Working on life skills with your dog is an ongoing project, as is enrichment. Thank you very much to Damson in Bloom ltd for allowing me to visit their wonderful florist shop this afternoon with my own "little petal" to continue her training. Thank you for your kind gesture of a beautiful bunch of flowers, too.
For anyone looking for a great florist in the West Midlands, look no further. Floristry, a great selection of hot drinks and homemade cakes and dog friendly - what more could you ask for?! 🙂🐾

Dog Club is now closed due to the majority of us being involved with Crufts and will reopen on Thursday 14th March.

As I have done for the past several years, I will have the honour of leading displays for both Competitive Obedience and Rally in the Dog Activities Ring in Hall 3 every day. A selection of dogs and handlers will also form part of the Dog Activities display on Sunday in the Main Arena at 10.45am.

My pupils, friends and colleagues will be competing in Rally, Obedience, Breed showing, Young Kennel Club events, also several of them will be taking part in displays and demonstrations of Rally, Obedience, HTM, Scentwork, Tricks, Hoopers, some of them are judging or stewarding, helping or simply spectating.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all my pupils the very best of luck at Crufts, in whatever capacity they are involved in. I am delighted to have such talent within the club to inspire me and, whatever happens, I am very proud of you all. Enjoy the magic of Crufts and remember you all take the best dog home with you!

"The Fair Weather Dog Training Club DTC along with Go Dog Training Club are so pleased that Claire Coughlan has kindly agreed to come to Oxfordshire to give a Rally Workshop for handlers new to Rally and those at Levels 1, 2 and 3.
And not only that!!! we will be having
A Training Rally Obedience Competition
for Levels 1,2 and 3 as well which is open to all those handlers and their dogs at Levels 1, 2, and 3!!!

The morning session will be looking at the Levels 1 and 2 signs with actual practice of a Rally course as well as helping you with advice for your first Rally competition. The morning workshop is restricted to 10 handlers and their dog and costs £40. This includes one free run in the Training Rally Competition in the afternoon.

The Training Rally Competition is open to anyone whether they come to the morning workshop or just want to have a go at a Level 1, 2 or 3 training competition. The entry fees for the competition is £5 per run per dog or £8 per dog for 2 classes. You do not need to have come to the morning workshop as the afternoon competition is open to anyone whose dog is at Rally Levels 1, 2 or 3.

We are all reading and hearing the news about dog attacks with ever growing upset. My thoughts are with those who have lost their lives or been injured in the last few days.

Today the British Prime Minister has stated that 'American XL Bully' Dogs will be banned by the end of this year. To be able to ban the breed it needs defining. This will probably lead to many crossbreeds being incorrectly identified as banned, plus many other issues.

Breed Specific Legislation does not work. We need only look at the example of Pit Bulls to see that.

There is no single answer to this problem, however we dog professionals must continue to campaign for dog owners to have access to training, safe socialisation and education on responsible dog ownership.

For now, let's hold our own dogs close and ensure they enjoy happy and enriched lives.

Here's one of my lovely 1-1 dogs demonstrating how to move in and out of a doorway sensibly, showing off her good behaviour at a local café and sleeping off her busy lesson! This has all been achieved by building trust between dog and owner, plus rewarding and positive training.
I'm particularly proud of this partnership, as her human is a first time dog owner. Maybe you're living with your first dog too?
If you entrust me to help you on a 1-1 basis I will work with you to achieve your ambitions for your dog, whether that be life skills or dog sports, but above all finding how to give your best pal their happiest life.

Club is currently closed while several of us compete or judge at various shows over the long weekend. Any messages will be responded to from Wednesday 12th April onwards.

*Training Advent Calendar*

This year I have pulled out all the stops and designed a virtual (online) training advent calendar. I must say, I'm quite pleased with it 😁

The calendar contains tasks/exercises from several dog disciplines but also covers some Good Citizen work and general life skills. Any ability of dog and handler can complete the tasks and there should be something in there for everyone.

I have chosen The Animal House to benefit from the majority of funds raised from this. They are a small charity, based in Birmingham, who foster out all the dogs that come into their care. Like many small charities, their vet bills and other costs are astronomical, so any help we can give would be hugely appreciated. One of my lovely pupils was rehomed from here.

So, to this end I'm asking you to sign up to receive my Virtual Training Advent Calendar for £10 please. The majority of this will go to The Animal House. Let's sign up, share amongst our dog loving friends (even those who have trainable cats!), let's get promoting the fantastic training you can do and try to spread some Christmas love at the same time.

On Saturday, a few of us carried out a display for a medical fundraiser.
The dogs, ranging from 3.5 months to 10 years, and their handlers ably demonstrated several dog sports. Obedience, Rally, Freestyle, Parkour, Scentwork and Tricks were highlighted and the team did our club proud.

Four members of my Monday puppy groups took their Puppy Assessments this week and were very successful. Huge well done to Moki, Norris, Otis, Button and their respective owners!
I'm very pleased with their progress and their enthusiasm to move into the many dog sports we offer at club. Looking forward to helping them continue their training journey.
