When we lived in Canada we had a lovely blind chocolate Lab named Shasa. She was a princess and a loved member of the family for years. Because of health issues we always had to feed her a high end diet. Only the best commercial food would do! And she was a picky eater, a rarity for a Labrador indeed. Then at 9 years old she became very lethargic and not interested in her food at all. So, we start
ed to make her food from human ingredients. Chicken, rice, potatoes, and she loved all veggies too. But even that didn't work. We thought it was her one eye (the other had been removed years ago) that was causing her pain. So, off we went to the vet for tests. We were absolutely shocked when the vet said her kidneys had basically shut down and she only had a couple of days left to live. It was a sad time indeed. About 6 months after putting her down we heard through a large media uproar that dog food producers were buying protein from China. And all levels of dog food producers, high and low end. It turned out this ingredient, which tests as pure protein, was actually melamine! And this causes kidney failure in dogs. So many dogs were dying because of kidney failure and they finally figured out why. Of course one of the brands was the one our picky little pooch had eaten. This was a turning point for us taking care of our pets. No more commercial food was going to be eaten. We couldn’t trust even the most expensive and high end brands so who could we trust? So, after lots of research, testing and input from others, we came up with a balanced diet that we felt would benefit our dog. And moreover, we knew what was in it and we were not relying on corporations that only care about costs to feed our pet. So, this is how we came up with Canine Cuisine. Real food and ingredients you can see! We have developed two kinds of food so far, chicken and beef. Yes, beef is expensive. However, we have found our dog and have heard of many other dogs cannot eat chicken due to allergies. So, there’s an option for those dogs with fussy diets. We use real meat, bought through human food suppliers, red and white rice, potatoes (peeled and no green bits on them), vegetables and other natural vitamins such as calcium and coconut oil to benefit their diet. We don’t process the food into a paste so you can see what you are actually feeding your pet. Hopefully your pet enjoys it as much as ours!
