Dog training or date night? 🌝🌹
As handsome as Beau might be this was taken during his night training, a specifically planned approach to address his edginess during the evening hours which is affecting his parents’ night walks. Sometimes we encounter dogs that experience heavy stress in the evenings. To compensate for dog’s underdeveloped eyes their hearing is stellar, and sometimes that combo on a city night can be overwhelming. Beau cannot tell who is approaching and can be suspicious of their intention, yet the delivery bike zipping over from two blocks away is deafening. He ends up on the defense which results in barking and lunging one moment, then attempting the sprint back home the next.
Training in his environment during these times are ideal so that we can generalize his basic commands and work on the “puppy parkour” that you see before you. Building confidence in dogs requires physical feats and walking the jetty in Greenpoint has been a way to counter condition Beau’s feelings about night. Rather than being scared we are having fun and lightening his mood. Basic commands also help him to understand that we don’t need to act any differently at different times of the day! The fun photos and surprise time visit from Natasha are just a bonus.
