Entering the Buffer Zone
The Bar Buffer came about following a survey and report that Sarah Weston prepared for the British Animal Rescue and Trauma Care Association and Intelligent Horsemanship, where over one hundred people described to her the awful incidents and accidents that had occurred involving their horses in various modes of horse transport. Further research revealed that horses got into difficulties in both front-facing and rear-facing vehicles and that those travelling in forward-facing transport were likely to be bruised or even injured when they came into contact with the hard front bars during braking and gear changes. This seems to have an impact not just on them physically but also on them mentally - horses becoming difficult to load and poor travelers.
It seemed to Sarah that a lot of this pressure could be alleviated by well constructed padding using high quality materials in order to offer protection and comfort, and also a feeling of warmth. The Buffer is made from durable, thick and dense materials, with a washable cover. It fits over your existing bar and the cover is fastened with robust Velcro.
The Bar Buffer can also be used on back bars and is especially useful where a horse has had a negative encounter with a breech bar and has lost confidence in having one behind him.
The bars come in standard sizes to fit half-width, full width and mare and foal width bars and can also be made bespoke for any other applications.
