The fun-loving Yorkie Poo breed is a direct cross between a Poodle, and Yorkshire terrier. Poodles, (who carry half of Yorkie Poos DNA), originated from Germany and are known to be highly intelligent and attentive. Poodles were often trained to do small helpful tasks, such as retrieving game. Yorkshire Terriers originated from the English city of Yorkshire, where they were bred for capturing rats
and mice. Soon the breed advanced from working dogs, to a popular loyal friend to many. Yorkie Poos are the result of breeding the Poodle and Yorkshire terrier. It is thought that the breeders originally wanted a small, non-shedding, high energy dog. Yorkie Poos are often not recognized an official breed, because many traits they inherent are inconsistent. Despite this, the breed is getting more popular with every coming year. Many Yorkie Poos alive today are a direct result of a Poodle and a Yorkshire terrier, but there are also many whose parents are Yorkie Poos in the 3rd and 4th generation. They are often described as alert, intelligent, and Highly Social. They do have a high energy level and love to play, but are not overly hyper like many other small dogs. Yorkie Poos coats are fairly short, soft, and usually curly or straight. Their coat is a big plus for owners, because they don’t shed! And because they’re so soft and silky, they’re great lap dogs that love to cuddle! Yorkie Poos are brave, despite their small size, and don’t let larger dogs push them around. While this is true, however, they are not aggressive and behave well with small children and make great companions for any family. Although the breed doesn’t need a whole lot of exercise, daily walks are recommended, along with a healthy diet and proper grooming. With love and care, your Yorkie Poo can live a happy, healthy life up to about 20 years.
