Recently filmed through my lens, by the Green Bay shores...

Rejection can lead to wild love. Cliff swallow [sci name -> petrochelidon pyrrhonota] in courtship/soap opera mode. Filmed in the Appleton area earlier today. Did you know their scientific name is derived from Ancient Greek? Petrochelidon originates from the petros, meaning "rock"; khelidon means "swallow"; pyrrhonota comes from the terms 'purrhos' ("flame-colored") and '-notos' ("-backed"). Cliff swallow nests, as you can see in this clip, consist of gourd-shaped enclosed structures built of mud pellets, that is, primarily sand with smaller amounts of silt and clay. Amazing architects! These are the same nests they occupied last year, so no need to rebuild every year. Just a few touchups.
