We've become aware of an animal scam targeting our neighbors. Scammers are responding to missing pet posts, claiming to have found the animals, then asking for money to return them.

Stay safe with the following tips:
❌ Never send money or give out your personal information (like your address) to someone you don't know.
✅ Verify Claims: Always verify the legitimacy of anyone claiming to have found your pet.
🤝 Meet in Safe Places: If you decide to meet someone to retrieve your pet, do so in a public, well-lit area with others present.
📲 Report Suspicious Activity: Report any suspicious messages or requests for money to local authorities immediately.

Let's keep our community safe and ensure our beloved pets find their way home without falling victim to scams.

At DACC, we believe well-loved pets and their families belong together, and that veterinary costs shouldn’t separate them.

The provides care vouchers up to $300 for veterinary care. This help is available to residents in unincorporated LA County and our 45 contract cities.

Care vouchers can also be used to assist with pet food, training, temporary boarding for pet owners experiencing homelessness, or other challenges pet owners have in keeping their pets.

Princess A5214853: This dame has an incredibly beautiful fawn with a black tipped coat. Princess has a calm, yet engaging personality. She is easy to leash and walks well on leash with occasional light to moderate pulling. She is interested in her surroundings and sniffed all around the care center grounds and play yard. She is listed as 40 lb., German Shepherd Siberian Husky mix that is about 7 years old. Her turquoise eyes are truly captivating. She has been at the care center since May 10, 2024, and was an owner surrender. She minded her own business when walking past kenneled barking dogs. If you would like a companion that has a keen eye on her surroundings yet is independent and seems to be able to keep a steady composure, come adopt her!

PS: You may be able to meet her this this weekend (June 15, 2024) at the Heart to Home adoption event at William H Hart Park in Santa Clarita.

Here is her link to the Care Center:

Lancaster Animal Care Center 5210 West Avenue I, Lancaster, CA 93536 (661) 940-4191 Lancaster Shelter serves Lake Elizabeth, parts of Lake LA, Lake Hughes, Lancaster, Leona Valley & Quartz Hill. Please call the shelter RIGHT AWAY if you are interested in adopting any of the dogs we post. If you are interested in adopting a "dominant breed" (Pit/Rott./Mastiff/Chow/Sharpei), call between the hours of 7am and 7pm Mon-Thu and 10am-5pm Sat/Sun., ask the call center to request a temperament evaluation, OR transfer you to an officer in charge at the CARE CENTER directly so you can "request a temperament evaluation" through them. This is for the purpose of adoption (required prior to adoption on dominant breeds). If you are local adopter (within CA/reasonable distance to come in to adopt), you CAN do this over the phone (you will be an "IP"/interested party). Here is the DACC's OWN policy wording which you can READ to the operator should they decline your request to request an evaluation over the phone: "There ISN'T a requirement that a person physically has to drive to the Lancaster Animal Care Center in order to express interest on an animal or request a temperament assessment. The care center does ’prefer' that the person requesting the temp test be local and have an 'interest' in adopting the dog, but they do not have to be present at the care center to make the request. If they REFUSE to request an evaluation, refuse to transfer you they are essentially REFUSING service. Get a name and ask to be transferred to a supervisor. If they tell you that "you must come in personally" or "you must commit to a dog prior to an evaluation", please advise them they are VIOLATING LACO's own policy and read to them what we posted above. ALWAYS NOTE A NAME, date & time who you SPOKE WITH. Feel free to message us with detailed info should you be refused service! If you request an evaluation and are told this is being submitted: STILL GET A NAME AND WRITE IT DOWN, TRY TO FOLLOW UP the next day to be sure your request was noted and is being processed! This shelter is a publicly funded County shelter with a high rate of 'strays' and 'owner turn ins' and therefore considered "high kill". According to the DACC's own stats Lancaster shelter is currently the 2nd highest kill shelter in LA County. If you are interested in any dogs we list, we urge you to immediately get in touch with the shelter for their adoption procedure. Adoption fees at this shelter are $120 or less. There might a $20 license fee for LACO residents in addition. All fees include vaccines, micro chip and spay/neuter and Rabies Certificate. Unaltered dogs are released after their spay/neuter, unless they get a waiver due to age or health. The Lancaster, CA shelter is located at 5210 W. Ave. I Lancaster, CA 93536 (661) 940-4191 Hours: Monday – Thursday: 12:00 PM – 7:00 PM Friday, Saturday, and Sunday: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM Closed Holidays Directions: Take the 14 Freeway and exit at Ave. I, Go 3 miles West to shelter. NOTE: We don't collect pledges or PM the people who pledge. We will hide pledges at our discretion. A rescue who saves an animal is responsible for collecting the pledges if they are deemed legal and reputable. We will gladly post a PayPal address or donation information if provided and help tagging pledgers. Pledges are for rescues, not for private adopters. If you are willing to adopt or have questions on a dog we post, please call the shelter instead of posting on the thread as we might not see all your comments.
