❤️🩹 HAPPY 8th ANNIVERSARY TO SOUTH LYON MURPHY ANIMAL RECOVERY!!!!❤️🩹
Yup! We’ve been doing this now for 8 years!!!
Let’s take it back for a moment!
How we got started- in our community. We had a post and urgent plea about a German Shepherd dog that was hit by a car. Come to find out this dog had been roaming the area for quite some time. Once the community started chatting, everyone decided we had to do something to help this little dog. With multiple people seeing her on a daily basis, we knew she was dumped. So a couple of us stepped up to secure the German Shepherd that was hit by the car.
How did we get our name? There was one particular person who kept continuously commenting on the progress and asking questions about what our next steps were in saving this dog‘s life. That person‘s name on Facebook was Murphy Cavanaugh. After setting up a Feeding Station and getting our first hit, we decided that this little dog needed a name, and as this person kept asking, we named the dog Murphy. This touched Mama Cav and since that moment- she has always been a part of us. ❤️🩹❤️🩹💓💓
Mama Cav- I hope we honor Murphy with the work we do and keep his memory whole. ❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹💓💓💓💓💓
Below is our VERY FIRST SLM video ever!!! Since then, we have recovered hundreds of animals, we work cases across the U.S. and collaborate with some of the most amazing people!!!! We have been on the News, in People Magazine, USA Today as well as all internet platforms across the globe! For a little group we are mighty!!!!
We have lost 4. These 4, I carry with me and work hard to do better, be better and be faster. We strive to keep on top of new tech that will assist us in saving lives. We continue to care for and bring animals into our care when we can.
On behalf of everyone here, we want to THANK YOU!!! Thank you for always supporting and loving us!!!! Without you- we are nothing.

⚠️⚠️⚠️ Skunk Alert!!! ⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️
‼️ A public service announcement ‼️
February Through early March is skunk breeding season. Before you let your dogs out, make a little noise and give skunks time to move out of your yard.
If you come face to face with a skunk, stay calm and talk softly to let him know you’re there -- skunks have poor eyesight. Skunks are very sweet natured animals and don’t want to spray you. Go about your business and avoid startling them.
Skunks will give you several warnings if they are scared:
1. They will stomp their front feet - this is so cute!
2. They turn their backs to you - take a step in the opposite direction
3. They will do a handstand
4. They will spray up to 10 feet away
If a skunk DOES spray, here is a technique and recipe:
First, catch the dog (or the person!) as quickly as possible - don’t let them roll or rub on anything. If you have rubber gloves wear them. BLOT the spray off with paper towels.
Mix a paste from 1 teaspoon Dawn dish soap, 3% hydrogen peroxide and ¼ cup baking soda and spread it on the area. Do not add water! Let it sit for ten minutes then rinse off and repeat.
If this happens to be on a human or hairless animal, leave out the baking soda. The baking soda is sort of like an exfoliant and is really abrasive to bare skin.
Skunks are omnivores (eat both plant and animal material). They prefer to eat insects, particularly grasshoppers, beetles, and crickets. They also eat grubs and other insect larvae as well as bees and wasps. When the opportunity arises, they will take mice, rats, moles, shrews, young ground squirrels and rabbits, nesting birds, nestlings, and bird or snake eggs. Skunks also eat corn, berries, and other vegetation. In an urban environment, they may eat garbage or pet food that has been left outside. ⚠️⚠️
Mating season is upon us for our wildlife. Let’s all share our space and life scheduled other!!! Furry and human ❤️🩹❤️
FROM KARI- great video!!! She’ll be doing our videos from now on-
❤️🩹 While I focus my efforts on Wildlife rehab & domestic rescue transports - I saw Peter’s post & knew I had to help. I’m thankful for South Lyon Murphy Lost Animal Recovery - her support & use of equipment. I tracked Buddy for 17 days & last night it paid off! I’ve met so many wonderful people & new friends on a mission to reunite Buddy & Peter. As a Rehabber, people bring animals to me .. tracking animals is entirely different. Extreme cold weather, emotional highs/lows & sleepless nights watching a camera. Thank you to the wonderful community on Bowen Rd. And to Deb, Heather, Linda, Sarah, Barb, Ruthann, Robin, Jen, Carrie, Dee & I’m sure I’m missing others … thank you for being that watchful eye on Bowen & surrounding areas! Welcome home BUDDY ❤️ #animalrescue #southlyonmurphy #wecandomoretogether
❤️🩹❤️🩹Happy Gotcha Day Buddy!!! ❤️🩹❤️🩹
AFTER 17 DAYS, BUDDY THE CAR ACCIDENT KITTY IS RECOVERED!!! ❤️🩹
This guy was with his dad, Peter, when dad hit some ice and got into an accident. Hitting the side of the bank the back hatch opened and scared Buddy ran!!! From that point on, Peter was frantic. He posted all over and then YOU GUYS, reached out on his behalf. ❤️🩹❤️🩹 You see Peter is going through a tough time right now and is trying to get back on his feet. His resources were limited but that didn’t stop him from driving and searching everyday……… for the last 17 days.
