Meet Terri Rohm, PHS certified saddle fitter serving Northern/Central California, Nevada, and Hawaii.

With over 15 years of professional saddle fitting experience and 30 years as a Holistic Trainer and Instructor in Classical Dressage and Jumping, Teri brings a unique blend of skill and insight to each saddle fitting.

Teri’s journey began with Master Saddlers over two decades ago, and it became clear just how vital a correctly fitting saddle is for both horse and rider. In 2018, she founded Saddle Fit Specialist to bring an independent and tailored approach to saddle fitting, filling a much-needed gap for riders in Northern California.

Working with Peter Horobin saddles, Teri can adjust the gullet plate on-site for the perfect fit and ensure proper shoulder clearance. She’s seen firsthand how these adjustments can transform a horse’s movement and performance, making every fitting session incredibly rewarding.

Whether you're a dressage enthusiast, jumper, or just want the best for your horse, Teri’s passion and experience ensure your horse’s comfort is always a priority.

I've recently been getting a lot of interest in our Endurance saddles and I almost always recommend the StrideFree® Flyer. With the wide, load-bearing panels and extra shoulder clearance, this saddle allows the horse to move freely, which makes a huge difference on challenging trails. Plus, the saddle is super lightweight without compromising on quality or adjustability.

The French Calfskin leather is incredibly soft—it feels broken in from the very first ride. And if you're tackling tough terrain and need a bit more stability, there's an option to add a larger skirt with a padded knee block.

I've also found it to be a great saddle for young horses just getting used to being under saddle. Its simple design and lightness make the whole experience positive right from the start.

Ultimately, it's all about building that strong connection with your horse. And anything that helps with quicker recovery after long rides is a win in my book!

Has anyone else tried the StrideFree Flyer? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

An independent Gait Analysis Study of the Peter Horobin Saddlery StrideFree Tree, conducted by LucyAnna Westaway from EquiLaterals, closely examined the effects of saddle fit on a horse’s movement, both in-hand and under saddle. The analysis utilized high-tech equipment to measure stride length, gait fluidity, and overall biomechanical function. Here are the main findings:

1️⃣ Saddle Fit’s Impact on Movement: Horses ridden in poorly fitted saddles displayed restricted movement, especially around the shoulder and back. This restriction led to shortened stride length and visible discomfort, ultimately affecting performance.

2️⃣ The Role of Proper Saddle Fit: Horses with correctly fitted saddles showed marked improvement in their gait. The study revealed longer, more fluid strides, better symmetry, and an overall increase in freedom of movement, allowing the horse to perform at its best.

3️⃣ Biomechanical Insights: The analysis also demonstrated how improper saddle fit can lead to imbalances in the horse’s biomechanics, potentially causing long-term musculoskeletal issues. Conversely, saddles that allow for full shoulder movement and proper weight distribution improved the horse’s natural balance and movement patterns.

4️⃣ Importance of Regular Gait Analysis: The study emphasized the importance of regularly assessing gait to ensure saddle fit remains optimal, especially as the horse’s body changes over time.

At Art2Ride Saddlery, we believe that understanding your horse’s movement is key finding the best-fitting saddle to unlock your horse’s full potential.

Sick of compromising comfort for your height?

Whether you’re a long-legged rider or on the shorter side, finding the right saddle can be a challenge. A poor fit can leave you feeling unstable and unbalanced, affecting your overall riding experience. But not anymore! Our new Art2Ride saddle is designed to provide the perfect solution for riders of all heights.

👉 Enhanced Stability: The Art2Ride saddle offers better stability, so you feel secure and in control during your ride.

👉 Centered Comfort: With a high yet smaller block, it helps keep your pelvis naturally centered, no matter your leg length.

👉 Adjustable StrideFree® Tree: Like all Peter Horobin saddles, our new saddle allows complete freedom of the horse’s shoulder movement, promoting a lengthened stride and greater comfort while in motion. Imagine trying to run with your shoulders pinned down—uncomfortable, right? Unfortunately, this is what many traditional saddles do to your horse.

Most saddles are built with rigid trees that can restrict the natural movement of the horse’s shoulders, causing discomfort, pain, and even behavioral issues. This restriction can lead to a hollow back, raised head, and a general sense of unease in your horse, impacting performance and overall well-being.

But what if there was a better way? The StrideFree® tree is a revolutionary design that’s all about freedom of movement. Unlike conventional saddles, the StrideFree® tree is carefully engineered to allow your horse’s shoulders to move naturally, without the pressure and pain caused by traditional saddle trees. The result? A happier, healthier horse that can perform at its best with greater ease and comfort.

Ready to see the difference? Contact us for a saddle assessment and give your horse the comfort it deserves.

You know what’s wild?? These two saddles measure the same at the “gullet.” Both measure over 7.5” and are considered extra wide (the bottom saddle is a draft saddle). You know what else is wild?? They are COMPLETELY different angles, and when customers shop for saddles, they are only told the gullet width. WIDTH and ANGLE are TWO DIFFERENT MEASUREMENTS!

🐴 There is no industry standardization on widths. Semi-QH, Full QH, Draft trees…can all be completely different across brands and makers.

📐 If your saddle pinches your horse at the top of the tree, chances are it is TOO WIDE rather than too narrow. Going for a “wider tree” will only cause your saddle to pancake onto your horse’s withers. Note- it is the ANGLE that is too wide.

🦄 Your saddle needs to be wide enough at the top (gullet width) to allow your horse’s shoulders to have a free and full range of motion

🐎 The width at the bottom of the tree should allow a base of support matching the angle of your horse’s back.

🌲 Just because it’s wider, doesn’t mean it’s better. It’s important to know the gullet width AND the measurements at the bottom of the tree and tree angle. The saddle at the top is 14” across the bottom and was too wide for the horse at 110 degrees. The saddle on the bottom measures 12.5” at the bottom and has a 94-degree angle allowing a good range of motion while keeping clear of the withers and cartilage on the shoulderblades.

❤️ There’s no way to ensure a saddle fits without trying it on the horse, but measurements can help you find the best options! 😃 Simple tracings can save you time and money!
