Thought it might be fun for others to see the growth on one of our top endurance horses. This hoof was trimmed 3 wks ago. 2 wks ago he did a 50 mile race barefoot, came in 2nd and got best condition. Amazing how much a hoof can grow in just 3 wks. A balanced trim with lots of movement helps

Love composites? Just can’t keep them on their feet? Hate using bell boots? We’ve been glueing shoes /boots for 20+ years. Racing 100 -250 mile endurance races, we can’t afford to lose shoes. Years of mistakes have given us the edge. Need help? We are happy to help

Before and after on a blind pony, hind hoof. hinds are so much easier to change quickly. will go back in 2 wks to adjust more.

Not the best picture, but clearly shows how with a couple of rasp swipes you can bring the heels back. This allows the heels to grow more vertical instead of running forward. Seems counter productive, but it works. Then when adding a heel lift, the heel grow vertical instead of continuing to run forward.

Glueing for a 100 mile race. We glued 4 horses last Thurs. Jessie's husband , John, showing us how it's done. Sunday, Jessie ,on Sterlings Star Strider won, Wendy on FT Firestorm ,2nd and BC. Barefoot horses rule. Boots/ shoes will be taken off today.

Not a joke...

Have you ever wondered why you can have a 15 acre field and part of it is chewed down to nubs and the other part has grass a hand high, But your horse is constantly grazing in the chewed down part?

Grass 6 inches and taller has less sugars than grass under 6 inches.

For every inch drop below 6 inches, the fructan (sugar) content rises.

Grass under 6 inches is stressed like it's a Monday morning with a project deadline. It uses sugar to repair itself.

Stop mowing your fields short.

Stop grazing your chubbys on chewed down grass. (this is why grazing muzzles are so touted...they keep the horse from being able to get much short grass)

(We aren't saying let your fields be 3 feet tall, by the way. The optimal thing to do is keep them 6-8 inches tall and graze them in small areas there)
