🌟 Taz is Living His Best Life in the USA! 🌟

We are over the moon to see our beloved Taz thriving in his new home in Phoenix, Arizona! 🏜️ It’s always heartwarming to receive feedback from the wonderful families who open their hearts to our Aussie greyhounds, and we are so grateful for our partner adoption groups in the USA who work tirelessly to ensure these dogs find the best homes possible.

Taz’s new mum recently shared this beautiful update with us:

"My handsome boy Taz came to us in a whirlwind of unexpected surprise when we lost our beloved galgo & realised our recently new other greyhound desperately needed a friend. He’s such the amazing personality of fun, snuggles & craziness that our home needed. This is the gorgeous smoochy Tex who had a fall racing that fractured his wrist and despite veterinary care his leg did not heal straight.

We are indebted to the wonderful care and skill of Dr Craig and Dr Bec at Port Phillip Animal Hospital. So, paws crossed that Tex’s arthrodesis surgery (bone graft, plate and pins) will give him a pain-free pet life.

His fostercarer, Karen is a nurse and we are so grateful that she is happy to care for Tex on his lengthy rehab journey. She tells us Tex is working out how to navigate around and p*e while only having 3 usable legs! 💜🐾🐾🐾💜

Firstly, a BIG THANKS to our new foster-carer Ebony for agreeing to foster Friday Knock Off!
Ebony is a vet student with a greyhound named Winnie - so we couldn't ask for a better foster home for Friday.

Poor Friday had 3 vet visits in the first week we took him in from the Pound, as we tried to stabilise his poor health!

And last week was his Cardiology appointment, where it was confirmed that he suffers from atrial fibrillation (so his heart electrics are not firing properly). But Dr Kathryn & Dr Richard Woolley shared the wonderful news with us that by continuing on heart medication Friday should get the chance to live out a happy life!

We have already seen the big difference his heart medication is making - now he just loves to race around the house tossing his toys!

Those 20kg bags are heavy, but R2R volunteers Amy and Jedd made light work of loading the van.

Alas, Amy's greyhounds - Marvin & Nikki were disappointed to discover that none of the yummy bags were going home with them!

We may be biased, but we think that even with only one eye, Latisha is the most loveable, playful girl. Her lack of an eye does not impact her exuberant lifestyle!

She loves tossing her toys around, zooming in the yard, having loads of cuddles and just hanging out with you. She is always excited to go for a walk and happy to meet any dogs and people along the way.

Help Needed: Urgent Foster Home for Sweet Friday 🐾❤️

📢 Meet Friday Knock Off 📢, a loving greyhound who desperately needs a caring foster home while we address his medical issues. 💕

Just over a week ago, Friday and his two racing kennel mates were rescued from a Pound by Racing 2 Rehome. It quickly became clear that Friday was unwell and needed veterinary care.

💔 We are in such desperate need of foster homes that the three dogs from the Pound had to go to kennels. As soon as we realised how unwell Friday was, he was taken into a home because he could not be left in kennels in his condition. The only available foster home was a temporary with cats. Friday was so unwell that he didn't react to the cats in the home. 🐾

We arranged an urgent vet appointment for Friday. An ECG revealed a serious heart murmur, and he was booked to see a cardiologist. Cared for in a home and under a watchful eye, it was noted that he was having difficulty breathing. On the cardiologist's advice, he was rushed to the emergency vet hospital. He is now on tablets every eight hours, which have stabilised him and even given him some energy to play with toys. 🧸 A third vet visit on Saturday confirmed that his heart rate is stable with the new medication.

Friday is a lovely, friendly, and confident three-year-old boy who spends most of his time sleeping. 💤 He gets along well with other greyhounds and wags his tail at other breeds. 🐕

We need a foster carer who:

🏡 Quiet Environment: A calm home where he can rest (cat-free).

💊 Medication Needs: Is home often enough and happy to give him tablets (he takes them eagerly in peanut butter or meat). This may change after his cardiologist visit.

📍 Location: Ideally lives in the southeastern suburbs or inner city Melbourne to facilitate vet appointments.

Three greyhounds were last week abandoned at a Rural Pound, just a month after being adopted, despite having nearly $25K in winnings between them. Two of them had only finished racing last month. It seems suspicious that all three were supposedly “adopted” by the same person at the same time. These are the dogs:

• FRIDAY KNOCK OFF – 956000007376028, 3yo, Winnings: $17,670
• CANNONEER – 956000014807316, 2yo, Winnings: $4,700
• BEKERE – 956000007466170, 2yo, Winnings: $2,410

The Pound gave Racing 2 Rehome (R2R) an ultimatum: we had five hours to scramble a plan to take in the dogs. If not, “they would be euthanised the next day” due to a lack of space.

The supposed adopter claimed he had adopted the three dogs a month ago but could not care for them due to work commitments. It was evident he hadn't even had time to buy them new collars, remove stitches from desexing, or register them with the council.

R2R believes this was a scam adoption by the greyhounds' owner/trainer, knowing that under GRV rules, racing owners must take their greyhounds back if the adopter wishes to return them within 21 days. To us, it appears the dogs were put in a bogus adopter's name, waited past the 21 days, and then dropped off at the Pound.

Many trainers are holding their dogs for up to a year, waiting for a spot in R2R’s program, GAP, or other rehoming groups. Our volunteers are under immense pressure to rehome the excess of greyhounds produced by the racing industry, and we are receiving emergency requests every week.

The impact of this pound dump incident is significant: Over 250 dogs are currently on R2R’s waitlist, some of them waiting nearly a year. For those dogs that have been waiting so long, we are thinking of you, and we are so sorry. Sadly, every dog on our waitlist has now slid back three places to get into our program. With adoptions at an all-time low, it could be many more months before we have places available.

But as you can see from this lovely pic from his foster carer, Karen, he has finally settled onto the couch for a big snooze, under the watchful eye of his new doggie friend Lucy.

Hi! My name’s Lou and I must tell you about my fabulous new life!

But firstly, can I confess that while I’m a very tall boy who loves to zoom around and play hard, I’m actually uber-scared of any new humans who want to come near me…

So, how lucky am I?

I’m living in the quiet countryside with a very playful Husky, named Pushkin for my bestie – we have such a ball together and despite going on long walks every day, we still have energy to play chasey in our big home yard. I also love rolling in the grass (like the horses do) and I’m happy to go chat to the horses who live here!
On weekends, Poppy is home with us and we three hang out together – but she is a reserved lady greyhound and doesn’t join in Pushkin’s and my wild shenanigans.

Oh, and did I say that the people in my forever home are really lovely.
My mum Sophie could see past my “won’t go near strangers” behaviour when we first met and said she would give me a chance! And now she says I’m just the bestest boy!

So, when you are meeting a foster greyhound – remember that not all of us will jump all over you and give you cuddles. But once we are in your home… we will just LOVE you to pieces! 💜🐾💜
