Good Morning!

My name is Sacagawea and I am a rescue who came from the AVC! I am a California king snake and sometimes we can get a nasty reputation 🙄 We can't help if we are always hungry! My daddy worked with me a lot and I love to hangout. I even poke at the door to let him know I'm ready to spend some time with him! Although most of us are known to be bite, with regular handling and routine this rarely happens. We have a high food drive and can be known as "garbage cans" for people with large amounts of snakes. If someone won't eat their meal I sure will! Sometimes we even try to eat ourselves, we can be a little silly. Thankfully I don't do that...yet 🤣

When I was surrendered to the AVC they didn't really know how to properly take care of me. Lots of people had applied for me, but eventually they ended up picking my mommy and daddy, and I couldn't be happier. When I got home I was finally switched to proper sized meals and my growth spirt started! They think I'm around 2 years old, but who really needs to know but me! I was really scared when I first got home and I would p**p on everyone everytime they tried to hangout with me..now all I ever want to do is spend time with my family!

Sacagawea is one of the few lucky snakes who was surrendered instead of passed along through more owners with improper care. My next post is going to be how I like to set up my enclosures, including heating, lights, thermostats, hides and enrichment. There is lots of successful ways to keep reptiles, but I've never been one for the bare minimum. Serpents & Scales would like to change everyone to bioactive setups in the future, but will also share our knowledge and what we learn along the way. This is a place to grow and share ideas 💖

My name is Valentina and I have a special place in mummies heart..I was her first ever snake! 🐍Mom has always kept reptiles, but never us slithery ones! I am a beautiful Pastave Ball Python (Pastel, Mojave). Mummy bought me a year ago from somebody who was housing me for another individual who decided they no longer wanted me. My foster home was taking great care of me so thankfully I was in perfect condition when I arrived at my forever home. I have done so much growing here with my family, gotten so many tank upgrades, moved up meals, and even got to go on adventures!

I love to explore and bask on my rock. In the warm months I especially love going outside to slither in the grass. It always makes me happy. Sometimes I can be a little spicy with my daddy, only because I know he used to be scared of me so I think it's funny to tease him, but I love my mommy. I can always hangout with her. I am currently housed in a 55 gallon but I am getting a custom made enclosure with so much room to climb and explore! They treat me so good here 🐍❤️

Valentina is a lucky girl who was well taken care of. Ball Pythons are typically hardy animals, meaning sadly they can withstand a lot of neglect. There is lots of great methods to keeping, tub set ups done correctly are successful, bioactive enclosures or different substrates, and different heating methods can all be efficient given all correct husbandry. Proper research and consideration of your animal does wonders. Always look for multiple opinions and sources for your information to provide the best for your baby 🐍

Hi everybody!

My name is Calcifur and I am a 5 year old amelanistic (albino) corn snake. I have gone through a long list of new owners, everyone either didn't have time for me or they were scared of me. My last home wasn't great, my owner thought I was aggressive so they never cleaned my tank. I had no substrate covering most of the glass, and what was in there was full of mold. I don't know why they were scared though, I have never even tried to bite my new mommy or daddy, I would rather p**p on them if I don't want to hangout. My old owner wouldn't take me out of my enclosure so it took me a little bit to trust my new family and stop p**ping on them so much, but now I love it here!

My family got me my own 55 gallon long tank with all the clean substrate I could ever ask for! I can create cool burrows and tunnels underground and even climb up on my tree! It feels so nice to have enough space to fully stretch my long beautiful body. I am thankful that my new family is giving me a better life.

A lot of people end up buying baby snakes with little to no knowledge about how much they are going to grow or their needs. Maybe Christmas gifts, hand me downs, or just uneducated family pets, these animals end up neglected and passed on. If you are considering adding ANY animal into your home, do proper research on their requirements for a healthy happy life. This includes looking at more then just one resource to have the best idea of what actually works well for the species ❤️

I made this page to share proper care of reptiles, and with that being said, I also want to touch on those who have sadly crossed the rainbow bridge 💔

My beautiful angel Astrid ✨️ Astrid was a rescue who was housed in a 40 gallon aquarium with another dragon. Cohabitation should not happen among these animals, let alone in such a small enclosure. Bearded Dragons are solitary animals and should not be kept in groups or pairs, this causes unneeded stress, fighting that can lead to injury, and overall bullying of the basking spots, food and hides. You may see photos of one dragon sitting on top of another and think it is "cute" and they are "bonding" when in fact the top dragon is bullying the bottom for the basking spot in the enclosure. Bearded Dragons also require a 120 gallon enclosure which can be pricey.

