Weimaraner Association Of Canada - Rescue WAC Rescue is a branch of the Canada's national breed club. It's run by volunteers and covers the entire country via Regional Coordinators.

We don't have a physical space so we rely on fosters to house dogs waiting for a new home. The Weimaraner Association of Canada - Rescue is a volunteer organization that is run by our Members. The Weimaraner Association of Canada is the Official National Breed Club for the Weimaraner in Canada. The Weimaraner Association had their first meeting on May 18, 1971, at the home of Isabelle and Armand K

irby in Scarboro, ON. The immediately worked towards club recognitions with the CKC. In 1977 the CKC made the club official. The club continued to grow, and today it is truly a National club with representation across the country. The primary functions of the club are to:
*assist and encourage owners in training their dogs in the many and varied venues that the Weimaraner can participate.
*to encourage using the Weimaraner for his natural purpose in the field.
*to improve the quality of the Weimaraner, physically and mentally through education and selective breeding practices.
*to assist Weimaraners in dire need through WAC Rescue. To this end, the Weimaraner Association of Canada has programs in place and hosts many events annually. These programs and events are most often specific to the Weimaraner and there are a few that are limited to members only. Please take the time to browse through our website to learn more about our wonderful breed and the things they can do! www.weims.ca

Rowan, through no fault of his own, is not being adopted by his foster family.

Apparently he is nervous around their other Weimaraner and, as soon as she comes into the space, he stops what he’s doing and moves out of her way. They've been working with both dogs but he’s still anxious. He also may have a food allergy causing ear infections and loose stool. This can be expensive to figure out and the family is not in a position to deal with this in the long term.

So, Rowan is available for adoption!

Rowan is around 18 months old and is neutered. He's currently in the Chilliwack, BC area but we can manage transport if necessary. His foster is open to chatting with potential adopters and meeting them as well.

Here is what she has to say about Rowan:
He is great with other dogs, wants to play but is respectful of their signs to leave them alone. Gets along with all dogs we’ve met at the dog park and on the trails.
He has AMAZING recall. You say “here” and he comes right back looking for his treat. He doesn’t go too far in front of you.
He is very food motivated and eager to please and learn new things.
He is good with children (9 year olds) and new people. Last week, while camping, he was tied to a picnic table in the shade while we were in pool. All ages of people walking by him and he just watched them. Strangers (adults and kids) could pet him and he was good.
He travels well in the car. Goes in his crate and is quiet. He also tethers well in a car.
He doesn’t chew on things, not destructive at all.
In the house he doesn’t like his crate. He wants to be in the same room as his people. If left home alone in his crate, he paces and barks non stop. He also has a hard toime settling in his crate at night. Or he'll go in for a few hours and then wake up in middle of night and won’t settle and barks. He will eat his food in his crate.
He can be left loose in the house while we are gone and just sleeps. I’d say 3 hours tops for this as any longer and he may start barking or may p*e in the house.
He needs a good run in the morning, usually a 50-60 minute easy off-leash hike and he sleeps the rest of morning. A leashed walk doesn’t burn as much energy for him. Then an afternoon / evening leashed walk or dog park is good.
He will chase rabbits, those are his favourite. He will fixate on them and continue to look for them if they've been removed from his sight - the foster family visited a home with a rabbit in a cage in the house. Rowan was totally enthralled and was vibrating, watching it. Even when the rabbit and cage were removed from his sight, he continued pacing the room, looking for it.

He likes water and will go into a river or lake up to about 6-8”. He doesn’t go any further and doesn’t like to retrieve anything from the water.
He stands when being bathed at Bosleys and lets you cut his nails.
I’m not sure how he is with cats in the house. The lady who had him in Grand Forks for 2 nights had cats and she said he was curious about them but didn’t chase them.

We're looking for an active home that has the time, energy and patience to continue with Rowan's training.

If interested in Rowan, please submit an adoption application (found on the website wacrescue.com) and we'll contact you asap.

Simon is still looking for his forever home in QC.

This is not a WAC Rescue dog.

