Last Chance For Enrolment ❤🐾

I invite you and your dog to participate in an experience that will help you trust yourselves and each other more, and give you the confidence to live the life you envision together.

So you can hear your intuition more and you can become the guide for your dog as well as for yourself.

If you have been thinking of registering for the You And Your Dog program, you have today to join.

We are starting this week. There are 2 class times to choose from. You can attend Tuesdays at 10am PT or Wednesdays at 6pm PT.

You will be building an all-encompassing foundation of skills, as well as a framework of principles that can guide you to teach the dogs everything you wish they could learn.

Here are are the tangible skills you will be teaching your dog:

THE 5 ESSENTIAL LIFE SKILLS

🔹HARD BOUNDARIES - for keeping your dog in the yard, the vehicle and the house. They will learn to do this without being told. It can also be applied to sidewalks and road shoulders - so they won't go on the road without permission.

🔹LEASHWORK - your dog will learn to be aware of their tension on the leash. It means you can walk together with less strain and discomfort. So you enjoy walking together and feel more comfortable.

🔹STOP - your dog learns to stop in place. You can "freeze" them when you want to, to create safety on the spot. It can make more freedom, and give you more confidence when your dog is loose.

🔹RECALL - you build 5 tools for recall. So you have something you can apply in every situation. You will have multiple ways to connect with your dog, for maximum safety.

🔹MANNERS - so your dog knows how to handle social situations with people. You can trust them more and include them in the things you want to do together.

These 5 essential life skills create a safety net that gives you confidence to really live the life you want to with your dog.

✨You get more freedom and trust yourselves to handle the unexpected things that come up.

 * * *

This is only part of the curriculum we will cover. There are principles and skills that increase your understanding, and get you prepared for everything that happens when you're out there in the world.

You can find out all the details here: You And Your Dog: Creating the life you want together in equal partnership

It would be wonderful to share these teachings with you and watch you and your dog growing together.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about the program, and I will share all the answers and support I have.

I hope you and your dog can be there. You can find all the details and registration in the link in the comments below ↓

The You And Your Dog program gives you more stability. It is for you and your dog being less shakable out there in the world together.

We might just think of dog training as teaching a set of commands that we can use to tell our dogs what to do. That give us control so we can decide what happens and when it happens.

If you have ever attempted to do that, to control your dog whenever you need to, you might have found the same thing I did.

You might have found that there are times when it is actually impossible to tell your dog exactly what to do. Whether you've practiced or not, whatever method you use, is seems there is no way to promise that you can get your dog to do the something precisely as and when you want it.

This gets in the way of our having fun, going on adventures, trying new things and bringing our dogs to as many places with us as we wish we could. Because we can't predict them and we can't control what is going to happen.

The problem isn't that we don't have good enough control of our dogs. It's actually that we don't know how to handle it when things are not in our control.
-------
I have developed shamanic dog training so we can have a way that helps us through the unpredictable and uncertain times with our dogs.

Which, depending where you and your dog are at, could be a lot of the time. Particularly when you are exposed to the world and every unforeseen thing that comes up.

We aren't just working on command after command, and trying to develop crystal clear control. Because life isn't always clear. It is often murky.

Shamanic dog training provides us with roots that deeply support us and hold us in all the circumstances. Like the tree that can bend with the blowing wind, you can feel less intimidated when life's conditions get moving.

We won't just have the lessons that work on leash skills and recall and the precision of STOP. We will also take a look at the worst case scenarios that scare us.

You will have the fluidity to move with the winds and not break under the pressure of changing situations.

I want you and your dog to do all the things you want to do. But you'll have to be ready. Because it might not always look how you expected it would be. And you will need to switch your tactics. To adapt to what's happening.

We can do that together. It looks like the You And Your Dog program. It's a 16-week program and we meet weekly for live sessions in real time.

You can get the life you want with your dog. Even if it doesn't look exactly as you expected. But you'll know what to do. And your dog will trust you. So you'll have confidence in each other.

Please join us. We start from the beginning and you'll get every step on the way. You need nothing in advance and it all fits right into your daily life.

