New Year's Eve celebrations can be just as stressful and scary for (people) and pets as the 4th of July. Here are some tips to remind you how to keep your pets safe and calm during this crazy end-of-year mayhem. 🎇🐾
It is a sad, unfortunate truth that we pet owners must prepare for the terror and anxiety forced on our pets by uncaring, disrespectful humans who choose to shoot off fireworks near our homes. Even in communities that have banned fireworks, the reckless behavior of some permeates our peace and tranquility. 💔🎆
The following are some tips to help pet owners prepare for a stressed or anxious pet:
1️⃣ Ensure that your pets are microchipped and have up-to-date information on their ID tags and collars. 📛🐕
2️⃣ Tire your pets out. Take your pups for an extra-long walk or ensure your cats get extended playtime. A tired pet is less likely to overreact to the stress. 🐕🦺🐾
3️⃣ Bring your pets inside! Close all doors and windows that may prove to be an escape. Close drapes and blinds. 🚪🪟
4️⃣ Consider a “Thunder-Shirt” or other anxiety wrap and get your pet comfortable wearing it BEFORE the stress begins. 🐶🩳
5️⃣ Keep your pets occupied with some fun interactive toys and treats. 🧸🍖
6️⃣ Muffle the noise with some calming music or white noise machines. 🎶🎛️
7️⃣ Move your pets to a windowless room (like an interior bathroom) once the noise begins to eliminate the possibility of them jumping through a window or glass door. 🚿🚪
8️⃣ Consult your veterinarian for other calming aides well in advance of the problem. 🩺💊

Tips to consider before donating to a favorite charity or non-profit organization.🤗
As a former non-profit executive, I needed to ensure that our investors understood the positive impact
their contribution made to our vision, mission, and goals. I thought I’d share with you some tips and tools
I learned along the way.👍🏻
✅Charity Navigator lists 1.6 million IRS-registered nonprofit organizations on their site. They rate 501
(c)(3) nonprofits, commonly referred to as charities – the only type of organization where your donation
is tax-deductible.
✅Understand the impact and results of your donation by reviewing financials and program expenses.
❓Why should donors care about their cost-per-outcome (CPO)?
✅According to Charity Navigator, there are several reasons why a donor would want to consider CPO
1️⃣ To ensure that the donor's head and heart are aligned in their giving.
2️⃣ A CPO can help a donor narrow down their choice of charities by looking for who makes the greatest impact to their beneficiaries.
❓Is the IRS form 990 listed on the Charity’s website?💻
This is an issue of transparency and will be a great indicator of the organization’s fiscal responsibility.
✅For a quick tutorial and an introduction to effective giving go to www.charitynavigator.org
They recommend the best way to maximize your impact as a donor, is to find charitable causes that are
big, neglected, and tractable.
✅Check out greatnonprofits.org a leading platform for community-sourced stories about non-
profits and their impact.
✅For Authoritative data derived from validated sources, including 990s and direct reporting—verified and
updated daily go to GuideStar.org and search 1.8 million IRS-recognized tax-exempt organizations and thousands of faith-based nonprofits. Gather insights on financials, people, their mission, and more.

Fun Facts about the Seahorse! 🐴🐟✨
Seahorses have a distinct look with a horse-like head, monkey-like tail, and a kangaroo-like pouch. Did you know only male seahorses have a brood pouch? 😲
Like a chameleon, they can change colors to blend in with their surroundings. 🥷🌿
There are 47 known seahorse species!🌍
Seahorses belong to the pipefish family. Since they’re not strong swimmers, they need a “hitching post” to cling to, like seagrass or branches.🌿
Seahorses and sea dragons are the only species where the male gets pregnant and gives birth! 🤯
🍽️ They mainly feast on small crustaceans like amphipods. Adults eat 30-50 times a day! Since they have no stomach or teeth, they suck their prey through a tubular snout 🧃👀.
📅 Average Lifespan: 1 – 5 years
📏 Average Size: ½ to 11+ inches (vertical); Pipefish up to 18 inches long
🍽️ Diet: Carnivore
🏠 Min. Habitat Size: 29+ gallons
🌡️ Water Temp: 74–80°F
Seahorses and pipefish can live happily with gobies, blennies, cardinals, filefish, and peaceful invertebrates 🦀🐙.
Always research new tankmates for compatibility! 🧐
Larger seahorse species are usually easier to care for. Great choices include the Tiger Tail seahorse 🐯, Kuda seahorse 🖤, and Yellow seahorse 💛.
Note: Seahorses are saltwater fish, except for a few brackish water species 🌊.

