War Dogs Remembered
WORLD WAR 2 🌺
Jet🐾
Jet was a fully black German Shepherd who was originally trained as an “anti-sabotage” dog. Essentially, he sniffed for bombs, preventing countless deaths before they occurred.

He eventually began search-and-rescue work for victims of the London Blitz air raids during World War II. Over the course of 11 hours, Jet’s team of fellow dogs rescued over 100 people in a single day when a hotel collapsed. Jet was personally responsible for 50 of those rescues. The human crew thought they had gotten everyone out, but Jet barked relentlessly to let them know that they had forgotten someone. It turns out that he was right. A woman who would have been left behind was rescued and survived, all because of Jet.

He was awarded the Dickin Medal in 1945, but his work wasn’t over yet. In 1947, he saved even more people after a building exploded in Liverpool. He was given the RSPCA Medallion of Valor. When he died, his body was buried in the Calderstones Park in Liverpool. Today, a memorial with an etching of his face still stands in his honour in the park as well as a small exhibit in his honour at the Liverpool Museum.

'Penny for the Guy?' We're not sure how many people will be making a 'Guy' tomorrow - but we thought we'd share this nostalgic picture, circa 1950, of Bonfire Night in simpler times 😊

I met this little dog today. She’s an extremely timid rescue from Italy and is completely gorgeous …. and completely shut down, bless her little heart 💕

She hasn’t really come out from her crate in the month she’s been here and will need a very careful and elongated rehabilitation plan in order to function in any meaningful way in the future.

If you know anybody who is pretty much house-bound, has a quiet home and would be willing to work with this lovely wee thing, please get in touch. She is looking for foster or adoption.

Living with another, gentle, older and chill dog would be helpful to build confidence and let her follow an example of interaction but may not be essential.

QUICK THINKING - Saving a dogs life

Well done to our Front of House Manager, Zoe.

A customer came in all of a panic looking for a taxi number as her dog had been stung by a jellyfish.

Zoe's quick thinking of giving the customers dog an antihistamine literally saved its life. Being unable to get a taxi quickly, the customer ran home with her dog and to the vets where they confirmed, Zoe's quick thinking did indeed save the dogs life.

Zoe was presented with flowers from the customer as no doubt her gratitude for saving her companion was immeasurable.

Well done Zoe... we're super proud of you!

So remember to carry some spare antihistamines when you're far from home and on the beach.
