European Open 2024 🌟
Yet another successful, medal winning year at the European Open for SO Agility’s Euan Paterson and Crazee, taking home individual bronze for the second year running 🥉
The weekend started with the team event. Crazee started with a lovely clear in the jumping round and the team progressed to the agility round in a good position. Unfortunately luck wasn’t on their side at all with a few very random errors knocking them out of the team event.
Then they moved onto the individual competition. Crazee nailed the jumping round, winning the class and qualifying her for the final! In the final Crazee was on fire, absolutely flying round the course. A major blunder happened at jump 18, Crazee turning right instead of left, they managed to cling on and fix the error costing them valuable time. Even with the error they still managed to hold onto a podium finish, coming home with the bronze medal 🥉
It was a successful year for Team GB as a whole, topping the medal table with 6 medals!!

Huge congratulations to Pascale Burnet who recently won the Thistle Cup final at Granite City 🏆
Pascale has been an online coaching student with SO Agility since November 2023 and has worked so hard over these months, showing that dedication, focus and structured training can really pay off!!
This is her first season competing with Hector, starting in grade 1, already racing up the grades and winning her first ever final!

It was great to get this video today of them showing our instructor Fiona just what they are made of!
Molly is definitely a not for the faint hearted spaniel and Ian her owner is super keen and turns up every week to show us all how it’s done!
We are currently teaching her to weave! Watch this space as I expect the weaves aren’t going to give Ian much catch up time either 🚀 🚀
Agility is just jumps and tunnels!
You’ll often hear me say this, what I mean is don’t stress about it. It’s something fun to do with your dogs, right?
But Agility TRAINING for us here at SO Agility that’s so much more than just jumps and tunnels. This mornings groups tackled young dogs working independently with confidence. Young dogs pairing the idea they need to interact with the obstacles to get their rewards 💥
Our novice group tackled some tricky weave skills and again looked at independence and layering! Independent skills feature highly in our training 🤩
And our lovely group of older handlers are teaching their dogs to weave using a treat and train. This method avoids our handlers having to throw toys with perfect aim and timing but also keeps up the idea we want these dogs working away from their handlers 🚀
Alongside all of this there is so much general dog training going on. Dogs learning to sit quietly and watch and wait their turns, handlers learning how to maintain drive and forward focus using the reward their dog loves and yes sometimes this can be food used carefully with correct timing! We have a young dog learning that being touched is ok even when she is in high arousal and handlers learning all the time how to make steps forwards in their dog training challenges!
So our weekly training classes, they are definitely not just jumps and tunnels 👌🏻
