A heartfelt THANK YOU goes out to all the teams that attended the Bay Area Police K9 Bash!

The event started off with an outstanding legal update delivered by Nicole Pifari, partner at Rains, Lucia & Stern Law Firm. Nicole not only shared important case studies but also provided attendees with valuable insights into the current state of apprehension canines in the Bay Area.

Teams dedicated two full days to planning, de-escalating, and conquering complex scenarios, all under the supervision of experienced K9 handlers. Both the dogs and their handlers were pushed to new levels, tactically and under pressure. Each scenario featured professional and skilled decoys who truly tested the abilities of the dogs. We want to extend a special thank you to the decoys for their exceptional work, which was consistently praised by the attendees. Your artistry is truly appreciated.

Representatives from over 20 police departments participated in the event, and each team demonstrated their utmost dedication and openness to learning new material.

We would like to express our gratitude to everyone involved and convey our excitement for NEXT YEAR's event!

Welcome to San Pablo K-9 Riddik!!!!

Today was K-9 Riddik’s first day on patrol. He along with Ofc. Maravilla were happy to be here protecting our community and city. If you see them driving around make sure you wave and say hello. Ofc. Maravilla and K-9 Riddik just finished an 8 week long training and are all certified to work. Congratulations to both of them!!!

Today, the San Pablo Police Department purchased a great dual-purpose Police K9 from Spectrum Canine. This team is all set to embark in our intensive Patrol School, where they will be trained in both firearm detection and apprehension. We couldn't be more thrilled to welcome this incredible team, as we look forward to a successful partnership.

🇺🇸 POLICE K9 SHADOW PROGRAM 🇺🇸

Now for the second time, we are allowing students to shadow and learn how we train our Police k9s during our Handler’s Course. Shadow for a 2 week period and spectate our process in taking green dogs and morphing them into completely operational off leash searchers within a six week period.

The last group of shadow students gave great feedback and highly recommended the Shadow Program to all.

Isabel has been a huge part of our team for 3 years now, helping with pet dogs, police dogs, and training her own personal dog “Cora” in PSA. With her and Steve moving down south, we’re very excited to see them bring Spectrum Canine with them on their new journey in life.

Our Immersion Program dog of the week is “Blue” ⁣

“Blue” has been with us for about 8 weeks now, and today is her Go Home! 🎉 ⁣

Being such a young pup, our main goal was to create a solid foundation for her overall obedience to ensure her training continues after returning home. She has been in environments with high level distractions and has practiced her obedience around “free dogs.”⁣

A solid obedience foundation, while also building confidence through exposure and proper socialization are key to having a well trained puppy.

We have received quite a few calls this week regarding puppies and mouthing, so we think it’s a post worthy topic. ⁣
⁣
Age is not an excuse to let your young dog/puppy bite you and your clothes. The idea that this is “normal” or acceptable is ridiculous. We have had so many families reach us at a breaking point, about to get rid of their puppy because of this. The Youtube and Blog dog training gods say that they should just redirect their puppies. This is simply a bandage in that moment. No actual training is being done. The dog is going to continue that behavior a few minutes later. ⁣

Stop being afraid to correct a young dog. Let me be the first to tell you.⁣
⁣
Your puppy can understand and LEARN from a correction. ⁣
⁣
Stop living in a world of hell and considering getting rid of your puppy because it is biting you. It doesn’t need to be like this. ⁣

Well... I’ve been trying to avoid making this post for a while. It’s been a rough few days for the Spectrum Canine family. ⠀
⠀
Everyone knows that Spectrum Canine was created by 2 young dudes. Ricky and Steve. For a few years now we have been preparing for Steve’s departure. Steve has had the plan to leave Spectrum Canine in order to serve our great country in the United States Navy. Although this was planned, it has not been easy for anyone. Both Steve and I have a strong love for our country. I am so proud of him for leaving this perfect life to serve our country. It shows his persistence to strive for the next great thing. Everyone knows that Steve could have been extremely well off just sticking with the dogs. His passion and talent is unmatched. We have created a top program in a very short amount of time. ⠀

Spectrum Canine looks at this as a short hiatus. We look forward to Steve coming home and joining us again but until then we are extremely proud to have such a good person fighting for our Freedom.🇺🇸⠀