Available for Adoption or Foster to Adopt in Calgary Alberta

Look into those eyes and just try not to fall in love! Meet Ollie, a handsome 9 year old boy who has flown all the way from China to live out the rest of his years in Canada. This sweet-natured 9 year old suffers from hip dysplasia and had to lose a lot of weight in order to make the flight. He is calm and gentle but will defend against any intruder who rings the doorbell. Ollie would do best in a quieter home where he can live a more sedentary life until he regains his strength. He could be a great match for an owner who might not want to undertake the chaos of this ordinarily highly active breed. He is keen to learn, and will use any opportunity to help you clean the counters. Ollie is kennel trained and his kennel will go with him to his new home. When in good shape, he enjoys hiking, fetch, car rides and the water. He gets along with other dogs and is respectful of cats and young babies. We are looking for an adult only family or one with mature children who will respect his limits. He does not have experience with young children.

Panzer on his walk this morning.

Still looking for a foster/foster to adopt home!

I forgot to mention this in previous posts because he’s so rambunctious that’s what I remember. But, if we’re working from home, he’s pretty quick to settle into a favourite nap spot and snooze the day away.

Available for ADOPTION/ Foster to Adopt/ Foster
We are looking for a forever/foster-to-adopt home for Panzer who is currently in Calgary AB. We'll accept applications from across Canada but interested applicants will have to meet Panzer in person before adopting him.

Also, if you’re in Calgary and want to help with Panzer’s “human socialization”, we’d be happy for you to come visit Panzer. Send me a message.

Panzer was dropped off at the Brandon, Manitoba shelter late last year and made his way to Calgary Alberta. He's a 2-year old neutered weim with great enthusiasm for the world. He knows some commands, especially sit, and is making progress with lay down and stay. He "usually" listens well. His leash walking has improved a lot since his training started in January. He love playing tug and fetch, mostly in the house but we have had him play fetch with a stick outside a few times now. He is also a big nooker and snuggler. If you sit down, he'll immediately try to be on top of you. Unless it's play time. 🙂

He is highly food-motivated, which makes him very trainable, but he can also be easily distracted when there is something new to see or chase.

Panzer prefers women initially, but once he has learned to trust men in the home, he seeks them out for as much fetch as they can stand. And then some! Panzer would benefit from an assertive leader who can continue to develop his leash manners and carefully socialize him and help him burn off some of his high energy. A large fenced space would be his idea of happiness! Although he is familiar with a crate, currently he only goes into the crate for meals. We're working up to him spending more time in the crate but it's not a high priority at the moment.

Panzer is housebroken and is good indicating when he needs to go out. Aside from the breed-typical counter-surfing, Panzer will generally just curl up and guard the home from letter carriers and other threats. Panzer does have a birth defect in his front leg and paw which makes him more sensitive to extreme cold, but you won't see it slow him down much. Just try to keep up!

Panzer's high energy, feisty spirit, and overall lack of training make him a better fit for a breed-experienced household. Preferably one with either no small children or children over 12. To the best of our knowledge, Panzer has not been around cats and so we're also looking for a cat-free home. Because of his reactivity to other dogs on our leash walks, we haven't introduced him to another dog yet so we aren't sure how he'd be with one in the home. We hope to do a controlled dog meet with his trainer soon.

The perfect home would be a relatively quiet environment with active people who have the time and patience to deal with a puppy in a dog's body.

If you're interested in learning more about Panzer or think you would be a good home for him, contact us at [email protected] and submit an adoption or foster application on our website, wacrescue.com.

We have transport this Friday (19 April) from Osoyoos to Chilliwack, leaving at noon. Is anyone available to bring Ronin from South Slocan to Osoyoos Friday morning?

Looking for Transport Volunteers for Ronin.

We're looking to get Ronin from the kennel in South Slocan area area to his, hopefully, forever home in Chilliwack.

Dates that currently work for the adopter to meet part way (Osoyoos, Princeton or in between) are April 17, 19, 22 through 26.

If you're available to help with Ronin's transport, please message us or send an email to [email protected] and [email protected].

Gas expenses for transport will be reimbursed.

Thank you!!

People in the Castlegar BC vicinity (or between Castlegar and Chilliwack), we’re looking for a short term foster for Ronin. We have a potential adopter lined up but it’ll be a few weeks before they can make it for a visit and it’d be great to get him out of the kennel.

All expenses will be covered while Ronin is in foster care.

