MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE! Have a Safe and Happy New Year. Please remember to fill a bucket, not a small bowl, of fresh cold water for your dog before you leave the house, & place it in an area that's shaded throughout the day. And always feel the ground before venturing out for a dog walk. If it's hot, don't go. Prevent burns to your dog's paws and wait for a cooler time.

Candy De Boer helped us and the animals of Broome/Derby out immensely, often taking on animals that needed to get better or old enough before flying down to Perth.
Sadly a few weeks ago, Candy passed away unexpectantly at the young age of 38, which we were all very shocked and saddened to hear.
At the time she was looking after quite a few cats who were destined to be flown down from Broome to find their homes in Perth.
Now the cats that were with Candy need to come down to Perth very soon, so we are looking to raise funds for their flights.
We also have to pay boarding for other cats before we can get them on a flight at times.
We try to help as many animals as we can from Broome/Derby along with our friends in Broome. We know it is a hard time of the year, but every bit counts if you feel you could donate towards our transport and boarding fees

2022 Marks a special milestone for Hudson Hounds. Ten years in business, providing TLC to treasured fur family members.

A BIG THANK YOU! To each and every one of my lovely clients over the years, for your loyalty and repeat business. I endeavour to provide the best care possible for my extended fur family, who find themselves in need of a caring companion while their owners are away.

The hardest part of my work is falling in-love with our four-legged friends, then having to say goodbye, when a higher power beckons them over the Rainbow Bridge...

Hi, if you're interested in helping your fur buddy deal with your absence while you're at work, I can help by taking him or her for a walk during the day, or you may like to drop them off to my house for day-care where they will be cared for attentively and taken for a half hour walk during the day. Please do your due diligence when you're looking for a pet minder/carer. You have every right to ask for recommendations from people who have used a pet minders service before or verification from animal organisations who know the pet minder and their actions and attitudes to pets, prior to becoming a pet minder! your pets are your life, and you as a caring pet owner need to know your pet will be given the highest of care and TLC, while you are away. Don't be afraid to ask for detailed answers to any questions you would like to know about their care.

I just posted some pics taken over the past couple of months out'n'about with my Canine friends. So many dogs have been welcomed into peoples' homes over the past year, and many of you are now back at full-time work, whether that's at home or at the office, so if you are struggling for time to exercise your dog, I can help. If you live within 5kms of Warwick, it's only $25 for a half hour walk and your dog will thank you! Pet Nutrition, in my opinion is an area we need to understand alot better! As humans, we are what we eat, and this applies to our pets too, which means it's up to US to research and understand what goes into their food we conveniently buy in biscuit form.

Do you know who makes what? You might be very surprised! For example Colgate Palmolive makes Hills!

It's been 5 years, so here's the 2019 reference chart to see what has changed since the last survey in 2014.

One thing that hasn’t changed is that each of them is predominantly low quality ingredients, fillers (zero nutritional value!), plant protein - not a high-quality animal protein as they need), and a LOT of chemicals!

How can I make my senior pet more comfortable?
There are plenty of ways to manage your pet’s aging, and these tips are very easy to implement:

Talk to your vet about your pet’s diet – they may need more nutritious food for nurturing specific conditions and even the inclusion of dietary supplements.
Let your senior pet sleep inside in winter – keeping them comfy and warm will keep them feeling safe and secure, as well as help to alleviate any arthritis symptoms.
Provide them with soft and easily accessible (not too high or low) bedding.
Add extra water bowls around the house (and closer to their bed area) so they do not need to move around unnecessarily.
Raise food and water bowls to prevent your pet needing to hunch to access the contents.
Offer extra litter trays or make sure their toileting area is easily accessible.
Keep your senior pet active with simple, low impact activities and exercises.
Keep an eye on the temperature. As pets age they may struggle with regulating their body temperature – in winter keep your pet indoors where possible, move their bedding inside and investigate pet jackets or jumpers for some breeds.

Toby and I have enjoyed each other's company on a weekly basis at Hudson Hounds Day-care, since he was 6 months old, and a few years on, we had a welcome addition with his adopted brother, Hamish. Their owner told me she only has to mention the word 'doggy day-care' and they eagerly race to the window to wait for my SUV to pull up in their driveway.
The dogs have come to expect a quick stop at the pet store for a treat, on the way to explore a favorite park of ours, and sometimes we venture further afield for a change of scene. Toby loves catching up with his girlfriend, Female Labrador, Charlie, when she visits. A 'partner in crime' when it comes to digging the deepest hole! A strong bond has developed between the two of them since they met at Hudson Hounds. Afternoons are spent meandering around the large back yard and catching some zd's on a comfy dog bed. Sometimes they'll enjoy a special cooked dinner, other times its dog biscuits as usual, before it's time for a snooze in the back seat of the SUV as we make the drive home again.
Building an ongoing strong relationship with my clients (both Human and Canine) makes my job as a pet minder/dog walker so rewarding... and each tail wag and gentle lick on the arm tells me I'm providing a much appreciated service!
