣

Yoda has escaped from home in Surfside this morning and was last spotted near Market Commons. Yoda is friendly, but extremely skittish! Please do NOT chase him.

Temps are dropping this week and we are anxiously searching for him to safely bring him home. He is microchipped, so loved and we will pick him up ASAP if caught.

Happy 2025!

Want to do more to help your community and/or animals in need in 2025? Here are some ideas!

•Volunteer Your Time: Volunteering at your local shelter or rescue has so many benefits for you and the animals!
•Spread the Word on Social: Follow your local shelter or rescue on social media and help promote adoptable pets, events, stories, fundraisers, etc!
•Get Crafty with Service Projects: If you like sewing and baking, consider making blankets, beds, treats, rope toys. Check out Google or Pinterest for ideas.
•Donate Towels and Blankets: shelters especially go through a lot of linens. Give your linen closet a good cleaning and donate any unwanted items.
•Attend a Fundraiser for the Animals: Fundraisers aren't successful without the communities support!
•Match Your Monetary Donations: Donating money to your favorite rescue or shelter? Corporate Donations are a great way to double your gift. Check with your employer to see if they will match your donation!
•Forego the Birthday & Holiday Gifts: Instead of you or your kids getting more unneeded gifts, ask for donations to be made to or run your own fundraiser for your favorite rescue or shelter.
•Foster a Dog or Cat: Fostering saves lives, not just the life of the animal you're fostering but of the other animal that now can be saved because a kennel opened up.

This is one of those nights when many pets go missing. Please keep yours safe!
Some tips:
Blast the TV or radio tonight to drown out fireworks
Make sure all gates are shut and locked
Get outside cats inside
Crate dogs or put them in a closet or the bathroom with a radio on
Make sure everyone in the house knows to not go in and out the doors, especially while fireworks are going off.

Miss Lucy has been ADOPTED!

One of our long time volunteers decided to bring Lucy home to give her a chance to see how'd she do. Well she settled in quite nicely and now she's made herself a new home!

Lucy came to us last winter after her 2nd owners adopted her from a clear the shelter event at Horry County Animal Care Center. They were moving and unable to take her with them, Lucy was a fence jumper and they had lived next to a farm who were ok with her having free roam. Their new place was next to a busy road and they knew it would not be good. They were friends with our late director so when they reached out to us we knew we had to help. When they surrendered her they showed us her kennel card from HCACC and turns out she was originally surrendered there at 7 yrs old to be euthanized. Instead, HCACC gave Lucy a 2nd chance that then turned into a 3rd chance for her.

Life works in crazy ways and someone's been looking out for this girl to make sure she made it to her final home. As you can see, she's happy! She loves her new sister, she hoards her toys and blankets in her crate, she gets daily walks, she cuddles on the couch and dare I say she isn't interested in jumping the fence!

We are soooo happy for Lucy and her new family!

Meet the mushroom family! Mush, Lion's Mane, Porcini, Shiitake, Portobello, Button (the runt of course) and Truffle.
Mush and her kids came in the beginning of Dec when they were just about a week old. After some panicked planning and cleaning, we got them set up in their own room in a kitty condo where she could quietly nurse. Week by week the kittens grew and thankfully Button, who we were worried about, grew along with them. We've been working on cleaning out and cleaning up another room to set them up in for their next stage in life.
They hit their 4 week mark and so it was time for them to start weaning. We introduce formula and food mixed, some took to it right away, but not all. Finally, Truffle who literally had to be fed with your fingers, took to the dish like everyone else and so all have been moved into their new digs! Momma Mush can now get into higher places to take a baby break and the babies can stretch their legs and work their muscles by playing and running around the room. Litter box training is still in the works, but they're learning.

An ENORMOUS thank you to those of you who have stepped up to care for Mush and the kids. Especially, our volunteers who took on a new task with open hearts. You've all donated money, food, formula, time and most importantly love. The whole family is well socialized and the kids love to cuddle! They will all make amazing fur babies to someone in the near future.

We received an email that this dog is still missing, since November. They recently got a text that she's been spotted, but the person is not replying to where she was last seen. She is a service dog for her mom and obviously deeply missed. Jen Jen's microchipped, so if you think you've seen her or found her, please contact them and have her scanned to help get her home!
