Wrapping up our for the year, we’re excited to share our amazing alumni: Kenai, Boogie, Tinker (now Boh), Poppy, and Ron! 😊

🐻 Kenai, our lovable guy full of personality, joined AWFP in October with his kennel mates from the euthanasia list. He adjusted wonderfully in his foster home and was adopted by a loving family, complete with the most awesome best bud!

⭐ Boogie was our longest-term fosters and part of the VMCVM teaching dog class of 2022. While his friends found homes, Boogie patiently waited for his turn. Taken into AWFP’s care in November 2022, he stayed with the most amazing fosters until his adoption this past March. His adoption was deeply heartwarming to all of us, and we’re over the moon to see him with his forever family.

🍁 Boh (previously Tinker), our very handsome man, joined us in December 2023. He’s come a long way from the shelter, made lots of friends at his foster home. He now spends his days with the best family and furry friends. He’s even acing obedience school—such a smart boy!

💐 Miss Poppy joined us in March and now loves her new family. We’ve heard she’s living the true cattle dog lifestyle, exploring the fields on her family’s farm and loving every moment 🥰

🧶 Last but certainly not least, sweet Ron joined AWFP in March with Luna. This cuddly, orange boy found an amazing family so quickly, and we’re so excited to see him truly shine in his forever home 🧡

We hope everyone has had a wonderful holiday season and is settling in for the New Year! As the end of 2024 approaches, we’re thrilled to highlight a few more AWFP alumni who found their forever homes this year. Meet our adopted friends: Coconut (now Eloise), Fleetfoot (now Murphy), Mofu, and Lenny!

🌴 Eloise (formerly Coconut) joined AWFP in November in rough shape, dealing with upper respiratory issues and needing a little extra love. With plenty of TLC, she transformed into the sweetest girl we all adored—and her foster couldn’t let her go. Eloise is now happily at home with her forever family.

🪴 Murphy (formerly Fleetfoot) came to us in April and didn’t wait long to find his perfect match. His parents absolutely adore him and we couldn’t be happier for this handsome boy!

🍙 Mofu joined AWFP in July after being rescued as a stray by a kind samaritan. This little cutie didn’t stay with us for long… she quickly found her forever home, where she now enjoys life to the fullest (including sweet naps with her canine bestie) 💝🦮

⛱️ Lenny was rescued from the euthanasia list in October and welcomed into the care of a wonderful foster. It didn’t take long for her to fall head over heels for him—and like so many happy endings, Lenny stayed right where he was 🫶

Merry Christmas Eve! These three lucky kiddos are celebrating the holiday season out of the shelter and in the warmth of their loving forever homes ❤️ Today’s festive feature Teelo, Salem, and Tulip!

🎄One of our first fosters of 2024, Teelo joined us in January. It took longer than we expected for this sweet and affectionate boy to find his match, but it was all worth it! His patience led him straight to the perfect family. Just look at him now—his smile says it all as he enjoys life with his best friends.

🎅 Spooky little Salem came to AWFP in October, just in time for Halloween. Despite his festive Halloween vibes, he didn’t scare anyone off! He quickly found a loving home with a mom who absolutely adores his sweet and playful personality. Now, he’s trading his spooky look for some holiday cheer.

🎁 One of three flowery fosters we welcomed in September, Tulip has truly found her place in her forever home. This playful girl is thriving with her new best friend, and we couldn’t be more excited for her.

We’re back with three more heartwarming , featuring some of our adorable alumni: Banjo & Fiddle (formerly Macaroni & Rotini), Luna, and Cooper!

🍝 These sweet orange boys, Macaroni & Rotini (now Banjo and Fiddle) joined us this past September and quickly proved that, like pasta servings, two is always better than one! We’re thrilled they’ve found their forever home together.

🌙 Our lovely Luna came to us as a foster in March and was the final member of our Harry Potter trio to find her perfect family. She’s now thriving in a home with her best friend.

🍄 Rescued from the euthanasia list in October, this lovable boy has started a brand new chapter. Cooper now enjoys life surrounded by a family that absolutely adores him.

Our next two stories feature Nala and Cricket!

👑 Nala joined AWFP in June and stayed with two of our wonderful fosters. Upon arrival, she was underweight and stressed… but with lots of patience and tons of TLC, Nala blossomed into the sweetest girl. Now, she’s thriving in her forever home with her favorite humans and her furry best friend. We couldn’t be happier to see how far she’s come!

🌿 Cricket (now Finn!) came into our care just this past November. This playful boy, packed with personality, quickly bonded with his foster—and the feeling was mutual! So naturally, he found his forever home with her 🫶

It’s that time of the year again when we take a look back on 2024 — what a year it has been ✨ This year has been extra special because 2024 marked our 20th anniversary 💚 To commemorate this milestone, we set our hearts on adopting out 24 animals this year… and thanks to everyone’s incredible support, we were able to find 37 wonderful cats and dogs their forever homes 🏡❤️

To continue to celebrate, we’re spending the rest of December highlighting some of our 2024 alumni and sharing their with you. Starting with… Clover and Maisie!

🍀 Clover was our sweet pink-nosed kitten taken in by AWFP this past September. This affectionate boy is absolutely adored by his owner, who spoils him with all the toys and love 🧡

🎀 Miss Maisie was a stray taken in by a good Samaritan this summer. After some time adjusting to home life with her foster, her playful personality truly began to shine! Maisie has since been adopted by a wonderful family where she has both human and furry friends to play with. We’ve heard that she’s simply, “livin’ her best life” 😎☀️

We’re so excited to support our friends at the Pulaski Animal Shelter again through our Angel Tree 🐾💖🎄 As a vital part of our community and a wonderful example of compassion for animals, Pulaski inspires us all 🐶🐱

Our Angel Tree is located in the Commons of the vet school. Each ornament lists essential items—ranging from small, everyday necessities to monetary donations—that help keep the shelter running smoothly. While traditional Angel Trees encourage taking an ornament, we kindly ask that you leave them on the tree so everyone can see the needs listed!

You can leave your donations under the tree, and we’ll be accepting them until December 13th. Last year, we were overwhelmed by the generosity of our community 💕, and we can’t wait to make another meaningful impact this year!

Zoe's big adventure!🐾🏙💗

Last week, a volunteer took Zoe on a big adventure around town! 💗She went to the pet store, the park, downtown Blacksburg, and on campus. She was a perfect girl who did great in the store (even eyeing some things for her Christmas list this year 👀), rides well in the car, and enjoyed all the new sights and smells.

MEET VINNIE! Vinnie a goofy gentle giant 3yo pup that is about 60 pounds. He is leashed trained and perfectly potty trained. As a very smart boy, he already knows a variety of commands such as sit, stay, down, shake, and sit pretty. Vinnie is also crate trained and loves to hang out in his crate even when the door is open.

Kenai says it might be November, but the party’s *far* from over! Halloweekend just kicked off, and he’s ready to pawty hard—with a wardrobe to prove it! 🎉👻

Don’t let his devil costume fool you; Kenai is nothing short of an angel 😇 Since leaving the shelter, this sassy, playful pup has let his personality shine. He loves romping with his foster brother, tearing up toys, and especially *loves* peanut butter 🥜 A little shy at first, Kenai warms up fast… especially if there’s peanut butter involved! Did I mention he *really* loves peanut butter? 😋

At 1 year and 10 months old and around 53 pounds, Kenai is the perfect blend of playful and sweet 🐾 He gets along well with other pups, cats, and is adjusting wonderfully to home life, crate time, and learning commands. He’s neutered, vaccinated, and ready to find his forever family🏡❤️
