Hello FTS 70ers

Trust you each are preparing for a GRAND Labor Day and building excitement for our 50 + 1 Reunion. I have received a few calls concerning whether we are still on track and the answer is ‘ALL SYSTEMS GO FOR OUR FTS 1970 REUNION’. Our Meet N Greet is from 7-10 Friday night, September 24, at the Cape Fear Botanical Garden. Optional golf captained by Greg Parks Saturday early (910-303-3107-let him know you want to play), Lunch with Mary Erwin and Hunter Olive at 12 Noon and then our Saturday night Gala at Highland Country Club from 6-11. Both nights are cash bar so bring some greenbacks!
The only thing that could curb our Reunion is if Governor Cooper invokes group setting restrictions!
The Planning Committee has been hard at work and looks forward to once again putting on an exciting and fun packed weekend. I ask each of you to hurry up and get that $35 per attendee fee in to Louine Clegg Holloway quickly—remember: the fee goes up to $45 beyond September 1st. We have two tours Saturday morning where you may have interest: Moira Kelly (262-679-6529) will lead a Ft Bragg tour if there is enough interest but please let her know soon if you want a guided Ft. Bragg outing early—also, Tina Royal will welcome mates for a school tour at 10 AM and we can see the many school changes.
BIG ITEM: I have been challenged by a classmate to build a fund where we give a sizable donation to FTS via Tom Hatch, Principal, Saturday night at our Gala. This mate will match whatever we can secure as a class between now and September 25. To this end I ask if you have the capability, please send me an affordable amount to Craig Chason, 563 N Palisades Circle SE, Marietta, Ga. 30067. Make checks Payable to FTS 1970 Reunion. I am personally kicking in a good amount and ask each of you to join my efforts. I welcome $20, $50, $100, $500 or whatever you feel appropriate. This is an exciting situation and one where the school is always in need of a fund to assist students in need or also provide funds in an area of need. Let’s get behind this effort and give what you can—Thanks in advance. This will be a complete surprise to Tom Hatch!!!
In closing—It is finally time for all of us to see each other and enjoy time together. September 24 will be here soon. I ask each of you to ensure you have taken all precautions to keep us all safe and healthy.

REUNION HERE WE COME!!! Booyah!

Here’s a bit of fun/foos for thought from our classmate Leslie!

In Praise of Whimsy
-- by Leslie Miklosy

I enjoy whimsy in wordplay. I like its humor, freedom, creativity, and flexibility. Other words for whimsy are playfulness and fancifulness. Related terms for whimsical are offbeat, quirky, off-the-wall, unconventional.

Whimsy gives permission to, invites, and replenishes those who engage in it. Think of it as recess in school, coffee break at work, intermission between life’s multiple acts.

The following are some examples from my recent book of original quotations, Out of My Mind: Quotations that Delight, Dazzle, and Confound.

(One caveat: Do not operate heavy machinery immediately after reading these.)

Dance with me
So I can show you the way
To get gloriously lost in the forest.

***

The spark of a near-miss
And the spark of a near-hit
Were once wed
And lived happily ever after.

***

When you’re in the air flying,
Questions of baggage
Are no longer relevant.

***

Toppling the teacher
Is an extracurricular activity.

***

Don’t look through the alphabet
For a drink of water.

***

Self-Effacers Anonymous

***

Without scarcity or lack,
We have nothing.

***

The object of this puzzle is for the pieces NOT to fit.

***

A thoughtless impulse
While out for a walk,
Met a deliberate effort
Through no fault of its own,
Or so the accident report
Stated.

***

Three hops and a skip
Took me way past my bedtime.

***

He’s become quite good at going out
And walking his doggone it!

***

Have you greeted your enemy today?

***

If your Mother Earth
Is round,
And spins,
And has much gravity,
Are not those qualities
To be found also
Somewhere in you?

If life seems a burden, maybe what you need is a daily dose of whimsy. It can lighten your journey … and put a smile on your face!

This is a neat article on how “vintage has been blended in with SAFE and new!” Maybe just maybe we will get to see the BULLDOGS play Sept 24? Who knows. Regardless we can still see the stadium when we tour good ole FHS/FTS??? Whatever we called it❤️
