🎶 I’m a Barbie girl, in a Barbie world!! 🎶

Miss Barbie was rescued from a hoarding situation a little over a year ago. Because of the situation she came from she had a lot of anxiety around other cats, and had a really hard time adjusting at Almost Home.

We could see that Barbie had a wonderful sweet side to her, but she was always on the defense any time another cat would be in eye sight. Her anxiety became so bad that she would sit on a shelf and not come down if another cat was around, even to eat or go to the bathroom. We eventually had to put her in a large walk-in suite so that she felt safe and more secure. We tried desperately to find her a home by showing her to everyone that wanted a single cat with no success. I even posted about her on our page multiple times of how I truly wanted to find this sweet girl the loving home that she deserved.

Well guess what?!?! Barbie was adopted last week!!! She is already loving her new mom and living the life I always wanted for her in her forever Barbie dream home!!

Here is an update that we received from her new family. We are so happy for Barbie. Her forever home was everything I could have asked for her to have.

Hello everyone. I hope you receive this message. Barbie is doing wonderfully well. We played a long time with a teaser toy today twice, we had a great time. She is eating and using the sand box. So many outside noises it makes her somewhat nervous, and she'll growl at some of them. She is fascinated looking out the window with the wind blowing leaves, she even saw geese fly right over the house, her eyes were so big when she saw them. You were so right about how sweet she is. I've been given an uncountable number of head rubs and body rubs and some kisses, she has been in my lap so many times and she even took a nap in my lap today. I'm going to let her come downstairs Thursday if all continues to go well. I know we are going to have a close bond.
Thank you again.

Happy Friday!
Do you remember Lexie and her kittens?
Well, they are all doing so well and are now at Almost Home available for adoption!!
For those of you that don’t know Lexie’s story, she was left at our door when we were not open. She was very pregnant and extremely sick. She was so anemic that she needed to be on oxygen and was on the verge of needing a blood transfusion. Unfortunately, she went into labor the day after she was abandoned, and because she was so sick, she was unable to have her kittens naturally, and needed an emergency c-section. All of her kittens needed to be revived after birth and Lexie continued to need critical care the first few weeks of having her. Once she was feeling better Lexie was reunited with her kittens and was such a good mama!!
Here is a video of them at the rescue being adorable 🥰.
I also share some updates and other news in the video.
Enjoy!

Happy Labor Day!

We had another pregnant cat left at our door early yesterday morning before we were open 😩.

I brought her to my home yesterday until a foster was available for her. When I came in to check on her this morning she was in labor and had already given birth to one kitten.

She did a great job during labor and needed little intervention. She had 6 kittens total!

We will keep you updated on our newest members of Almost Home. 🩷

What a fabulous weekend of giving to Almost Home at the 2024 DenFur convention!
Almost Home was chosen to be the charity this year, and we were honored to be part of this convention. We were treated like royalty by staff and volunteers, and the wonderful attendees at this event were so kind and generous with the amount of money that they raised for Almost Home.
We are so grateful to be chosen as their charity this year!
Thank you DenFur for helping us continue to help our sweet kitties at Almost Home.

UPDATE ON LEXIE AND HER KITTENS 🩷

Lexie is slowly improving daily. She is still anemic, but her hematocrit levels are going up a little every day. If the levels continue to improve she will not need a blood transfusion. The pleural effusion is also improving, but she still has some fluid around her lungs. Lexie is still needing to be on the oxygen, but if she continues to improve, we are hoping she will be able to come off the oxygen in the next couple of days.

Lexie was able to meet her kittens for the first time Saturday evening. Being able to be with her kittens has definitely given her the will to live, and the kittens are getting the motherly love they deserve. I am having to supplement her kittens with kitten formula every two hours and I am giving 24 hour support care to Lexie. I am exhausted, but it is so worth it seeing her improve.

Here is a video of Lexie being reunited with her kittens Saturday evening. It is so cute how she cared for them right away!

UPDATE ON KITTY THAT WAS FOUND LEFT AT OUR FRONT DOOR AT ALMOST HOME AFTER HOURS.
DONATIONS NEEDED!!

To say the last 72 hours has been a rollercoaster ride is an understatement! Thursday morning I arrived to Almost Home and noticed a carrier at the front door as I pulled into the parking lot. When I went to check the carrier I discovered that there was a beautiful, sweet, and very pregnant cat inside the carrier. I was able to do a quick exam on her and noticed she was extremely thin, lethargic, and had a huge pregnant belly. I could feel the kittens moving inside of her so I knew it wouldn’t be long before she delivered.

