Racing 2 Rehome: Discover our journey to find forever homes for greyhounds in need.

Racing 2 Rehome Incorporated is a not-for-profit volunteer run organisation, dedicated to the rescuing and rehoming of greyhounds throughout SE Gippsland and SE Melbourne suburbs. We thought you might like us to share some pics of Harriet, seeing it is over a fortnight since she went into foster.

Jenni tells us that Harriet likes lots of attention, enjoys her walks and is eating like a horse!
So, those protruding ribs [small photo from when she first came into R2R from the Pound - see fb post on 31/1/25] are slowly disappearing and the terrible open wounds on her rear end have now healed over thanks to lots of care and the comfort of a Portsea bed!

Harriet has even dipped her paws into the sea - so she is very much enjoying her new foster life. A lovely change from her previous pet life. 💜🐾💜

🐾 Meet Tully, the sweet and affectionate greyhound! 🐾

Tully is calm, friendly, and loves her daily 5 km walks. While she enjoys playing with squeaky toys and chasing her foster brother, she’s also a cuddle bug who loves head pats. She’s great in the car and loves quieter, open spaces. Tully gets along well with her foster family’s small dog, though she forgets the size difference sometimes!

Tully is adaptable to various homes, whether as an only pet or with another dog. She’s perfect for a loving family, couple, or active senior! 🌟

World Galgo Day: Feb 1st – marks the end of the hunting season in Spain and aims to spread awareness of the plight of Galgos and gratitude to all those in the front line of rescue for these Spanish hunting dogs.

“I visited Spain in 2024 and was thrilled on my first morning out walking on a Madrid boulevard to spy these two beautiful Galgos! The lovely man who had adopted them was delighted to be accosted by me, and proud to show off his handsome one year old boys, telling me that many are killed in Spain. When I stepped forward to pat them, the black boy in exuberant greyhound fashion jumped up on me and knocked off my sunglasses as his greeting, much to his owner’s embarrassment! But of course, that is something all greyhound owners/fostercarers are well used to!” [by Derarca]

Below are just a few of the Spanish groups that do great rescue work. They adopt dogs to other European countries, as well as fly them to Greyhound Adoption groups in the USA, Canada and Finland to find more homes for them.

R2R encourage you to support and follow the social media of the amazing rescue groups in Spain to give these dogs a voice. The groups are constantly overwhelmed with abandoned galgos and dealing with horrific injuries from galgos hit by cars as they try and fend for themselves.

R2R wish to thank those who offered support for gentle, fragile Harriet. 💜

We are grateful to Jenni for opening her heart to nurse Harriet back to health in a home where she will be a solo dog and can have the care and attention, she desperately needs lavished upon her.

Despite her poor condition, that you can clearly see in these photos, we are delighted to say that Harriet has been very friendly to everyone she has met and just loves to be patted and stroked.

The open pressure sores on her rump appear to be from lying on a hard surface like concrete in such a pitifully skinny condition. The pound had even put blankets and doonas in her kennel to make her more comfortable in the last fortnight, but now she is just loving snuggling into the comfort of soft Portsea beds!

Harriet is ravishingly hungry, but her level of malnutrition means we will need take her weight gain slowly with multiple daily small meals.

Life at last is looking brighter for this sweetest girl! 💜🐾💜

PS: While not in Harriet’s poor condition, R2R have 8yo and 9yo females who have been on our waitlist for such a long time and who desperately need to get out of kennels and have the chance of experiencing the love of a pet home – so please consider fostering just one greyhound. 💜

Meet Friday – every day’s a Friday with this handsome boy! 🎉💙 At 4 years old, he's a chilled-out, toy-loving, social butterfly who enjoys his short walks, zoomies in the garden, and car rides. He’s super polite with other dogs and loves hanging with his humans. Whether he’s lounging or playing, Friday just wants to be part of the family. He’s also great with stairs, toilet trained, and sleeps through the night. ❤️ He’s looking for a family where he can get lots of love and attention! Could it be you? 🐾

This poor sweet girl is an abandoned stray and R2R are taking her out of the Pound – but we need your help to provide a caring Foster Home (small dog and cat-free in Melbourne or surrounds).

At 10 years, she is in terrible condition, being severely underweight at only 19kg and with open sores on her rump.

I'm Francis, and despite a few grey hairs, I’ve got plenty of energy and love to give! I’m an easy-going, fun-loving hound who’s ready to find my forever home. I love my walks, playing with squeaky toys, and snuggling on the couch (I’m very good at that!). I’d be perfect for someone who enjoys a daily walk, has a strong arm for ball throwing, and can handle a couch-loving companion.

Our greyhounds come from Trainers kennels and are immediately fostered in private homes to learn about pet-life. We are completely volunteer run, so we welcome donations to support our work in rehoming as many greyhounds as we can manage. Donations over $2 are tax deductible.