The amount of Dragons I see in poor setups is heart breaking. When Astrid arrived, we had her set up in her own beautiful enclosure. But sadly, due to poor husbandry of her previous home, she had caught a respiratory infection. These can not be treated without antibiotics, and unfourtnetly she did not make it to her vet appointment. Astrid was with us for less then a week, and we so wish she would of made it to get her antibiotics as she was a young girl, only 3 years old.

May she rest in paradise, catching all the bugs her little heart desires. If you are considering adding a bearded dragon to your home, please do proper research on their diet, lighting, and husbandry needs so less dragons have to suffer during their life like Astrid did. We hope her short time with us she felt loved, and enjoyed her own space.

My name is Wanda and I am a 8 year old normal ball python. My younger brother Cosmo introduced himself first, but I like to say I'm the star of the show ❤️

I was unable to be properly cared for by my previous family and I was also pretty underweight when my new family got me home. My new mommy started feeding me regularly and I plumped right up, I weight a whole 6 pounds! Don't worry though, non of my scales are stretched or separated, I am just a big girl! Did you know that us ladies normally are larger then the boys? Girl power! I love to come hangout with my mommy, she let's me sit and watch TV with her and my favorite show is Rupauls Drag Race. I could watch it for hours. I have always been very friendly and outgoing, so it didn't take me long to settle in at all. My whole family loves me and I get to hangout with mommy and daddy's nieces because i am such a good girl, they make me so happy!

I am full of adventure and gave my mommy a scare one day when I learned how to open my enclosure doors. She has since changed it around for me and I am unable to get out when I want...so lame! I'm thankful my mommy takes me out daily to hangout anyways.

Hi everyone!
My name is Cosmo. I am a 5 year old pastel ball python. My old owners were unable to properly care for me or my big sister Wanda anymore, so we were surrendered to our new mommy!

When my mommy got me, I was pretty underweight and needed a little TLC because I was really shy. My mommy got me back up to a healthy weight and set me up in my own enclosure! I didn't have any substrate before, and I was super excited to have some fresh cocohusk and my own hides. I met my new daddy and I fell in love with him. My daddy takes me out everyday and I enjoy to wrap around his hat and hangout doing whatever he decides to do. I could hangout with my daddy for hours 🐍❤️ I am only a little shy now when I need to shed..but who could blame me, I can't really see! I am a great eater for my mommy and daddy and I eat a medium rat every 2 weeks!

Cosmo is just one of the many animals who have come to stay forever with us here at Serpents and Scales. Cosmo was very fortunate that his old family decided that he deserved a better life when they did before his weight loss lead to other health concerns. We love you Cosmo! Keep thriving baby.

Good Afternoon 😄

Serpents & Scales was created as a place to share updates on my rescued, rehomed, and future breeding animals. I strive to share proper knowledge on care and husbandry to help see less of these animals in bad conditions.

I am a 23 year old girl from Prince Edward Island, and for this past year my partner and I have been filling our brains with as much knowledge on proper care for these animals as possible. Within this last year, we have taken in sick geckos, snakes and dragons, some of which have got the opportunity to thrive, and some that sadly even with the help of our trusted veterinarians, were just too tired and too far gone. We are constantly learning and growing, in hopes to be able to spread more awareness for the unloved ❤️

Serpents & Scales is currently housing 2 Bearded Dragons, 1 Rankins Dragon, 3 Leopard Geckos, 4 Corn Snakes, 2 King Snakes, 1 Boa Constrictor, 1 Carpet Python, and 12 beautiful Ball Pythons. We hope to share the stories of each individual animal as well as those we have sadly lost along the way.
