Olive is the sweetest little English/Frenchie mix baby. At a bit under a year old, she's full of puppy enthusiasm and playfulness. But don't worry, she's just as happy lazily snuggling with her pack. Olive is great with other dogs and knows how to moderate her play as needed. If another dog doesn't like playing, she will happily cuddle-up to them instead. Olive would do best in a home with canine siblings. That said, if her human(s) have lots of time to interact and snuggle with her, that's more important than anything. Physical affection is her top priority. Her foster family calls her a top-tier snuggler! She's also very funny. Her favorite way to watch TV is to climb on the back of the couch and perch her chin on the shoulder of one of her humans. Olive can be a bit stand-off-ish with people at first, but she warms up very quickly. She takes a little longer to warm-up to men than women. It doesn't take her long, but a little patience will be needed. She does love attention and affection though, so as her positive experiences with people increase her stand-off-ish-ness will improve. She is a puppy, so she is still house-training and learning some basic manners. She will require the same degree of patience and tolerance that any new puppy will. Thankfully, Olive doesn't have any known health issues, and her cherry eyes will be surgically corrected prior to adoption.
All that said, if you'd love to adopt a snuggly little velcro baby, Olive may be the dog for you! Her foster family swears that she is one of the sweetest and most physically affectionate foster dogs they've ever had! Meet Olive at the NOBR December Adoption Event!

Special thank you to Lydia and NOBR alums Valerie and Bartholomew for fostering Olive and helping her so much! For those of you wondering how they could let her be adopted when she literally fits in so well, it's because we know she will continue to thrive with her own family, and Valerie and Bart's love will be of great benefit to their next foster dog once Olive is adopted.

Hippo! Despite his mean mug and tough guy look, Hippo is a sensitive and gentle bully who needs a patient and loving home. Hippo is barely a year old and still very puppy-like. He responds to baby talk and butt scratches, and has gotten great advice from NOBR alums Rocko and Billie Jean who have been showing him the ropes in foster care. Hippo loves to play with other dogs, and can't understand why sometimes they are a bit intimidated by his broad posture. Though young, Hippo has quickly mastered his manners, including being housebroken and calm in his kennel. Hippo bonds tightly with people once he gets to know them, and will quickly become your shadow, space heater, confidante, and BFF. We don't know what happened to Hippo early in life, but he definitely had some negative interactions with people. He is weary of strangers and getting pet over the head, but then lovingly melts once he feels comfortable. This is something that will rapidly improve over time with positive reinforcement and increased confidence, but also requires a family who can help guide slow introductions. For now, a home with no small children is best. We would also love for Hippo to go to a home with another dog that can be a good role model for him. Support Hippo by buying a NOBR calendar and come meet him at the NOBR December Adoption Event!

Brutus! This handsome bulldog was extremely down on his luck until just recently. He was found on the side of Veterans Blvd emaciated, weak, and desperate for human help. We think he was dumped but can't be sure. Brutus was just 21lbs- he is now 34lbs and we are still looking to put weight on him. As Brutus gets healthier though, he is adapting extremely well (and quickly) to home life. He is super easy going, and has such a gentle chill presence. Brutus is confused by toys, but not the joy of a belly rub and massage. Unlike some of our others who crave exercise, napping in the sun is more preferable to Brutus than a long walk in the park. Brutus would be the perfect couch companion for people who are homebodies, or he could serve as a loyal navigator sitting shotgun. Brutus is 4-5 years old, and does require a little extra care as he is still dealing with some wrinkle and skin issues after years of neglect. Brutus generally gets along well with both dogs and cats, but as a dog who has not had consistent access to food and water, he can get a little protective of this so he's not a match for every pet. Brutus obviously deserves to be spoiled and then some! It is obvious that his past makes him appreciate love and attention that much more, and he will fall madly in love with new family. Come meet Brutus at the NOBR December Adoption Event and please support his medical care by buying a calendar!

Titan is a 1 year old American Bully who is an absolutely delightful wild thing. He loves to zoomie in the yard, chase balls, press his nose looking out the car window, and will love any adventure you can offer. He is eager to please and sits on command, but really he just hovers his cute butt an inch off the ground while his tail nub buzzes. In the house, Titan is a velcro dog who will follow you around and sleep at your feet. He is very cuddly and entertaining, but needs more exercise and stimulation than some of our other adoptable dogs. Titan loves other dogs, but plays very rough and often doesn't understand dogs' body language, so for now he should be the only dog in the home and also he is not quite ready for small children. Titan has a huge personality inside a compact body, and would do best with active people who are committed to training him but letting him continue to be so silly and ridiculous. Support Titan's medical bills by getting a 2025 calendar! Meet Titan on Saturday 12/21 at the NOBR December Adoption Event!

🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘
We have an immediate, URGENT need for a foster in the Baton Rouge area or foster in NO willing to pick up. We have taken in a sweet dog as part of our safe haven program that support victims of domestic violence who are escaping their abusers. Unfortunately this dog’s experience has made her unable to trust men, resulting in her showing aggression towards her male foster. We do not want to return this dog, but she cannot stay where she is.

Please EMAIL us if you are in that area or able to travel there in the next day or so, are a household with only women, and have a quiet household conducive to emotional healing. A yard or experience with no pull training a large dog would be beneficial (if you are in the NOLA area we can support you with training). The dog is dog and cat friendly but is VERY anxious at the moment and needs a quiet and calm atmosphere while in recovery.

[email protected].

Please share to support victims of domestic violence! We are not able to help without your help!

Minnie the Frenchie was recently found stray by one of our alumni. This sweet girl is all about lap-sitting and cuddles, not wandering the streets alone, which makes us suspect she was sadly abandoned. She’s healthy for her breed, but Minnie’s care costs are still expected to top $1,000, including:

Spay Procedure - $300
Heartworm Treatment - $700-$800
Ear & Eye Meds - $100
Routine Care (vet visits, food, supplies, etc.)

Though we know Minnie has plenty of adoption interest, adoption fees rarely cover these costs, and we rely on our dedicated supporters to help bridge the gap. Every dollar helps us ensure Minnie’s healthy and ready for her forever home.

Please consider donating today to give Minnie the care she deserves and to show her that her perfect cuddle buddy is out there waiting. Thank you for being part of her journey!

Thank you so much to those who donated on Flip's behalf! We've raised $350 but still need $650 more to cover Flip’s heartworm treatment and spay—she's counting on us!
Heartworm disease is a heartbreaking but all-too-common reality here in Louisiana. With our warm climate and a prevalence of mosquitoes, the risk is high and almost guaranteed without prevention. Sadly, many pet owners skip monthly heartworm prevention, either because of cost or lack of awareness, leaving dogs like Flip vulnerable to this dangerous, painful disease.

And it's not just heartworms; Louisiana also faces a severe overpopulation crisis among pets. Every year, countless dogs go without the care they need, often left to struggle on the streets or end up in overcrowded shelters. Spaying and neutering are crucial to changing this cycle, reducing the number of homeless and neglected animals.

Flip’s journey started with fear and hardship, and we’re determined to give her a better future. She’s blossoming in her foster home, and with your help, she’ll be able to fully heal and thrive. Please consider making a donation, however big or small, to help us reach our now $650 goal. Flip deserves this chance, and every dollar brings her closer to health and happiness. Thank you for helping us make a difference in her life and the lives of so many others like her!

Meet Flip, a sweet soul who’s been through more than any dog should. She was discovered with her leash tangled, trapped under a house, and terrified beyond belief. From morning through late afternoon, she stayed there, too terrified to let anyone get close enough to bring her somewhere safe. Finally, with care and patience, our dedicated NOBR volunteers helped her out, but we soon realized her journey to healing was just beginning.

After days at the vet, hoping an owner would come forward, it became clear that Flip was on her own. With no one to claim her, we made the decision to give her the second chance she so deserves. She's safe in her foster home now, where she’s learning to trust again, getting the zoomies, and finally playing a little each day. (Her name even comes from her signature "flip" over on her back to get belly rubs for as long as she can.)

We’re asking for your help to cover the expenses of her treatments so that she can make a full recovery. Your generosity will go directly toward her spay surgery, heartworm treatment, deworming, vaccinations, and ongoing vet care. Almost every dog who comes into our care requires these treatments (>$1,000) and we rely on your generosity to make this happen. Even the smallest donation will make a big difference in her journey.

Please help us show Flip that her past is behind her, and that a bright, healthy future is on the way.

Thank you for being a part of her new beginning!

PLEASE SHARE. Here are the 8 longest, canine residents starting with Lani and Xena. Lani and Xena are both volunteer favorites for their great demeanors and personalities. Xena is the go to dog to do the JPAWS obstacle course. I have personally spent a lot time with every single one of these dogs pictured, and they are all great.

For newer residents, there is a $67 adoption fee which includes vaccinations, required spay/neuter, microchip, and heartworm test. They are available for Adoption, Foster, or Rescue. There is a Foster Trial Period available before adopting. Please email Shannon at [email protected] with any questions.
