Thank you to everyone who has checked in on us. We live about 3 hours from the LA fires, and are safe. We are devastated for all of the people and animals who have been directly impacted by the fires, including many close friends and colleagues. Right now the focus should be on them—supporting them through this unimaginable experience.
Places to support:
needs monetary support to help the large influx of burned animals arriving at their shelter.
and have free adoptions right now to help clear space for incoming animals.
is doing animal evacuations for large and small animals and needs monetary support. **If you need help evacuating an animal, you can call them at (310) 808-5943**
is taking in animals and needs foster parents and donations.
Every rescue and shelter in the LA area can use additional foster parents, especially for large dogs and adult cats. Please be patient if it takes groups time to reply to you—everyone is scrambling and receiving an overwhelming volume of inquiries, and response times are understandably delayed. Still, if you can help, get your name on lists now. We’ve made ourselves available to intake some LA shelter animals, but we are being patient. The help will be needed for many weeks to come, and we’re ready whenever we get a call.
is also in communication with our LA partners (including ) about emergency grants for kittens over the coming weeks, which are always available to our partners impacted by natural disasters.
In the meantime, we have been sharpening our own fire evacuation plans, especially now that we have Sam (pictured here, judging me from the catio) who is feral and cannot be touched. In addition to keeping all our carriers at the door (as we always do), I’ve started feeding her out of a locked trap to increase the ease of catching her in the event that we would need to evacuate.
I’m going to stay a little quiet on social to give space for those who really need to be heard. But I’ll continue amplifying important posts in my story. Please feel free to tag other orgs in need below.
Sending deepest love.