We normally take surrenders by appointment only, and all of my foster homes were full. We do not keep cats at the rescue that have not been quarantined for at least two weeks, and that have not been vaccinated. I needed to find a foster home quickly for this sweet girl. I called the director, aka my mom, aka Kathleen, who normally takes special needs cases and asked if she could foster her. She immediately said yes and started to get ready for her arrival. Once in foster care we noticed right away that something was not right with our new mama, that we named Lexie.

Lexie was very weak, pale, dehydrated, and had a very low body temperature. Kathleen gave support care throughout the evening and I made an appointment for her to see Dr. Brown at Harmony Vet Center first thing in the morning.

Lexie was very sick. She needed IV fluids and multiple tests done to try and figure out what was going on with her. We discovered that she was anemic along with a few other complications. They did an ultrasound and x-ray to check on the kittens. You could see she had 5 kittens and that they were full term. If Lexie did not improve with IV and medications, Dr. Brown was ready to do an emergency c-section if needed. Lexie stayed at Harmony all day and was starting to show some signs of improvement, and Dr Brown felt comfortable enough to send her back with us for the night, and wanted to see her at the hospital first thing in the morning. I was to contact Dr Brown with any changes and we were told to keep a very close eye on her throughout the night.

As I picked Lexie up from Harmony, and was putting her in the car, liquid came shooting out from the carrier. At first I thought she just peed, but once we got her back to foster care I realized it was actually her water that had broken. Lexie was in labor. Lexie tried to have her kittens naturally, but was just too weak to push them out. One of the kittens was stuck in the birth canal and was breached. We were frantically trying to find an emergency vet that could do an emergency c-section after hours. We found two vet clinics that were able to do the surgery, but they were both 45 minutes away. I was corresponding with Dr. Brown and letting her know exactly what was going on. We did not want to cause anymore stress on Lexie, as stress can sometimes stop labor. We agreed that the least stressful situation for Lexie was not to move Lexie, and let her try and give birth to the kitten that was breached. After several attempts of pushing with no results Dr. Brown did not want us to wait any longer and had us meet her, and two of her amazing vet techs, back at Harmony to do an emergency c-section.

During surgery Lexie’s temperature was dropping fast. Dr Brown was able to get all 5 kittens out within minutes. As Dr Brown and one of the techs were working on saving Lexie, myself, Kathleen, and the other tech did cpr on all 5 kittens. We were able to revive all 5 of them!!

Lexie’s temperature continued to drop. She was critical, but made it through surgery. In recovery we all worked together on warming Lexie up and at the same time care for her kittens . Lexie finally started to respond and her temperature started to rise. Unfortunately, Lexie started to struggle to breathe. They took Lexie back for an X-ray and discovered she had pleural effusion (fluid around the lungs). They put Lexie on oxygen and gave her medication to help draw the fluid off of her lungs. Lexie started to improve and Dr Brown was comfortable enough for us to take her home on oxygen around 1am last night, and had us return with her this morning for a check up.

Lexie’s pleural effusion has improved, but is still there. She will continue to need to be on oxygen. She is also still very anemic. There is a possibility that she will need a blood transfusion tomorrow if her values do not improve.

Lexie has not been able to be with her kittens but she will get to see all of them for the first time this evening for a short period of time. I have been tube feeding the kittens every 2 hours, and this afternoon they all latched onto the bottle for the first time.

Lexie and her kittens have a long road to recovery and their medical expenses are adding up very quickly! If you would like to contribute to Lexie and her kittens medical fund you can do so by donating through Facebook or by going to our website for multiple options to donate at:

I want to thank Harmony Vet Center for all their help saving these precious kitties. They have helped us save so many special kitties and we are forever grateful for them.

I will continue to keep you posted on how they are doing. Let me know if you would like to see a video of their reunion this evening!

Edited: after examining her it appears she is pregnant!
Nothing like pulling up to the rescue to find a poor sweet kitty abandoned at the front door 😡!
This is not ok! We do surrenders by appointment only. We are full. I have nowhere for this kitty to go. I have people that have made appointments to surrender their cat, and now have to call and tell them we can no longer take them.
Please don’t say at least they brought the cat to Almost Home. She was left at the door when we were not open, on a busy road, with lots of animals and humans that come by that could have harmed her. Not to mention she is terrified and feels abandoned. This is not ok!
My heart breaks for her.
