Sweet Marley injured her back right leg on Saturday. She seemed to be in a lot of pain because she was shaking like a leaf, not walking, and not sleeping. We don’t know what kind of injury this is. The emergency vet prescribed anti-inflammatories, pain medication, and a sedative/anxiety medication. We’re going to take her to our regular vet in four days for X-rays if she doesn’t improve.

In honour of  and my Marley 🐶, I have donated $200 to the Beagle Freedom Project (BFP), a non-profit animal rescue and advocacy organization that rescues and rehomes animals used in experimental research. BFP frees animals from captivity, cruelty, abuse, and exploitation. Since 2010, this charity has been freeing survivors from laboratory experiments, senior and special needs animals from shelters, and victims of horrific abuse from around the world.

Marley’s diet has been going so well! 🐶Since October 14, 2021, she’s lost 6 pounds. It’s been a combination of:

1. Regular walks: I walk her for at least 20 mins everyday.
2. Food change: I switched her food to Royal Canin Satiety Support.
3. Food portioning: I portion out her food everyday so she is not overfed—she gets 1/2 cup twice a day.
4. Healthy snacks: I only feed her vegetables for snacks

I’ve also been refraining from giving her food when she begs and making sure everyone in my household is on the same page with the restrictions.

I know getting a beagle to lose weight is extremely difficult. They’re always hungry and they gain weight very easily. However, if your dog loses their extra weight, I assure you it will greatly improve their quality of life. Marley has more energy now and her leg doesn’t seem to be bothering her as much. A lot of the changes I implemented were suggested to me in the “Canadian Beagle” Facebook group.

I’ll be posting the before and after photos when she gets to her goal weight 🙌🏻❤️

Meet My Dog Challenge:

My name is: Marley
My nicknames: Marsbar, Mars, Boo-boo, Princess Marley
My age is: 6 years old!
My favorite food: Everything, but especially real chicken, sausage, and turkey meat, and Zoe Dental Sticks
My biggest fear: any inanimate object, especially the vacuum cleaner (big and small vacuum), broom, Roomba, and fan
My favorite thing to do: playing fetch and ‘find it’, being chased, receiving belly rubs, greeting mom and dad at the door when I haven’t seen them all day, cuddling on the couch, and eating of course!
Do I love Car rides? No, I hate them. I have anxiety and car rides scare me.
Where do I sleep? I have a bed in the office and in two of the bedrooms, but my favourite places to sleep are in my cozy crate, on the couch, and on my humans’ beds.
Do I snore? Of course.
My breed: Beagle
What am I named after: inspirations for my name are Bob Marley and the movie ‘Marley and Me’.

Marley is a timid dog, but so very friendly and gentle to everyone. She loves being around people and doesn’t like to be home alone for too long. She’s smart, feisty, and stubborn, and her beautiful eyes and face can make the coldest person’s heart melt.