How to pack a Disaster Preparedness “GO” box for your pets 🐾🎒
When planning for a disaster, consider packing a “GO” box for each of your pets with all their essential items so you can simply pick up and GO in an emergency. 🚨
Use a waterproof container/tub and stock it with the following:
a) Food & water for at least 5 days, plus their bowls. 🍲💧
b) Medications and copies of pet medical records, proof of vaccinations, and ID tags. 🏷️💊
c) Current photos of your pets with their names and your phone number written on the back. 📸
d) First Aid kit. 🩹
e) Leashes, harnesses, pet carriers, tie-out leads, or portable pet fences PLUS paw protection. 🐕🐾
f) Pet waste tools – litter and a box, scoopers, poop bags, newspapers, towels, trash bags, and sanitizer/disinfectant. 💩📰
g) Toys, blankets, and calming treats/chews (helps with anxiety). 🧸🛏️
h) A solar radio/flashlight or lantern. 🔦
Stay informed with a pre-tuned radio or FEMA app on your phone. Know where to locate weather alerts and emergency info for your community. ☁️📻
Assume that the internet may be down, so your phone may not work during or immediately following a disaster. 📱

EGGS, to refrigerate or not?🥚
During the pandemic and with the rising cost of groceries, many of our clients started raising chickens and harvesting eggs for their families. Here are some fun facts about the chicken and the egg. 😷🐔🥚
1️⃣ Raising backyard chickens can be a rewarding experience and a great way to teach kids about nature, agriculture, and the responsibility of caring for animals. 🏡🌱🐣
2️⃣ Hens begin laying at around six months of age and can continue for five to 10 years, with peak production occurring in the first two years. 📅🐔
3️⃣ Hens will lay roughly six eggs each week. Egg production drops each year when hens molt (replace their feathers) and as daylight hours are lost. Hens need at least 12 to 14 hours of light each day to continue laying eggs. 🍂💡🌤
Fresh eggs come with a magical film from the hen called the cuticle or “bloom.” The cuticle seals the egg and helps to prevent bacteria from entering the very porous shell. It also helps to prevent moisture loss, which happens as eggs age. ✨🦠💧
Eggs that have not been washed and still have the cuticle intact can be stored safely without refrigeration for about two weeks. Eggs stored at room temperature will age faster. If you’re going to keep them longer than two weeks, it’s best to refrigerate them, they will keep for another two months refrigerated. Once eggs have been refrigerated, they need to stay refrigerated. If a refrigerated egg is left out at room temperature for a long period of time, it will start to “sweat.” 🧊💦

Introducing the Fun Fur U Kitten Corral!🐾🐱
With the ongoing pet "over-population" crisis 🌟 in our community, Fun Fur U took a proactive step this summer to launch our own program to assist our clients in reducing pregnancies and illnesses in their feral colonies.
The Fun Fur U Kitten Corral is a place for feral cats 🐈 and kittens 🍼 to come for wellness (meals 🍽️ and medication 💊 in a safe quarantine), recovery (after spay/neuter surgery ✂️), socialization (reduce the fear of humans 😺🤲), and prepare for adoption when appropriate 🏡.
To help fund this effort, we are asking our clients to "round-up" their pet care quotes to the nearest dollar 💸 and put that money towards our Kitten Corral program. We are donating our time ⏰ and space 🏠 to this effort as a way to give back to our community ❤️.
Stay tuned for more updates on our website and social media sites 📲!

As a professional pet sitter, I frequently get asked for my thoughts about pet insurance and which company is “the best”. Here are some helpful tips to consider while you shop your options for not only pet insurance but also pet preventative care programs. 🐾
1️⃣ Talk to your veterinarian 🩺 and ask them if they accept pet insurance and if they have any recommendations. Then, do your research. 📚
2️⃣ Check the fine print on the quote and ensure the policy will cover the medical care you’re expecting to be covered. Typical coverage and exclusions may list things like routine wellness, emergencies 🚨 (ie: urinary blockage), surgical (ie: torn acl), dental cleanings / extractions 🦷, chronic illness (ie: diabetes or cancer) and accidental injury (ie: dog bite, hit by a car), behavioral issues / training / treatments, breed specific conditions (ie: hip dysplasia) etc.
3️⃣ Understand the limits of coverage, your premium rates (does it increase every year) and the length of coverage and wait times ⏳ for coverage to begin. What is the renewal and cancellation policy?
4️⃣ Know what the claims process is. Is this a reimbursement policy or will they pay immediately? How long does the claims process take, what is the appeal process if your original claim is declined? 📝
I will be covering this topic in greater detail in a follow-up video. 📹
