Who are my customers?
I am looking for people who are wanting the breed for the reason it was made by nature. Families who want a calm bigger then an average dog who also want to keep their homes safe.People, who will Include the dog in their home life, being part of their activities but are still educated enough to know that if they have a playdate for kids in-house or BBQ with guests then dog should be locked up. I always hope to place dogs into homes with people who can help them be better guard dog not polar bear social butterfly for every stranger.
There is so much cross breeding and Bullsht that you have to trust your breeder and you to have to do lot of homework to get a true cas
I dont know if it will get better with breed situation all over the world, not just USA, I am now seeing diseases in the breed becoming common that never existed before. They were common in the breeds people are mixing in, and lying about now.
True CAS often don't fit well in metropolitan areas. It’s a perfect breed for a very small population of people. Its narrow market,so if you plan to be a breeder be ready to struggle to sell pups to fit homes and then take them back if people failed the dog.
I have a fear they will disappear like other breeds who were simply forgotten, became not fashionabel. They may still be here in name, but they will be no more CAS then the great dane is a boar hunter, or bullmastiff is a guard,or yorkie is a rat hunter. Or even the English mastiff who once was a dog of War who faced men with weapons and shields to defend his land, and now is so heavy that a simple run around the show ring is exhausting and so timid and fearful many flee from any loud noise or conflict. Most cant even jump in a car…
Why do we see so many different Cas who look like different dogs in comparison to each other?
There really is a huge variation in the breed due to the number of backyard breeders popping around
Many breeders are watering CAS down to a shell of what they once were known. So much watered, so that they should be classified as an entirely different breed.
Typical well-bred CAS?
Most will be as sweet and gentle, laid back and soft as a purring cat but only... with you. With their family they re sweet. Their goal in life is to protect you. You have to be willing to be the lead and give them something to do. If not they take matters into their own paws and can become pushy, demanding and even aggressive. CAS want a strong leader like any big breed does. They need to be seen as partners in your every day life, if they do not respect you they will make their own choices of anyone they do not like.
The issue becomes when you forget that your cute cuddly fur baby who adores everything you do, and is perfect now wants to kill everyone that gets close and people let their guard down ,get hurt. There is a responsibility that comes with the breed.