It is practical and simple.

It is easy to carry with you, and you can make it yours. So it suits wherever you are and whatever you need from it.

I hope you can be there. Tell me if you have any questions, of if there's something that can help you show up.

Thank you for listening.

I am grateful to share this with you. Please give your dog a smooch from me. ♥🐾

✨There's one day for enrolment left ☺ ✨

👉Three [free] classes (online) that might make a difference ✨🐾

🌻THE FIRST ONE IS LEASHWORK, where we explore the idea you might not know about why your dog pulls on the leash. And by basing your lessons on that one awareness, everything makes sense for you and your dog.

- It’s how you get dragged and je**ed less, and especially how you don’t get such big slams when you’re pointed in the other direction.

🥇THE SECOND ONE IS FOR RECALL, so you can feel more safe in the world with your dog. Whether it’s in your yard with your dog keeping a piece of garden hose away from you or when your dog just can’t come back to the car at the end of a walk.

- It’s for the simple things as well as the really big things. Feeling more safe helps you and your dog get out there more, to feel more confident that it won’t be impossible to get your dog back.

😊OUR LAST SESSION IN THIS FREE SERIES IS WITH CALMING AND CONNECTING. This is about the way of being that you and your dog have together. There’s an underlying space that supports you both in every area, and you can make it stronger and easier to access for when you need it.

- Learn teachings that build calm and connection, to help when your dog is bouncing non-stop at the little girl at the park. And when your dog barks endlessly at the neighbour’s dog.

🙌We start in a couple of weeks. If you feel like any of these can be helpful, please register and save your spot.

🙏You can share it if you think there are others who might benefit. It would be greatly appreciated!

💛Helping dogs with fireworks - knowledge is empowering 🎇🎇

Dogs find fireworks scary. 😮It's the booming and the thundering and the sense of imminent crashing.

They don't know what's happening and it can feel like the world is falling apart.

🌙One of the best things to help your dog with fireworks is to help them understand what's going on and what they're experiencing. So they can create meaning for themselves about the pounding and squealing in the sky.

What can you tell them that will stop them imagining that something terrible is about to take place?

The truth always helps. ✔Clear practical information.

→Start with the basics, maybe something simple like the 5 W's:
• WHY is it happening? because it makes people happy and they want to celebrate this special occasion
• WHAT is going on? there's massive streaks and bursts of colour and sparkle lighting up the sky
• WHERE is it? it's in the sky and it all stays there. It doesn't ever come in the house or come into contact with anything on the Earth (like people or dogs)
• HOW is it made? it's fuel and powder that gets ignited and produces the booming and shaking
• WHO is watching it? most everyone likes to watch fireworks. Humans find them beautiful and awe-inspiring. It feels like magic.
• WHEN does it stop? it is temporary and usually stops after about 30 minutes

🦉This kind of information can empower your dog. It helps them create ownership of their experience and helps them feel less apprehension and uncertainty.

🕯When you explain details to your dog, they are seen and heard and supported; they get to be included and acknowledged.

It's one of the strategies you'll find in the free Halloween guide for dogs.

🤎🐾If you found this helpful and would like to get the rest of the strategies - to make your dog more comfortable and less stressed - you are invited to get it here:

For supporting dogs who are going blind 💗🐾

Here is a video with 2️⃣ ways I helped Peasie feel more comfortable on walks with me and while she was out in the world.

Peasie adjusted beautifully to be blind. Although she was scared at first, eventually most people didn’t realize she was even blind when they encountered her.

She functioned really well and got around great, with me as her seeing eye person.

If you have any questions about a dog who is losing their eyesight, I’d be happy to share mine and Peasie’s experiences when she went blind 🙂🐶

21/07/2024

I saw a junco flying out of our back yard a while ago. The direction of its path made me think it had been at our dogs’ and cat’s water dish.

As I watched it, I sensed it connecting with me. I felt it ask if I could provide water for it and others of it’s kind, the way I did for my animals, Hannah and Anieko and Sophia.