A home with another dog is okay. And no children or older (bigger) children is preferred as he is still young and boisterous!

If interested, feel free to ask questions here or email [email protected] or submit a foster application at the bottom of the page here: https://wacrescue.com/volunteer/

06/04/2024

As promised, we have more information about Ronin and we are now looking for his forever family. Ronin's best family must have the time, energy, patience and resources to deal with a young pup and to continue Ronin's training to help him be the best dog possible.

Ronin is currently in the Castlegar BC area.

Ronin is a typical year-old puppy going through the classic “dinosaur phase” of his adolescence. He is high-energy, eager to please, food-driven and ready for new adventures every day!

Ronin would be most successful in a breed-familiar home and could, with training, make an exceptional hunting dog for the right family. He would love long hikes or trail rides through wild terrain. Because he has more energy than manners, he will do best in a family with older or no children, where his people understand that mouthing is not a sign of aggression, but rather too much pent-up energy leaking out of his face. He has excellent recall, walks well on lead (with a halti), doesn’t bark excessively or dig up the yard, and would do really well in a fenced yard or run when he isn’t out burning off a lot of energy. His manners with other dogs are good, and he respects their cues, so a dog companion, especially another active one, would be welcome. With exposure and guidance, he could be excellent!

Ronin is accustomed to sleeping in his crate and will certainly benefit from maturity to learn to chill out when he isn’t out discovering. A solid 62 lbs at one year, this dog will thrive with an active family who understand that life is best lived outdoors. Ronin is neutered, but is such a happy fellow that he currently has a tail injury (“happy tail”) and is on medication to help him focus his canine-ADHD towards learning how to be his very best self (around $40-50/month; unlikely to be a permanent requirement).

Ronin has been in boarding while undergoing training. The kennel owner, Kornelia, has this to say about Ronin:
He is nondestructive, doesn't dig to get out of his area, watches the world quietly, and is playful. He is just a big happy puppy with a lot of energy.

And his trainer, Nicole, says:
Ronin is definitely high energy but also a really lovely guy with a heart of gold.

If you would like to be considered for Ronin's family, please send in a completed adoption application which can be found here:

Thank you to everyone for responding/sharing. Well be putting Beck, now called Ronin, in to board and train.

Urgent (British Columbia)
We are looking for a foster in BC for Beck, a 13 month old, unneutered Weim. He is not fully house trained, not fully leash trained, has a high prey drive, and is very exuberant ("wild" in the words of his current foster).

One of the first things on the agenda would be neuter surgery.

He is currently in Nelson BC.

WAC Rescue will cover all expenses while the dog is in foster care.

NO small children and NO small pets. Must have the patience, energy and time to work with him. This fostering may be a temporary measure as we are looking at "Board and Train" options.

Please submit a Foster Volunteer Application (https://wacrescue.com/volunteer/)

When you finally welcome your 8 week old puppies, please keep this picture in mind. Their bones aren’t even touching yet. They walk so beautifully with big, flexible legs and bench movements because their joints are made up entirely of cartilage, muscles, tendons and ligaments covered with skin. Nothing is well adjusted or has real grip yet.

When you make them run excessively or don't limit their exercise to prevent them from overdoing during that time, you're not giving them the chance to grow properly. Every big jump or bounce and excited run creates bone-breaking impacts.
In reasonable quantities, this is not problematic and normal wear and tear will do.

But when you let the puppy jump off the couch or bed, take him for long walks, you damage this joint in training. When you let the puppy move on slippery tiles, you damage the joint.

You only get once to make them grow up. A well built body is something that comes from excellent upbringing and good education. BOTH , not just one

Once you’re an adult, you’ll have the rest of your life to spend playing and engaging in high-impact exercises. So keep him calm while he is still young and give him the gift that can only be given once.

Looking for foster or foster to adopt for Beck, a 13 month old male Weim in the Penticton BC area.

He’s getting neutered this week and sounds like a typical young Weim with lots of energy. He chases deer so he may also chase smaller animals like cats. He knows basic commands but is not great walking on a leash so he’ll need some work. He apparently gets along with kids and dogs but because he has so much energy, small kids and older / quieter dogs may find him a bit much.

If you’re interested in Beck, please contact Shirley at [email protected].
