LETS TALK SNOW PAW PRINTS
If you are out looking for tracks of your lost pet in snow here are some key tips.
When determining whether the tracks you find are domestic cat or dog you want to look at what I refer to as ridges. I often say 2 ridges is dog, 3 is cat. The actual terminology is you are looking at their metacarpal pad prints. I've included graphics so you can see what I am referring to.
Next do you see nail imprints? Typically these are dog because domestic cats do not walk with their nails out.
It is important to look at the gait as well. Cats generally have a direct register (their back prints land inside their fronts) versus dogs who are more irregular.
When looking at these photos I've included actual tracks below to show what they look like.