We had quite a followers involved in this recovery, Deb who was helping Peter, Linda who kept an eye out and finally saw him, and Kari who was lead on the case, she does wildlife and this is her first recovery!!!! Kari was out doing feeding stations, hanging flyers with Peter, Dee and Sarah helped out as well.To say that people stepped up for Peter and his little cat is an understatement. YOU CAME IN FULL FORCE. ❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹 All for a stranger. ❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹
This is how I keep going, BECAUSE of all of you.
Kari was a pro and wanted to know everything. To say she’s a rockstar is an understatement. I know we’re going to get into a lot of trouble going forward!!! She talked to sooooo many people and worked her butt off. I’m so very proud of her.
Back to buddy- a few nights ago Linda was at her house and saw this fella in her yard and messaged right away. Kari wasted no time- cams and food went out. Next night, we had hit. So we moved to phase 2, trapping. The first night buddy came but didn’t go in, circled. Around the back only. So we threw it on safe and added a different food. He engaged it. So tonight, trap went on live. Of course we had a raccoon first which I was able to scare away, then Buddy….. Took him a few and he was taking his time. Then BOOM-
The heated bowls have had many visitors. All the furries and I even saw the birds drinking. Enjoy this video of this lil rascal getting a drink!!! He’s one of my regular’s. ❤️🩹
❤️🩹❤️🩹 This guy is one life that YOUR donations will save!!!! He will be fully vetted and given a second chance at life. He’s a young fella not more than a year. Dumped by his previous humans, he will be made whole again by our SLM family. ❤️🩹❤️🩹 He’s inside and scared right now but I will be working with him to show him, he’s not trash but a beautiful diamond that just needs some time to shine. ❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹
Just trapped this guy and brought him. He was so cold it took 15 seconds. Not sure what to do with him but for now, he’s warm in a crate.
‼️‼️FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE❄
‼️‼️URGENT WARNING: Protect Your Animals from Extreme Cold Temperatures ❄As dangerously frigid temperatures settle into the region this week, animal owners are strongly urged to take immediate action to ensure the safety and well-being of their pets and livestock.
‼️Prolonged exposure to freezing temperatures can cause serious harm, including frostbite and hypothermia, and in some cases, can be life-threatening.For Companion Animals (Dogs, Cats, etc.):
🐶 Dogs left outside in frigid weather cannot survive these conditions. Even short periods of exposure to extreme cold can be fatal for dogs, particularly smaller or short-haired breeds. It is crucial that pets are brought inside, and provided with warm, dry, and safe shelter.
🐱 While outdoor cats tend to be more resourceful, seeking shelter when necessary, they too require special care. Ensure that your outdoor cats have access to safe, warm spaces or insulated shelters to protect them from the bitter cold.
For Livestock (Including Poultry and Horses):🐴 It's not just companion animals that need protection during extreme cold. Livestock—including horses, cattle, goats, and poultry—also require special care. All livestock need a well-ventilated, dry shelter to shield them from the cold and wind. A simple windbreak or a three-sided shelter can provide much-needed protection.‼ Key tips for caring for livestock during extreme cold:
➡ Provide Adequate Shelter: Livestock must have a structural shelter with proper ventilation to avoid frostbite and cold-related illnesses. Dry bedding, such as straw, will help insulate legs and hooves from frostbite.➡ Offer Extra Food: Animals burn more calories in extreme cold to keep warm. Increase the amount of feed provided to ensure they have enough energy to maintain bod
❄️❄️☃️☃️baby it’s cold outside!! ❄️❄️☃️☃️
Animals are just trying to survive in this cold- the next 2 months will make or break them. Sadly a lot won’t survive.