I agreed with it right away. I was grateful to be asked.

I found a spare water dish, put wood chips in it and filled it with water. I thought the wood chips would keep creatures from falling in the water.

Later I saw the junco near the water bowl I set out for it.

This request added to the water sources that we always have around our yard for the animals and birds and insects that pass by.

Since that encounter with the junco, I now maintain 7 watering stations around our yard – 2 for the dogs and cat, and 5 for wildlife.

There’s the bucket for the big animals and 2 bowls with woodchips for the smalls. Also the bowl with a large stone in it that we’ve always had out and a shallow plate and bowl with woodchips for the insects.

Now that it's so hot in our area (42°C as I type), it feels especially important to have these water sources available.

I am not sure why, but the bucket of water never seems to get touched. I refill and maintain them all every day.

The squirrels and birds use the woodchip bowls a lot. The woodchip plate always has a few insects resting and drinking – although they seem to suck from the wet pieces of wood more than drink directly from the water.

I am pretty certain that I’m not the only one who is providing a bit of support for the wild creatures that live near me. I would love for you to share what you are doing to care for the wild ones close to you. 🦋🐿🐝

What small dogs can't do

A man on our walk today shared his observation that our Sophia, a small dog, was unlikely to be able to run up the steep hills to follow Anieko.

He made several comments as both dogs climbed all over the faces and edges of the landscape.

He was surprised as, each time, mid-sentence, Sophia displayed her athleticism and strength. She would scale the gorge and walk the narrow ledges where just her feet would fit.

It was a fun feeling to watch Sophia dismantle this man's pre-conceptions about "small dogs" and what they are capable of.

What small dogs can't do, is conform to our ideas that they are less brave or intelligent or practical than larger dogs of the same species. They cannot remain helpless and limited, when they're given a chance to develop and explore their world with the same supervision we give all our dogs.

I loved observing the smile and joy on the man's face as he realized that Sophia was much more than he originally credited her with, merely because of her size.

Thank you Sophia, and all the small dogs, who are out there bucking the stereotype and making life their own.

❤😊🐾

I am sharing a special experience I was gifted with last week while teaching week 8 in my You and Your Dog group program.

I was explaining the lesson I was teaching, and I said a few times that it is a weird lesson in some ways. I designed it to suit both the dog and person as individuals and as a partnership, which is a big aspiration.

After a few times of me saying "this is a weird thing to teach, but if we stay with it - it pays off and it works".

One of the women said "we're here for the weird!"

It was so reassuring to receive. My methods are so different, and I always hope my clients will trust me enough to follow me to these special places and ideas I've found and want to share.

She was saying, in essence, that she was here because of my weirdness. Not in spite of it.

It feels good to be with people who match with me and want to go all the way with me. Rather than someone who only hopes they can use me to solve whatever problem they're having, but don't really believe in the vision I offer.

I am honoured to share this path with the wonderful people and dogs I spend time with 🤎🐾

What is shamanic dog training?

Shamanic dog training is born from a lifetime of searching for an alternative to the old ways of dog training. Methods like clicker training, dominance theory, shock collars, behaviour modification, positive reinforcement – they all left me with a sense that I was not reaching the most important part of the my dogs. It felt like I was missing the part that was truly them –missing their soul, their spirit, their mind, their heart, their consciousness.

Traditional dog training doesn’t tap into our dog’s innate awareness and consciousness, their mental and emotional intellect. Shamanic dog training bridges that gap, teaching our dogs from the place of love, spirit, kindness and support. These qualities have come to mean weakness and ineffectiveness in our society, but they are still the most powerful tools of all.

With shamanic dog training, you develop a lifestyle with your dog that includes them completely in your life. You become a team, becoming closer each day through the daily experiences you share. They can communicate with you, and you with them, beginning a new era of letting dogs take their rightful place in our lives as companions, partners and friends.

We all wish we could connect to our dogs at a much deeper level. That we can touch their spirit, their soul, their heart with ours. We sense that when we are loving them, playing with them, running with them, sleeping with them. But we don’t always maintain that sense when we are training them.