But you CAN HELP!!!
Get a few electro kennels and a house. These will keep their feet and under belly warm.
Get some heated bowls and keep food and water out. They will be thankful to find a meal as eating is non existent right now.
If you see them huddled by the house, go in a different direction so they can be warm and safe for a little awhile.
The extreme cold does keep their critters staying in their spots but the ones who are new, need our help.
Cats will be out. Please leave them food and water. Life expectancy of an outdoor cat is only 1-3 years UNLESS they have a caregiver.
We’ve all been down, broke, went without meals, wore shoes with holes and somewhere on our path, we were blessed with help.
Animals lives are no different.
The smallest act of kindness can make the biggest difference. And for the next two months, I can literally mean life or death.
❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹Happy Gotcha Day Bridgette!!!❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹
This lil kitty ran out of the house right before Thanksgiving. The family saw her a few days later and tried to get her but she ran.
They threw a trap out and tried a bunch of stuff that didn’t work. Then mom reached out to me, sadly though, they are down in Wyandotte, about an hour and half from me.
However, we run cases remote!!!!!
So we started helping mom, gave guidance to be able to get things moving in the right direction.
We had a few kitties coming regularly and about 2 weeks ago, Brigette showed up!! She ate but did not engage the trap.
Mom got lucky and found a trap from a super nice lady down river to loan her the good equipment. I know a lot of folks run to the store and buy the bad equipment without experience in knowing, that equipment fails.
Bridgette returned a few more times never engaging the trap. I knew then, we needed a bigger trap. With luck, the lady actually had a fat cat trap too!!! So mom switched the traps, covered it with her favorite dogs blanket and sweet Bridgette cane last night.
On pins and needles mom watched as she went around it, sniffing at the food, then WALKED RIGHT IN.
This recovery took over 30 days. They did NOT give up. They followed the advice and as a team we recovered this sweet girl. She’s skinny and has a boo boo on her bum but she’s happy to be home!!!!
Welcome Angie and family to our gotcha club!!!! And with great joy- ❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹
HAPPY GOTCHA DAY BRIGETTE !!!! 💜💜
❤️🩹❤️🩹 Happy Gotcha Day Pepe!!! ❤️🩹❤️🩹
This guy just got transport from TX and went home with the fosters. By the time they got home, Pepe chewed his slip lead and when the fosters opened the car door, he raced right by them.
Sadly, this rescue has done nothing to help them, give advice or even care.
Even worse, this isn’t the first dog that was lost that they’ve done this to these new fosters. And this was a rescue we here were very close too.
Luckily, the foster mom called us right away and we were able to move quickly. Little buddy came from Texas and I don’t think he was used to that 9 degree weather there. 😂
As of now, he’s inside and safe, decompressing and will go to the foster that has his brother. Sadly the new fosters now are unsure if they want to foster again. I assured them that not all rescues were like this one and don’t give up. But st the same time, not hearing from anyone and getting no help is not how you treat fosters.
For now, congratulations Alina and Chris, you are new to this rescue world, and we welcome you to the club you had no idea existed!! And Happy Gotcha Day Pepe!!!! ❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹
Sam is peeking underneath the tree seeing if there’s any presents for him.
There’s not any yet but we’re sure hoping we can get some under there. Right now we are very low on litter, fancy feast, chicken, pate, and the dry foods. We’re hoping we’ll have some left in order to get some toys for all of our 40 fosters so everybody here can have a good Christmas.
If anybody has some spare dollars and would like to help out our little recovery group, we sure would appreciate it !! Thank you all for your love and support the entire year and everything that everybody does to help us.❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹This little kitty sure is cute and he brings a lot of joy when he goes to the senior centers for therapy. ❤️🩹❤️🩹
